During WW2 the Brits refused American military demands to introduce their segregation laws of American troops in the UK. It resulted in several conflicts including one where black GI's were shot and arrested by their own military. My mother in her 20's at the time danced with many black GI's, saying if they were willing to come all that way to help them defeat Hitler they would be treated with the same respect and gratitude shown to all soldiers. So while the upper echelons might have been bothered by this I doubt most Brits saw any problem with this event. I suspect the Queen was prouder of her turning the Commonwealth then to what it was at her death as much as anything she did as Queen.
