I wonder how Canada will do in the world cup. Definitely one of the most interesting teams in the tournament! Thank you Maqwell for another amazing video❤️
YESSSSSSSSSSS I HAVE BEEN GIVING MYSELF HEARTBURN WAITING FOR THIS! One thing to point out, Atiba Hutchinson is very well loved by the Canadian fans. During the Jamaica game when he came off the bench, the stadium erupted!
The guys can be proud of Canada for giving them a place to live, and an opportunity. Canada can be proud of the guys for bringing them to the world cup, after years of depression and football almost dying in Canada. It's the perfect relationship, a great cause, and they deserve the support. This is just the beginning though.
Wow man - I consider myself a Canadian football nut and pretty knowledgeable - you went above and beyond in this and I learned a ton. Thanks so much - what an amazing piece of work
This is a very impressive video, I've been watching this youtube channel for a while and it only keeps getting better. It is impressive how good this video is and it's for free to the public. Keep this up Maqwell! Love videos about the beautiful game.
I live in Ireland and have most of my life so am just across the pond from the hubbub of the premier league all my life, my own national team aren't amazing but we have qualified for things, but not the next world cup anyway. I was born in Canada so was always curious about the potential of the sport over there, but there was never many Canadians playing in the divisions over this way, Paul Peschisolido sticks out to me as a prolific striker, but he never played in the top division as far as I can remember. Owen Hargreaves was by far the most famous Canadian player I came across, but he declared for England at a time when and you can't really say he picked wrong because the Canadian standard was far far behind. It's good to see how they have come along, Alphonso Davies was a revelation in his breakthrough year in the Bayern first team, he is already by far the most successful Canadian player of my lifetime. It's a shame they have a tough group, because just by momentum and goodwill I'd see them getting past the groups and into the knockouts on that stuff alone. It may still happen, I hope it does, I think not only I but most of the world will be routing for Canada in the summer if they start to do well. Shout out to Junior Hoilett (if he's still involved), this will be the highlight of his career.
As a Canadian obviously I had to watch all their games in person. Personally I am very proud of them. They went against the toughest teams in the world and held their own. They just need experience in playing against tougher teams and eventually they'll do better in big tournaments like the world cup.
33:27 Talking about foreign born residents with "Refugee Camp" from Xenoblade playing in the background, I wonder if it was intentional. Amazing video.
I've seen firsthand the development of soccer, coming from a small town we didn't have many options until the Whitecaps opened a regional academy to recruit for the first team. I remember we did a trip to Vancouver and we were taught about the "live above the line mentality" but I didn't know that came from John Herdman until this video. I wasn't good enough to progress in the academy but now look at the talents coming through to the Whitecaps, Alphonso Davies being the prime example. Such an exciting time for Canadian soccer! Thanks for the top notch video!
Im a Brazilian Canadian dual national, raised in Canada. The end has never made me more proud of the CanadianMNT, usually my team is the seleção but I will definitely look forward to watching the MNT play more.
I finally have my own country to cheer for at the World Cup. All of these years I had to watch matches as a neutral and never felt the real joy of celebrating a World Cup goal.
Great video. It really looked into detail about what the CanMNT was and what it is now. I also liked how you went through John Herdman's time with the CanWNT as head coach before he changed jobs to be the CanMNT head coach. I do think this rise of Canada as a soccer nation is permanent just like how Japan made their first-ever FIFA World Cup in 1998 and they have not looked back. Most importantly, the men's club game has really improved in Canada with 11 top-tier professional soccer teams in the country, with a 12th one coming in next year (Langley coming to CPL). Canada did not have a top-tier pro men's soccer team from 1993 to 2006 (until TFC played their first season in 2007), and I think that it played a big role in Canada's previous struggles.
canada could cause an upset this wc tbh , as a belgian i'd say they could beat belgium and croatia if they have a bad day , this world cup is gonna be a test for this team however , 0 chance they win this lmao but the 2026 cup is gonna be the big one for the usa and canada tho , the potential of these north americans are insane , and most of them are still young , canada (and the usa) are teams to watch out for in the future , i can see one of them going to the semi in 2026, players like david and davies are gonna be world class by then , also tajon buchanan has serious potential to be the player of the year next season in belgium so
Played with Milan Borjan when he immigrated to Canada. East Hamilton Soccer Club. Even at 13-14 he was ridiculous in goal. His father had a pedigree from back home in Croatia and it shown through. Just looking at the side then we thrived as a result of diversity. So glad to see him reach these hieghts along with the rest of our nation. Oh Canada & congrats Peanut Butter.
