CRASH BANG WALLOP, WHAT A VIDEO! Oh, I know it’s too long for anyone to watch, so I’ve set chapters for you to get to the goodies. Click the Ground Zero link if you just wanna see an angry lady give us what-for. As for why the what-for is landing at our door, watch the preamble for the full story as that will set your exasperation accordingly for when it later kicks off. Rather unusually, I have some rules below for commenting on this one, so please adhere before writing on here or you may find your words disappear!
01:52 Timeline start
07:48 Inspection & testing
09:22 It starts to get a bit odd…
12:34 Let’s recap!
13:22 THAT phone call & the events of Tuesday 7th March
25:50 A vehicular analogy
27:51 Wednesday 8th March
29:45 Thursday 9th March - SNOW DAY!!
42:37 Friday’s Jeckyll & Hyde show
44:14 You have got to be f@@king kidding me!
49:23 Option 1, option 2… or option… uh… 3?
50:25 Descent into madness
57:44 And then this happened…
01:01:11 Okay, now we’re curious…
01:03:02 Ride-along!
01:05:27 Back into the lion’s den…
01:08:34 Wait… what??!
01:10:09 Ground Zero - VOLUME WARNING FROM THIS POINT!
01:22:44 It’s da law!
01:29:03 Endgame & start of annotated footage
01:37:05 You’re fa’ckin nicked mate!
01:37:41 To be fair, Nuneaton is a toilet
01:38:06 She fought the law… and the law won
01:41:38 Have you humiliated me enough? [Well, there’s this thing called the internet]
01:50:39 All it ever needed was a woman’s touch
01:52:31 Epilogue
01:54:13 Coffee & cigars
Comment rules:
Please refrain from misogynistic remarks regarding the lady herself. I’ve made a few jibes in the vid born out of the exasperation I’ve felt in dealing with her, so nothing else needs adding to put the boot in. Let’s assume she’ll see this; she’ll be upset by it, and nobody need twist the knife further with unkind remarks. Comment on the attitude she presented, but no cheap shots about physical appearance or such.
If you’re a local, you may recognise the lady, street or police officers. That doesn’t mean y’ can pop on to broadcast names/addresses like a smug prick. It’s taken hours to excise identifiable information and I don’t want that work undone by a careless commentor. Such will be removed and, if repeated, offenders will be blocked from commenting on all my videos forever.
Refrain from remarks such as “You should have fisted her bucket”, or “equality means you oughta have chinned her”. I never felt threatened so there was no need for me to strike or mistreat her; I merely wanted to get my gear so we could escape. If there was a fear of threat, I perhaps would’ve acted more offensively as a defence.
Finally, perhaps you’re a Jeremy Corbyn voting, Radio6 listening, guitar-playing hipster ponce now crying over your real ale because you feel everyone is to blame except the lady doing all the shouting & scratching, so now you want to have a pop at the cops for being fascist bastards?
Personally, I believe the coppers showed a lot of patience, especially Officer 2. As for a misunderstanding on my part about what Karen was expecting of us, it should be clear to anyone who watched the whole video that she simply doesn’t listen or absorb information. Was I upfront and clear with her? Yes. Do I feel bad for her? Yes. Did I do my best for her? Yes. Should I take everything she throws at me because she seems to have some issues that were never declared to us? No.
I may not have clocked it at first, but this lass has a problem with communication. Still, I can only interact with my fellow humans on the (hopefully rational) level I myself operate at during my few sober hours. If I encounter someone who’s on a different mental plane, I can’t guarantee things won’t go awry. Yes, she has problems, but so do all the rest of us, and I find running the business difficult & stressful enough without dealing with someone whose expectations are so far removed from all our written & verbal discussions.
Officer 1 reviewed the Camera 1 footage so I guess Kaz was right to say he hadn’t seen everything as Nige had moved outside, but she has a penchant for exaggeration: I never put my knee to her chest or assaulted her. I’ve blown up the bodycam shot where Nige steps out to show that.
PowerDirector doesn’t do a top job blurring multiple targets, so block-blurs applied manually are often employed which obscure elements they didn’t need to. A black bar is also used to cover identifying details. It’s taken days of frame-by-frame editing to put this smegger together.
The raw footage is available upon request to the cops, Karen or any legal representation she appoints, but nobody else. I’ve nothing to hide but sharing it unedited wouldn’t be fair for all involved. I’ve tried to keep the footage intact, except for spooling through recanting the story twice to the Police which I whizzed over as you’ve been given the full dope and don’t need to hear it again.

