Homeplace Plantation is on the National Historic register and is a designated National historic landmark built between 1787-1791. The first floor is built out of stuccoed brick along with the pillars that support the second level of the gallery. The upper gallery is built out of cypress, as are the second-floor walls, floors, and ceilings. The timbers used in the walls have been chinked with clay, Spanish moss and horse hair. This technique is actually called bousillage, which was commonly used by French colonial settlers. The roof was ripped off after Hurricane Ida last year sadly and the owners have been slowly trying too make repairs. Full history in my pinned comment down below! This was one of my favorite houses I’ve ever filmed, ever since reading Ghosts Along the Mississippi I’ve always wanted to document an old place like this. Just glad I was able too film this amazing piece of architectural history. You can find old pictures of this place online as well on Google!
Thank you very much for watching and I really hope you enjoy!

The roof is now on and watertight . Not open for tours as we are sorting out the interior floors and securing the balconies on the upper level. Kappy did a great job . It was exciting watching the video To others that know the river road above New Orleans, the Founder of Laura - Norman Marmillion - died of an accident on the 11th of Oct 2022. He was a personal friend and contributor to the thoughts on the future of the Plantation. His wife Sand and daughter have lost a Husband and Father but the area has lost a very special individual. the River Road welcomes discoveries of the Past. """ STELLA''''' yelled Stanley

Born & raised in Hahnville Louisiana. The plantation was literally in my back yard . We played in the Cane field behind the plantation growing up. My grandmother and her parents lived and worked there.

I was born and raised in Louisiana and I never heard of this amazing home before!!! I am so thankful someone is saving it!! Houses like this were built to last! Can you see a home built today still standing 300 years later??? Even with all the water damage and no roof this old girl is in spectacular condition! All she needs is some love and someone committed to her restoration and she will be a stunning beauty again! Thanks so much for covering this amazing piece of southern history!! Cheers

@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 I was just about to say that. Outstanding find and documentation Kappy! So glad this home will be restored! The cypress roof beams with wooden dowels are simply amazing. That's not just any cypresswood either. It's old growth heart cypress that essentially doesn't exist anymore because the overwhelming majority of the old growth trees were harvested long ago. There is a contemporary cane syrup maker in Louisiana named Steen's that uses a French colonial plantation house on the label that looks just like the one in this video. I think it's the best cane syrup on the market personally. You can order it from Amazon. Thanks again for the powerful work you're doing and sharing these great places with all of us who would never have a chance to see them! Next time you're down in the New Orleans area be sure to go to the Garden District and eat at one of the many great restaurants there. And finally, here's my video of 100-year-old Florida farm and their family tradition of making cane syrup themselves. I'm proud to say it's been shown in three Florida museums. Hope you like it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9w362LG4NEc.html

I couldn't get out and do a walk bout as I am in a wheelchair and there wasn't any phone service there at the time....not safe for me alone. Always told my friends that Id be the skeleton someone would find if I got stuck. LOL Grass wasn't cut back then. House was not really being worked on either. So sad about the roofing.hope it get's redone quickly to save the house.