28:00 So that's why Canada wasn't there. When I watched your US video, I was like where's Canada? They would surely qualify with the great players they have. Now I know what happened.
I can relate more to the Canadian Team than to the USMNT due to me being a Child of Immigrants myself. What Canada is doing to recruit for their Teams is something US Soccer should do because we're letting too many Kids Slip through the Cracks that at this point we're now struggling in the Backline, Goalie, and Forward Positions.
Never been more proud to be Canadian. I only had Germany to root for until Davies joined Bayern, showing his talent to the world, bringing attention to Canada. Now, they qualified for the WORLD CUP, FOR TWICE IN A ROW???
My favourite cousin is from Canada, whenever we talked about sports we would chat about ice hockey or basketball, but not football. I haven't talked to him for a few years and this seems like a good time to reconnect. While I may be supporting England in the World Cup, I'll definitely be paying attention to how Canada does. I hope they at least make it to the knockout stages.
I had the luck of attending the home game against Jamaica in Toronto and it was just incredible seeing the amount of people rallying behind one team. When that final whistle blew everybody went berserk and it was insane. Probably one of the best events I’ve gone to and will ever go to
I was in the supporters section and had a great view of the stands; hardly an empty space and the roar when Larin scored and the love and respect given to Atiba was unlike anything I've experienced. The banging of the drums was just a topper
The south end of BMO was a party that day. I remember bursting into tears when Tajon scored because there was always that little voice saying "don't get too excited yet" with this team, but it finally went away in that moment. I still can't watch that moment without bawling my eyes out because of what that moment means to me.
As my current profile picture shows, I was there too. My first ever Canadian Men’s Team game, and my word. It was so special, and by far the best sporting event I’ve ever been to.
as a canadian, it seems extremely weird seeing your country dominate in WC qualifying and eventually making it to Qatar. i can only speak for myself, i have supported italy my entire life, and i think a lot of other people fall into the same convo of supporting just their “ethnic” nation. i think this will be the first time a lot of canadians will actually follow canadian soccer, including myself.
Yes, I’m the same. My dad was from Scotland and was a diehard Tartan Army member. It’s a nice consolation for Scotland not making it. But I can’t wait to be annoyed when no one cares that the World Cup is on and we’re in it.
As a Canadian I am so proud of that team and how far our country has come in the most beautiful game. Thank you for putting so much time into this Maxwell!
As a Portuguese Italian born In Toronto. There was a weird week earlier this year where I thought "Canada might be the only team I cheer for in this world cup final " shows how far we've come
I'm super excited to see what Canada can do at the World Cup especially with Alphonso Davies hands down he's the best player on their team he's made a big impact for em.
I SEE THE FINAL 🇶🇦⚽🏆 IN QATAR 2022; 🇲🇽 MÉXICO VS 🇨🇦 CANADÁ. 🇲🇽 MÉXICO 1-(6)-1-(5)-🇨🇦 CANADÁ. 🇨🇦🇶🇦🥈⚽ CANADÁ RUNNER-UP , 2.- PLACE IN QATAR 2022: LOSSING THE FINAL AGAINST 🇲🇽🏆🥇🇶🇦⚽ MÉXICO WINNIG THE WORLD CUP PENALTY KICK....
This was Hutch's last chance at making it to the WC, so glad he's getting it. He certainly hasn't got the respect he deserves here at home, but among those of us who have supported our national side through tick and thin, he's been a solid hero. The heartbreak I have this year is that DeRo didn't get a chance to play in the WC
