Chavie and Chaim Bruk are the archetypes of Chabad shluchim. They live in Montana, welcoming Jews of all backgrounds into their Bozeman home, featuring home-cooked meals, inspiring singing, and deep spiritual discussions. Doctors, ranchers, and professionals from Bozeman, Missoula, Kalispell, and Billings are connecting to their heritage because of the Bruks’ efforts and many miles on the remote highways of the nation’s fourth-largest state. As they have grown their family of five children, they have become forceful advocates for adoption in the Orthodox world.

This is an amazing interview.I am in awe of this stellar couple and their courage and positive attitudes throughout all their trials and tribulations. Ps.Their mention of the 12 year old boy in Montana who agreed to have a bris brought tears to my eyes.I hope he's ok and knows people across the globe admire his brave choice.

Talking about being in a remote situation and being Mesirus Nefesh for Mikvah and not getting any "payback" is something I also struggled with. We built the first mikvah in Northern New Mexico and before that I used freezing lakes, rivers and even the Mikvah 90 miles away that people would forget to warm the water etc. I was the Mikvah Lady when we were able to build the mikvah which was built "for me" before the rest of the ladies used it-and popped out babies as he said. What they are saying is really giving me chizuk. Life has been good-and I'm 71 so I've made peace with how life has evolved and it isn't over.

Such incredible people! My rabbis wife was the head midwife of shaare tzedek in Israel, they never we're blessed with their own babies but she brought more than 30000 babies to the world.. they asked her how she did it! And she said there is plenty of love to give, it doesn't have to be only to our own! I am inspired by this couple! Wao! It is so brave and such a strong choice and effort not only at the adoption but forever incredible people!

Wow, so much hashgacha protis in this story for me. Just this week I connected with a professor in Bozeman with an Irish ☘️ name. I was researching something unrelated to anything Jewish. Lo and behold this person was not only Jewish but wrote a scholarly book about the kinship between Latino and Jewish communities! The next day my research led me to connect to a Librarian in San Antonio TX who has reason to believe he’s a descendant of Conversos. Now THIS VIDEO shows up on my algorithm. HaShem IS the algorithm. Amazing!!!

This episode was definitely an outlier and a badly needed one. Adoption by this Rabbi and Rebbetzin is important to other Jews who want to adopt but it also sheds light on how Israel has ALWAYS adopted and received the non-Jew like Abraham did and so did Israel when they left Mitzraim. ❤

Rabbi & Mrs. Bruk, so glad to hear your story! This topic of adoption in the frum community was on my mind just today over Shabbat! I hope more couples will consider growing their families through adoption and gain chizuk and inspiration from your example. Prior to becoming Jewish, I was a foster parent for many years and have one adopted child. B’ezrat Hashem we can someday connect. Maybe next time you’re in Denver!

May G-d bless Rabbi and Rebbitzen Bruks and their family. This was a very interesting, productive conversation, speaking openly about adoption in the Orthodox Jewish community. Adoption in our community has been around for many years, just not so common or talked about. I am originally Jewish, happily adopted into an Orthodox Jewish family from foster care. It sounds like the Bruks were united with children who really needed loving, stable parents rather than purchased babies from an agency. In the absence of Roe v. Wade, it's difficult to be totally certain that some birth parents aren't being coerced to give up their babies, especially if the parents are very young, single, and/or poor like in the post war baby scoop era. It will be very helpful for their children, when they see this video, that Rabbi and Rebbitzen Bruks emphasized that their children are not second best to biological children. It seems like they really did the emotional work involved so that their children aren't blank slate replacements for biological offspring. All parents must be fierce advocates for their children and if a child asks for privacy of their circumstances then it must be honored. The parents decision to forgo their own privacy does not trump the child's request for privacy. Interviews can still be done leaving out that child's information. Also, using the word "situation" as in "there's a situation" may make the children feel shame when they eventually watch this podcast. It's beautiful that Rabbi and Rebbitzen Bruks will support their childrens exploration of their biological identity to fully understand themselves, when the right time presents❤. Most, if not all the children, will want to know, at some point, whether at age 18 or as late as age 50, what happened to them, who they look like, where certain character traits come from, medical history, whether they have biological siblings and their biological family history. Rabbi and Rebbitzen Bruks authentic relationship with their children will only grow closer and stronger from their unconditional love and genuine support as their children reconcile their identities. May they be זוכה to grow resilient, kind, happy, strong, self reliant children in a בית נאמן בישראל. מי כעמך ישראל❣

I don't think it matters if you have a special situation, it is NEVER okay to speak so harshly against rabbanim. I feel very bad that they have a hard time getting guidance for this but it doesn't mean that all the details have to be publicized if they will talking about how 'ignorant' rabbanim are the whole time. Of course there are unique situations and it is always possible that a rav won't know what to do. Does that make it okay to publicly announce it and repeat it again and again? This entire interview could have been beautifully presented without any of that.
@Tali5899
@Tali5899 Год назад
I actually thought they were really diplomatic and tactful about that little issue.Maybe you haven't had the good luck to be desperately in need of guidance yet the rabbonim you approach are ignorant of how to help you.Wellllll lucky you, but maybe open your eyes to the plight of so many others not blessed as you are.Mayvyour life be full of all you desire and may you always be able to keep up with the Jones's so you don't feel different or be left floundering alone.
