Yea watching it is fun, executing it yourself is a bit of a pain. Ultimate cheeze: Cap the british, at the peace conference leave them their fleet and ONLY northern england. Then declare on them again, there is only 1 port where the Hood can hide...
@@F1HunterJAN1I remember getting this as the Netherlands on accident. Thing is I didn't fight them at all naval wise I just invaded their mainland with cheese and annexed with the old no navy steal conference style
3:56 Going by the game program files, yep, it is weighted depending on your size army, the AI chance on the decisions starts on both at 50, but depending on your strength it could go from 50% to 66% to 83% to then the 100% Btw, if you are planning on doing the funny holy roman empire, either delete your units before asking for the kaiser or you can just keep trying to load the save before the focus complete
I remember I got the achievement accidentally too, I somehow was naval bombing the mediterranean without even noticing and sunk the Hood, it was around 1942 I think.
Btw if anyone wants the "why die for danzig" all you have to do is get max collaboration on France, then once you capitulate them set up the collab government and for some reason the game will still give you the achievement.
I got that achievement by complete accident. Britain and france went fascist and poland just gave up danzig. it is to this day, the only achievement i’ve ever gotten.
I literally did a normal Germany run trying to get the true blitzkrieg achievement (or whatever it's called) and got the why die for Danzig achievement when I did Vichy.
11:52 TBH sinking the Warspite is actually more impressive than sinking the Hood, given that that ship somewhat uniquely managed to have plot armour IRL!
The hunt for the Hood was just glorious! Btw 'Shaken, not stirred' doesn't fire in the current version, because PDX... You have to roll back the game version to get it. Also your first coup was perfectly fine and would have gotten you the achievement, you just didin't have Danzig at that point :-)
I like the idea that the entire German military is dedicated to hunting down a single battlecruiser because it has a funny crown on it and a gold outline
Imagine when British intelligence at Bletchley Park found out Germany has in fact zero interest in winning this war and really just wants to sink one battlecruiser and be done with it
I love how he just pretty much gave up on the game and started playing “Where’s Hoodo” like it was a cross between wackamole, where’s woldo and geoguesser
In case anyone doesn’t know, you can go into your save files for hoi4, copy/paste the save file in a different folder, and you can use that as a “checkpoint” that you can copy/paste back into the hoi4 save files if you don’t want to do a full game restart on something. It doesn’t affect achievements and I’ve used it a few times, mostly in eu4 and ck2/ck3, but it can be useful in hoi as well
I had the "Why die for Danzig" achievement by accident when I created Vichy France after I conquered Poland but was still at war with the gov in exile. La Résistance DLC was turned off.
On the "Why die for Danzig" I accidentally managed to cheese it, after you beat the allies puppet France and Vichy will annex into them automatically and you get the achievement
I remember when i sunk the hood. An achievement popped up and i was like," ...well that was random." Since I was doing what everyone else does in the British Channel
My favorite HoI4 story is when, as the Kaiser, I got "Why Die For Danzig?" After peacefully getting Danzig and the British Empire under Mosley turned France Fascist in a completely unrelated war to me while I was fighting the Soviets. I was incredibly confused
Finding the Hood is a ridiculous task. I can't even remember where it was hiding when I finally got that achievement. But I kept engaging it over and over again and it would slip away each time and move location. Almost as if the AI knew I was hunting for it.
Actually, organizing a coup in France to get that acheesment works, did it myself 2 weeks ago. Also, the achievment doesn't require to not go to war with Poland
You having a hard time finding and destroying the HMS Hood is funny to me because I accidentally sunk the hood with some shitty naval bombers as Sweden-unified Scandinavia back in like 2021, because it was out on patrol in the North Sea for some unknown reason. But it DID also take until 1945, so there's that too lmao.
I remember when I sank the hood. Built a straight up better nave with the Bismarck in it, and patrolled the seas around Britain. Caught it in a storm, so the British carriers couldn't do anything, and the Super Heavy Battleship Bismarck took them all out. Beautiful.
a much easier way to get the why die for danzig achievement is to play like normal but get a full collab on france. You just invade poland and france like normal but as soon as france capitulates you have an option to establish a collaboration government in france, which qualifies for the achievement.
I got the Why die for Danzig achievement without meaning to. I declared on Poland on and it dragged the rest of the allies in. After the war, I puppeted France and annexed all of Poland and it gave it to me. Since I never technically delta red war on France, it still counted.
I just randomly got that "Why die for Danzig" achievement when invading Poland as Germany. Its literally my first achievement in Hoi4 and I have no idea how it happened, certainly didnt play for it or knew how the coup and popularity mechanics even worked. Definitely was on historical too...
Something similar happened to me as I completed the focus "Danzig for Garante". That randomly gave me the achievement even tho France was communist (I was playing as the Kaiser"
Got "why die for danzig" achievment 3 days ago in a really wierd/bugged way. In 1936 I took Netherlands, then immideatly justified on Brittish Malaya, going at war with UK early. did a Sealion, then waited in Scotland before taking Checzoslovakia. Unfortunately, Czechs refused giving me Sudetland and joined Allies. Then Poland also refused after "Danzig or war". I did no focuses that give you wargoals on Benelux and France, but France joined Allies anyways through event. So I took Paris, established Vichy France, finally took Glazgo (which made UK capitulate), proceeded peace conference and got an achievement. Why the hell establishing Vichy triggered this achievment - idk, but now I have it, LOL. Maybe it only checks for wargoals, because i did not had war goal on France, I have no idea, was really confused
I got the 'Why die for Danzig?' as monarchist Germany. Turned France fascist using spies then did the civil war and got the monarchist achievements in the same run.
Yo isp you said that you weren’t sure if the Netherlands would reject giving back Willy but they will always give him back if you have more divisions than them.
IIRC the chance the netherlands decline to return Wilhelm II is influenced by your army size compared to theirs. So if you just keep building your army and place it on their border they shoudl say "Yes" most of the times.
If you have more than one PC, a video where you control the entire Axis (playing Germany, Italy, and Japan simultaneously in the same game, like a multiplayer game where it's just you) would be unique and pretty chaotic. Managing seven fronts at once, keeping track of all those focuses and research, and being able to seamlessly integrate the production and balance of military forces of each into one superpower would be awesome to see. It also sounds like a frustrating ball ache, so right up your alley, ISP!!!
I got the danzig in the weirdest way ever. I managed to stage a coup and the french fascists happened to pop up along the maginot. I sent expeditonary forces but that went no where but somehow the war started (It might've been cause of Italy or the Danzig focus) and I was allowed to sent my full army to fascist france. I crushed the french and then went back and did the same for Poland and despite having gone to war with both of them I still got it.
To get their Pride of the Fleet sunk, can't you just cap the Brits, leave one territory and only that one boat for them, and then just use their entire fleet to destroy its one single boat? I feel like that would be considerably easier than chasing it around the world haha
