How many of the TLC elite just assume they will be bishops? Local GMC clergy will be trapped between an elite class of clergy and the insatiable demands of dying local churches.
I don't think this is actually true. TLC members largely aren't vying for the office. Lots of the are laity and cannot actually even realistically entertain that. And it is far from certain that GMC local churches will be generally characterized as dying. There isn't any data yet, but I have heard tons of anecdotes of local churches flourishing after leaving the UMC and joining the GMC. It is always good to be wary of the ways in which power structures become self-serving. However, it is also important to make sure one's assertions are tethered to reality.
@@plainspokenpod tethered to reality? Sure. Bound to false promises and exploited by a new denomination even if the exploitation is due to unexpected consequences. I understand the child like excitement and for the GMC. But I think it is very important to take seriously the power of sin, arrogance and greed, seeping into the GMC. How many presiding elders have had background checks? By the time 2026 comes around we will know the facts concerning GMC leadership and local church health. So what happens if a local church demands a change in pastoral leadership and gives the pastor 30 days to vacate?