Working in social housing, we often visit shady addresses where we're expecting a bit of bother. We aren't armed with cameras though. Various things we'd do including parking where the van can move away easily and quickly. Always have an available exit, don't allow the tenant to lock doors. If it's about to get confrontational (even just giving bad news), make sure you're on the exit side of the person with your tools if you can. Travel light. Once you're out, go to the van and call police. Don't engage with the person again until police come. Drive around the corner if needed until police arrive. Just a few techniques were given. I wouldn't have engaged physically with the woman, just phone the police from inside the house. I hope she gets the help she needs, she's clearly unstable and the footage of her arrest was hard to watch. Goodness knows what her neighbours think. If she'd been carted off I'd have been tempted to knock on next door and ask if they know anything about her.

I agree; they turned up when David needed them to, and dealt with the problem fairly, giving both parties the oppotunity to have their say. Luckily David had had the foresight to arrive wearing cameras, so he had evidence to back up his version of events. The fact that she let the item of property she had confiscated be clearly seen on her didn't give the police much choice about arresting her and taking her away if she didn't return it. None of this "It's a civil matter" nonsense when it is clearly theft. Well done to Warwickshire Police.

I bet that got some curtains twitching! As someone who's worked in mental health, especially in relation to learning disabilities, go for pressing charges every time. I remember going to a talk by one of Ashworth's top psychiatrists. He argued the more we say "They can’t help it" they more we condone their behaviour and allow it to intensify to the detriment of themselves, and just as importantly, others. I wrote this comment before I saw Tim's. You'll find most people in the will feel the same as we often see the results of no culpability. I once went on a convention and one of the speakers was one of the top psychiatrists from Ashworth. He argued that by metaphorically patting people on the head and saying: "They can't help it", we are denying them the fundamental human right of consequences to their behaviour.

I'm sure you learned a lesson on what to do and not to do in the unlikely situation of something like this happening again in the future. If she does contact you again, call the police and see whether it's possible to get a restraining order. And you missed a bleep when you said her name. It's very reasonable of you to hide her identity as there are too many loons on the internet.

People like her think in terms of a continual negotiation. That shows very clearly in the police interaction where, despite having been given a very generous option, she only used it to try and get a number of unrelated and silly concessions. A form of control over the attending police officers. She couldn’t help herself. Similarly presenting the stolen widget was effectively impossible for her. In the same sense that a neurotypical person would not want to do themselves physical harm I’m not an expert in this field but suspect she is a narcissist. In the full clinical sense. Her helpless pleading noises almost certainly simply a ploy and a fairly effective one. It’s sad but people like her will have left a trail of emotional damage in their wake since their early years. So they don’t deserve the degree of latitude they are frequently given. Imagine what the neighbours are or were having to go through.

Holy crap David, I cannot believe what happened. In America, I would have arrested her for the assault regardless of your desire to not file a complaint. Mostly, I feel it would give the system a chance to see if she is on medication or exactly what is going on. Of course, this only works if the system itself will check rather than just release her. I would imagine that would be the same in the UK. She could just be at the end of her rope, or feels that the world is ganging up on her, but I think the cops (if they have a check in place to find out about medication or some other issue) could better serve her by arresting her. It would cause a arrest record, but perhaps she could get some help. I dealt with this guy that had incredible strength and would blow up from time to time. Thankfully, our jail had a really good record of asking about medication or mental diagnosis so he finally got the help he needed.

