What happens when we connect DC supply to transformer is explained with circuit simulation in this video.
In this video, we will use a simulation to explore the impact of DC supply on transformers. We will also discuss the reasons why DC supply is not commonly used in transformers, and what happens if DC supply is given to a transformer.

Fantastic explanation sir. Please my question is, at what point in time do we need 1:1 transformer in power system?
@Muck-qy2oo
@Muck-qy2oo 4 месяца назад
In order to separate the load from the utility ground. Like this you can create an ungrounded circuit. This is either done to reduce the risk of electric shock or to avoid short circuiting measurement setups.

Sir, what is Concept of leakage flux if RYB OF 3Phase transfomer operate commonly at one phase means no phase difference in RYB

It was mentioned that due to the frequency, f = 0 for DC supply, hence the net impedance of the circuit becomes merely resistance, R. However, since f = 0, isn't that the capacitive reactance that is inversely proportionate to f would become infinite and the resultant impedance, Z would become infinite also? Appreciate if someone could shed some light...

You are right. The reason for higher current is the lack of back emf produced by the induction.
@mathai123a

Capacitive resistance comes not in series with the winding. It is always bw the winding and ground. So it can not be considered
@mathavan5919
@mathavan5919 25 дней назад
In a HVAC line,since there is only a resistance in the wire and there is no connection of capacitor and inductance,why your considering inductive reactance and capacitance?

i have a question why then are transformers used in amplifiers? if the circuit is in DC how does the transformer amplify the input to the speaker?

Sir is there any possibility that by using "variable DC supply" (i.e. Square Wave) as a source, the "transformer" can operate?

What will happen if we supply pulsating DC in primary of transformer? will bulb starts glowing ? As we are giving change in supply
@GauravJ

Yes. An output can be seen in that case.

@@GauravJI was wondering this too. I want to design a dc motor that basically uses transformers to wirelessly excite the rotor and rather than using ac current and putting rectifiers on the secondary for the rotor I'm thinking it would be better to use a pwm DC source connected to the primary
@sudheerreddy5175
@sudheerreddy5175 4 месяца назад
@@GauravJThat is what we call pulsating transformer in that case
@MohammadAsifAliBEE
@MohammadAsifAliBEE Год назад
Sir, First of all impedance is given by Z=R+j(Xl-Xc) not R+Xl+Xc(j denotes phasor and it is very important in AC quantities), and secondly the value of Xl i.e. leakage reactance is also very low, the transformer is designed such that it has less leakage flux so that the Voltage regulation value can be minimized. So, you cannot justify by saying that becuase in DC Xl=0 therefore current will increase, it is not the valid explanation. Explanation: Apply KVL in primary side u will get V=i(t)R+Ldi(t)/dt Where V is the supply voltage And L is the inductance of primary coil. Apply laplace and solve i(t) U will get i(t)=Vexp(-Rt/L) Now find flux, ¤=mmf/reluctance ¤=Ni(t)/R Therefore flux will come out to be decreasing exponential function of time. And eventually after 3 to 4 time constant flux will be equal to zero. Now apply Farady law and find induced emf in secondary. E2=N2 d¤/dt. Since flux is constant and it is equal to zero therefore induced emf E2=0 (short circuit, hence secondary side impedance is zero). Now refer the circuit to primary side u will get the following circuit elements: 1. Voltage source 2. Primary and secondary winding resistance. Rp and Rs 3. E2=0 therefore it will be replaced by short circuit wire. The impedance on secondary side becomes zero(because induced emf is zero) therefore by this logic u can say that current will increase drastically.
