Thank you Ajanh for the beautiful talk It need to be repeat from time to time because we have new listeners every day The more you know about the Buddha the more you gonna trust what he teach , Find the right Sangria and the right Monk to listen because all Monk are not the same In Asia a lot of people come to Buddhism just simply about the belief that when they pray to t Buddha their praise will be listening and the Buddha can give it to them
Its the same here, initially people are under the most common misconception that the Buddha.. one of many Buddha's, was/ is a/the "God" I think Ajahn Brahmali should have more confidence with his knowledge base. I think he is correct on a number of points that he has raised. Firstly it's so sad for all of us, anyone trying to express our understanding of how beneficial the teachings are to others, especially doctors, school teachers, psychologists! The Ajahn did not fail, nor should he believe that, or allow himself to even contemplate that due to our strong desire to pass on these teachings so that they may be used to alleviate the suffering of others. The psychologist failed in his understanding, not the Ajahn. Many times non Buddhists skeptics, atheists or scientifically minded people will reject the root teacher because of their own fear, supistition and lack of understanding, they may also feel as though it simply will not work in an academic, business and or clinical environment. A good example is the one made about our own teachers in comparison to attitudes towards the Buddha. My personally favoured teacher is Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. Now if we may draw a comparison of the way many practitioners of Buddhism feel a closeness towards the Buddha, because of a more personal affiliation due to either.. place of birth, being part of a Sangha, especially for Monastics etc etc. the same may be said of a Teacher of TNH's magnitude. The Buddha would have lived through many rebellions, many disgusting and heartbreaking murders, sicknesses, violence and rape (we need look no further of what transpires in the areas that he traveled, taught and lived to this very day to imagine how horrible much of what took place there would have been like.) Now, trying to explain to somone who has never studied Buddhist teachings (Dharma) or lived through War, sickness or other violent trauma, what perhaps being of Vietnamese heritage or interacting with the true comfort, peace and understanding a Guru/Master like TNH can gift you in this place we know as our world, may be at times impossible. The difference is; We have a gratitude and a respect in understanding they do not have. Also they may feel they can not see through the mysticism or older erroneous beliefs of this system to see the worth of also recognising the Teacher. For Brahmali; Our concerns are valid. They miss out on a deeper understanding. Ajahn Brahmali Said Something along the lines of the deeper teachings of the mind, when they are really the deeper teachings of the heart, unfortunately you can't always give that to somone, or make them understand no matter how much we try. I think he is also right in saying although our mentalities have changed vastly over the centuries, human nature has not. It is also very important to note, that; as for an argument FOR reincarnation, if The Buddha could give us all of these other incredible insights into the nature of the mind, and ultimately our reality, why not pay as much attention to the idea of a recycling of consciousness (re-in-carnation) as to the other claims and teachings within the Buddha's cannon that are being recognised in our modern world. We have this "problem" for want of a better term.. that we are not supposed to have proofs of this, as this would be aVERY dangerous world if we did. Like; Can you imagine knowing where Hitler was reborn? Or Mao or Starlin! Trump or Putin? 😂😂😂 Anyway Great Talk! As for the Questions.. Sometimes People Already Know The Answers, And Monks Like Brahmali Can Pick This Up And Do Not Wish To Then Say Something Wrong To The Enquirer Or State The Question Was To Simple. The First Two Ladies Had The Answer In The Second Part Of There Question. Sometimes They just Need Confirmation. Sister Chan Khong Knew This When She Met Thich Nhat Hanh, And He Knew The Answer She Sort. She Said.. And I Knew I Had Found A Teacher. Don't Be Superstitious Whilst Traveling, Those Indian Teachers Can Be Very Tricky. 😂 I hope Ajahn Brahmali Has An Amazing Time, He Won't Find The Buddha Of Course! He Will Walk Back In Through The Doors Of BSWA and Realise The Buddha Was There All Along. 😊 Our Buddha Nature Never Leaves, We Just Have It Hidden Sometimes. 🌻🙏🌷🙏🌷🙏🌻
@@LeePearce-wq6pv OK my friend , your comment is very long to read and understand I was so thrilled to see the Buddha teaching is reaching out to the West and Ajahn Brahamali and many others are wondering in their own way Buddhism belong to the East long long time ago so yo should not compare. The Buddha said his teaching only be understand to whoever think it make sense ok , you don't have to worry about everybody , by the way let focus on ourself and our family first
It is good enough for me to follow the teachings of a virtuous man who showed the way to live a noble and spiritual life. And one able to formulate a religion and code of ethics that is universal and valid regardless of race, culture, creed or gender. Thus it is said "if you desire to see the most noble of mankind, look at the king in beggar's clothing; it is he whose sanctity is great among men".
The sutta about the Buddha's weight loss diet advice is SN 3.13, the Bucket of Rice or Donapaka Sutta. The verse that was spoken was: "When a man is always mindful, knowing moderation in eating, his discomfort fades, and he ages slowly, taking care of his life."
I really enjoyed this talk on humanizing the Buddha. Any thoughts on changing the word mendicate, bhikkhu, etc. with my own name when reading the suttas? As if the Buddha was talking directly towards me.
You can contact them via emailing their website, or interact with others via the live chat/streaming function if you go online at the right hour when the talks are taking place. 😊
I also just leave messages here, they are very busy but usually somone from BSWA, somone Buddhist or somone random that may need to see what you write or has the same question will read it. 😊