Yes, I thought I was doing her a favour by bugging out without pressing charges, but a trip to the nick might have been beneficial for her in the long run. I expected her to perhaps be problematic which is why I recorded our visit, but I didn't foresee a police officer would be asking me to make a decision on whether I wanted her arrested half an hour after we arrived. I also don't know what happened after we left. We had a troublesome customer at my previous firm some years ago, absolute nutjob doing up a reasonably average house, not on a particularly high budget, but she was treating the job like a full refurb of Buckingham Palace. Had the builders putting up walls and then knocking them down because she wanted to move it by 4 inches and all sorts. She was determined to live in her construction site over Christmas and New Year so we went along to fit the board and we had a big box of 'pre second-fix get some power on' bits so the boss explained that we'd be able to fit the CU and get a couple of circuits going, I proceeded with Wagoing/blanking plating a few socket and switch points and fitting some lovely paint splattered Hager accessories. She comes back just as we're doing some testing and getting ready to leave and starts ranting about how she's being sold clearly second hand tat when she wanted brushed steel sockets. My boss explained again the agreed upon 20% temporary second-fix to get 3-4 circuits going, and she just went off on one about how shes had it with con men thinking they can scam her. Needless to say the CU, our precious Wagos, and paint splattered accessories came back out pretty quickly, and unfortunately we lost the downlight plans. It gets better, the plumber also foolishly doing this whackjob a favour, replaces the boiler that has catastrophically shat itself to get her by on the old heating/hot water system, he put it back in the same place the last one had sat for 30-40 years and said to her that when he rips out the old system to get the new heating system commissioned the boiler will move to an adjacent wall so the flue can vent toward the back garden as it currently vented into a sheltered walkway down the side of the house. He considered that as it had been like it with a far more polluting boiler for so long, what harm could a month with a new boiler do, plus the alleyway was open both ends with no obstructions. Turns out the harm that can be done was that this woman reported him to Oftec for installing the boiler in a dangerous position. Luckily for him the inspector that went to check the installation very quickly gathered that she was batshit insane and just said to him to try to avoid doing people favours in the future 😂

Amazing. She is very clearly disturbed and likely a complete nightmare to live next to. You both handled yourself very well. The only mistake you made was going back, or even giving her the time of day to respond to any of her unhinged communications after the first phone call. I mean, are your "Fuck off"s really that empty? Curiosity got the better of you, and you should have left it well alone. Nevermind, you know enough now to ghost the next Bedlam escapee you come across. All joking aside, this is sad more than anything else. Sad that she is in such a state, and sad that you or any trades or service person has to put up with being treated like this. As for filing a complaint, under most circumstances where someone gets violent or steals your equipment, I'd agree that you should press charges. However, this woman is simply ill, and there is no help to be found in jail for issues like hers. I worked in the probation services for years, and I am very sad to say there is literally nothing available to help people who just need access to support and medication. Putting them in the criminal system only makes their life problems, and therefor mental conditions worse. The police were excellent here, might even be a masterclass, but they only took this line of action because they know the systems failures to help people like this to be true, and that is why they preferred to handle this without a completed arrest even after she attacked them. Last comment: I really think you did the right thing by making this video. Apart from it being cathartic for you to get the whole thing off your chest and out of your system, it serves as the warning to other tradees to look out for this behaviour in their own clients, and how to handle themselves professionally. OK, you could have done things differently if you'd know to or had any idea what she was capable of, but honestly, you both did a great job and most importantly, covered your asses.

A couple thoughts, first, glad this wasn’t in the US. As much as I support firearm ownership, a person like this could have obtained a gun and things could have ended differently. Second, I would have pressed charges and then let the courts decide if she should be evaluated by mental health professionals. Charges can be dropped but at least you have more “ammo” if she then tried to sue you or harm your business.

This poor woman’s situation is very sad. She obviously needs Professional help bless her. I would say it’s every contractors worse nightmare but who would ever think it would happen in the first place. I think you both handled it as best anyone could, given the impossible situation. Nigel, your a big softy hearted mate lol.

She needs some professional help. Your a top bloke Dave, who lifts the spirits of many on here through your wit and talent. Keep up the great work, you and Nigel are a Godsend to the rest of us when we have a shit day at work and need cheering up, both of you have a pint on me 🍻

I love a massive length, David and Nigel, you have absolutely satisfied me.. Silliness aside, one of the best videos I’ve watched- you covered EVERYTHING no leave no doubt in anyone’s mind exactly how it all played out. If you watered or chopped it down, you’d just get knobheads in the comments saying trash like ‘ahhhh but what happened before you started recording..’ etc. She is very clearly a troubled human and it quickly went from hilarious to… well ‘jeeeesus Christ’ quite rapidly. I’m so thankful you had the nouse to ‘double camera’- whilst the warts and all of it wasn’t an easy watch at time, you could show the police exactly how it went down. I have subscribed and watched you for blummin ages, and have got so much respect for you both.. this absolutely showed what decent, caring and thoughtful humans you are.. Thanks for the shoutout too . Big love Kip Hakes offa the internet

I don't think "bless her" is appropriate. She is a violent, manipulative narcissist. And I wonder how stressful this situation was for her, given that her house was clearly not remotely sorted and still empty after a month. She'd rather use it as an excuse to pester and manipulate people. I've known people like her. The way she speaks, the way she carries herself. She thinks she's the big cheese in the neighbourhood - you can bet that she makes her neighbour's lives a misery.

