The Importance of Being Naked: Skin Cancer Check 

I was diagnosed on the Ides of March in 1988. The first excision was in an office, the second was performed by a plastic surgeon in an OR. When I asked why I had to have the follow-up surgery, my doctor said, "the survival rate's better." Sounded good to me. And I'm still here. I visit my dermatologist every 6 months. Thanks for spreading the word.

He looks like he's 18. I realize skin cancer is possible at any age but it would have made more sense to examine someone older, whose skin is more likely to be doing funky things.

There is a documentary about cancer cures called Cancer: The Forbidden Cures (by Massimo Mazzucco) (freely available on RU-vid too). Also, 5-year survival rate is not good enough, especially when those 5 years are lived between chemotherapies and their awful effects on our health.

I am very fair skinned. (Red Head) I KNOW the importance of sun-protection. My brother who is not a red head has had episodes of skin cancer. HOWEVER...... what is being shown here is NOT TYPICLE of an exam with a male patient and a female doctor. Most often she will invite a scribe ( which most often will be female) or you have a HIGH chance of a chaperone which means, you will be in your exam with not one, but 2 females viewing your naked body. Im sorry, but this is un-acceptable. (When would you ever see 2 males, in an exam with a female patient - for anything???? ) DOUBLE STANDARD. Yes.... men need the exam. However, men also DESERVES THE SAME RIGHT to dignity, and modesty as any other patient. IF you want to see more men being more serious, about getting checked, then START addressing this issue. Your brother, boyfriend, husband, father, uncle will AVOID this exam - if they have to endure being naked in this situation. YES - it does matter. And the medical field as a whole needs more training and sensitivity to the issue. - IT IS REAL.
