Pretty crazy how all the older cops _(who've been there for years),_ were able to be talked out of trusting their gut-instinct, doing a little bit more thorough investigation of him or even just feeling him out a bit more, *let him go;* but the younger kid, *( **27:28** - who'd only been there for merely SIX WEEKS!!),* did everything the right way, even chasing him down to get him. He was _finally_ taken back to USP Florence High. *_THAT_* was when he claimed that he'd finally had enough of trying to escape (yeah, right; ok...👎🏽). Those people that have started petitions to set him free 29:05 , seem to have forgotten that he committed 1st degree Murder and Attempted Murder, plus 3 escapes (he is being romanticized and is manipulating his "fans" thru his story. HE SHOULD NOT BE FREE.

The quote at the end about how much respect he has for the staff is what really scares me. I can absolutely imagine that he has nowhere near as much compassion for those men as he states, and that that is used as nothing more than a method to appear to the public as a person that he is not.

That was super duper good really great and interesting story and you're right it should be a movie. What a crazy set of events. I'd say in addition to his Charisma and his Gift of Gab and gregarious nature I would say you got to include that he was also probably one of the luckiest people on the planet. There's plenty of people with the Gift of Gab that are personable that could not have been able to continually evade being caught in the scenario he was in. He does seem very likable even not knowing him and just from this video. I can see how he was able to do a lot of what he did. He's also very smart I would be shocked if his IQ wasn't in the 135 to 145 range.

Andy! Thanks for this riveting account of a unique case. It's a real bummer he killed that dude. But it shouldn't stop people from learning the lessons. The big take away for me is in watching that run in with the cop. Nevermind him giving two different names, the dude says he's running 12 MILES A DAY and the display on the screen said 113 and then 114 F. RIDICULITIS! TM This has be dying. He is so unbelievably calm that he says essentially THE MOST absurd thing, gives two different names and is literally making haste along the railroad track at high noon in an oven. Never underestimate the power of how people perceive you. I'm curious as hell what he would say about that day and about how he achieves absolute zen-mode in the most nerve-wracking circumstances! He's a real one.

Very interesting story, but, considering Richard was a MURDERER, I'm kind of disappointed that you used the word "unfortunately" a few times when you referred to him getting caught. I REALLY wish you would've clarified that with, "unfortunately for HIM", as I would consider everyone ELSE on the LUCKY side when he got caught and sent back to prison.

Agree he maybe able to smooth his way with people even suspicious cops but he still tried murdering two people we know of and succeeded murdering one.
