Hello! Eh Up! And how ya Diddlin! In this weeks video, we’re off to look at the incredible village ripped apart by industrialisation. The village I’m talking about of course, is Stoney Stanton in south west Leicestershire. Granite has been quarried here, since Roman times, but more predominantly since the early 19th century. It also got even busier, when Stoney Stanton was connected to a new nearby mainline railway in the 1860’s. This village, was I suppose dug up! It must’ve been a crazy scene, with three large quarries, in what was a tiny village in those times. Nowadays, one is completely filled in, and the other two are full of water, but one of those of course is the famous Stoney Cove diving centre. Anyway, I really hope you enjoy this weeks video.
Thank you for watching, Steve ❤️
