A very nice explanation and examples. What I think you didn't mention about the Ward-Leonard system is how it actually achieves speed control. The AC motor is a 3-phase motor, so rotates at a constant RPM. That means the generator also rotates at a constant RPM. So how can a constant RPM generator generate different voltages to control the speed of the drive motor? The answer is that the voltage generated depends on the strength of the field winding in the generator, and there are special controls to adjust that to produce the desired output voltage, or really the desired drive motor output speed, since the speed of a DC motor is not a linear function of voltage.

Easier to just call it a motor-generator. 🤣 Messed with a few over the years, the coolest being a Martin B-26 gun turret which had its motor generators mounted on the actual rotating assembly to both convert power and act as a capacitor during extreme movements or power draws.

Ein anderer spannender Sessellift ist jener am Horneggli in Schönried: Kuppelbar, Haubensessel, Baujahr 1984. Wird aber in den nächsten Jahren ersetzt. Und dieses Video hier ist ebenfalls sehr spannend, ich kann mich noch nicht entscheiden ob ich Englisch oder Walliserdeutsch besser verstehe

That Bartholet lift looks interesting compared to the Leitner-Poma and Doppelmayr-Garaventa lifts I am familiar with. Sadly, none have been built in North America, Australia or NZ, so I will have to go to Europe in winter if I want to see one.
