In this video, we’re taking GarageBand for iOS for a final spin before Logic Pro for iPad comes out. GarageBand transformed the mobile music space and it is still one of the best mobile DAWs around.

i'm pretty heavily invested in NI plug-ins with LP for MacOS. I'm going to hold off on LP for iPadOS until I see how 3rd party plug-ins will be handled and if NI will add support for Komplete.

@@towjam2359 I hear that. I think AUv3s should be supported out the gate, but it might be a while for the other big plug-ins to move over. I'm hoping the Sampler can export EXS24 files like Logic Pro on macOS, but I kind of doubt that. It'll be interesting to see which features didn't make the cut.

Very cool tribute my friend. I'm still blown away by the sounds in GarageBand iOS, especially that piano. Rivals many very expensive third party options!

I used GarageBand on desktop for the longest time and I found the workflow in Logic to be very similar. Logic Pro on iPad has a little bit more of a learning curve.

Nice video. I've always liked using GarageBand on the iPad, but I do get lost trying to find some of the options when I haven't used it in awhile. A quick google search usually works. I think most people don't realize how much it can do. I'm really looking forward to Logic, although I'll have to wait a little longer. My iPad just misses the cutoff. I saw Costco has them all on sale now, except the pro, which is what I want. I hope you make some videos of Logic on the iPad.

Thanks! I was in the exact same boat. I actually got mine from Costco, haha. I opt-ed for the iPad Air even though Mac Rumors says to hold off on that model since a new one might be coming soon. Hopefully since it's M1 it'll stick around for a while. Hopefully some new devices drop with WWDC next month.

Great vid. GarageBand was the easiest to understand DAW i've ever encountered. (Before GarageBand on my iphone, I used 'Midisoft Studio 4' on an old Win98 computer)

Oooh that looks like straight up sheet music! My first computer DAW was Cakewalk. I agree, nothing compares to GarageBand in terms of ease of use.

@@mobypixel studio 4 is sheet music + ability to drop in wav files. Then there was also fruity loops which was (if I remember correctly) only sample based. And now in garage band we have so much: notes - instruments- plugins - effects, awesome stuff 🙂

Thanks, Jason! Man, we'll find out soon! I'm hoping the Sampler is fully featured and it'd be amazing if they brought some of those effects into AVFoundation for other apps to use.

I’m good with cubasis 3 and AUM underrated but never used Logic Pro so I’m intrigued also all these greats apps I collected as auv3’s on iPad work with Logic Pro idk 🤷‍♂️

My go-to for testing out AUv3s is still AUM. Jakob Haq said he is sticking with Cubasis. I think whichever workflow works best for you is the one to use. That's why I stuck with GarageBand on macOS for as long as I did.

@@SonicVibe Logic is like GarageBand on steroids. It has a very similar UI and workflow. But it has some key features that GB is missing like crossfades and the ability to comp takes on one track. It also comes with a ton more instruments and effects. I think the first month is free so it might be worth checking out just to see how you like it.

@@mobypixel ok will do cause the UI for GarageBand 🎸 I never got along with but cubasis 3 made sense right away and AUM is just fantastic but I’d say it’s not a usual daw format like gb or cubasis

What’s the difference between iPad Air and Pro?

In general, the iPad Pro is more powerful (and expensive) but this Air has an M1 chip so it should be supported for the next several years.

@@mobypixel My iPad is a 2016 model, so I’m deciding on which to choose, should I upgrade. I’m waiting on the arrival of a Roland Aerophone Go (digital saxophone,) so I’m not in a massive rush, as getting to know the instrument might be first up, and I can get around GarageBand pretty well for now. The other option could be to go MacBook and buy the Logic Pro for that.

MacRumors has a good roundup on when to buy devices. They actually didn’t recommend the Air since a new one is coming out but it was on sale. There might be more sales if new devices are dropped at WWDC in a couple of weeks. As for Mac or iPad it might just come down to personal preference. I’m still more productive in Logic on Mac but I live in front of my computer. buyersguide.macrumors.com/#ios