I was just about to qualify as a sparky. I had the multifunction tester, a screwdriver and a Fluke NCV tester. Unfortunately, the electrical wholesaler had no Tasers in stock so after having watched this, I gave it all back and now I'm back down the Job Centre .... Seriously though, a few of my humble observations. I had no intention of watching 2 hours but I watched every minute. It was even more gripping than the last episode of Happy Valley. Thanks for taking the time to produce this video. I fully understand the effort and emotional stress you must have endured. Anyone having watched your channel for as long as me will already know you are a man of the highest integrity and fairness and so we didn't need that to be proved. But needless to say, you explained and documented this unfortunate situation impeccably. I believe you have handled it in the best possible way you could, especially your restraint having been physically assaulted. The real heroes are obviously Nigel and the Police. We only usually see the comic Nigel but in the final scenes here, we see the real man. He handled every aspect of this in an exemplary manner. Real credit to him. In troubled times for the police in general, this showed what is brilliant about most of the police in this country, who face dangers and very difficult situations day in day out. I really feel for 'Karen'. A confused and troubled soul. Thanks again for taking the time to produce this David.

"With respect Dave, I hope you have a good evening." Wow that was a difficult watch but I think you dealt with it as best as you could. She's clearly not well and hopefully the police will be able to get her the help she needs. I commend you for recording it Dave, and I just worry about other tradespeople who may be in similar situations.

Great stuff, the best episode of The Twilight Zone for ages and I’m still only 16 and a bit minutes in! It just gets better, this person’s linguistic skills pare uncannily like the mangled English one gets from scam calls from the Indian sub continent. I think I’d have asked them to bang her up in the first instance and then sued the poor silly person.

Nightmare situation , I don't feel sorry for her though . Met women like this before , one of which broke my nose . She is manipulative and if it wasn't for the cameras you both would have been arrested . Lone female , two grown blokes trust me you would end up being arrested . She played the female card and the crying is all fake . She will do this again . Anyway least you got out alive and not been taken hostage .

She should have been arrested within a few minutes and carted off in a van. Its ridiculous that this went on as long as it did. Irrespective of what David or Nigel wanted in respect of pressing charges - which isnt really thing in the UK. Shes committed offences , the cops are aware - arrest her. All the bargaining with her, waste of time. Besides, its clear she needs mental help and to de-arrest her and thrn leave her alone isnt really what was needed. I realise the futility of arresting someone in this situation, but its a means to an end.....and that end should be reached far more quickly. This isnt a criticism of David or Nigel - far from it. You were both exemplary. But from the polices point of view, they've left themselves wide open to future criticism should ol-Karen decide to escalate this, or repeat it with some other unsuspecting person. In a foot note - i doubt plasterers, brickes or chipies would show any where near the restraint u guys did.

Couldn't agree more. She certainly needs sectioning. David and Nigel could have easily suffered far more serious injuries if a weapon had been to hand at close quarters in an enclosed space. Absolutely zero tolerance for abuse or assault of tradesmen going about their lawful daily business. This kind of thing should *never* be tolerated. Completely crossed the line imo.

I see what you're saying Billy and it's a good point. Where does authority draw the line between talking down a situation and bundling the accused into the back of a van? I guess in this case nothing more pressing was occurring that afternoon, but things may have been different on another day?
@billyt9921

There are several reasons to arrest someone - once an offence is established or suspected. PACE outlines what makes an arrest necessary - offences can be dealt with without an arrest, provided its appropriate. But, when cops do arrest someone, it has to be 'necessary'. One such necessity is to protect a vulnerable person from harm. The cops clearly had grounds to arrest her, and given all the video footage - yours and there's, I'm amazed they didn't just 'do it by the book' - lock her up for assault- the arrest being necessary to protect a vulnerable person and the ball is rolling. Just surprised really. Arresting her and going through the rigmarole was probably the safest bet for them and her. Anyway, it's a moot point now. Well done again to you and Nigel - you showed an awful lot of patience, compassion and restraint.

@@billyt9921 They may have still undertaken some action after we left. Between the five of them, they might have decided on a course of action other than de-arresting her and pootling off to the next call; I've no way of knowing.

I strongly suspect she’s been in handcuffs and then de-arrested at times in the past. Wasn’t her first rodeo.
