19:18 This suits him more. Even as a child, there were signs he was a sociopath. He didn’t actually care about the act of saving people, just the flashiness (he’s seen as a terrifying example of a toxic fan, as well). When Mr. Incredible calls him by his real name, it sets him off. He’s EXTREMELY reckless. The Bomb Voyage incident was because he walked into a dangerous situation without a care in the world. Not sure if he cared that the supervillain got away… more so that Mr. Incredible told him no (and for good reason). This guy’s an example of a predisposed sociopath that goes all-out with a game-changing event in life (namely, the Bomb Voyage incident).
@SSanatobaJR
@SSanatobaJR 2 года назад
Also, his Bomb Voyage incident helped to get Supers banned. So he already had his revenge......but that wasn't good enough for him. He had to intentionally do it and destroy as many Supers as possible, especially Mr. Incredible. He wasn't satisfied until he could 1-up Mr. Incredible, even though he never could. The kid/guy was a real wack-job.

Exactly, he wants to "BE" a hero, not do hero work.
@ShawndaPrawn

It's pretty telling that during the "I work alone" flashback, Bomb Voyage is completely absent. He convinced himself his idol rejected him instead of acknowledging that his pestering was distracting him from apprehending a terrorist, nor does he ever seem to note that his actions almost got innocent people killed. Crazy SOB was a disgrace to Supers from the start.

1) I used Syndrome’s “monologue about monologuing” as a theater audition piece 😂 2) Giacchino’s score SLAPS 3) I think why they always have a hard time making a Fantastic Four movie is because this movie exists.

The orchestral score is so on point, I used to wear out my dad's Goldfinger and 2001: a Space Odyssey soundtrack LPs, and collected all the Star Trek movie soundtrack albums myself. Michael Gianchino is one of the best at that sort of thing nowadays (LOST, Star Trek) and also the CHERNOBYL and Sicario/Arrival composers. In Arrival and Star Trek (2009) I found myself bawling my eyes out in the opening scenes in part because the music was just so very good (I've played bass in student and semi professional orchestras, always with people so much better than me, so although I don't think much of my own musical abilities I have a heightened appreciation of what goes into a composition that requires 80 to 105 people to play).

Fun little fact: Edna Mode is voiced by the director, Brad Bird. They had intended to give the part to a professional voice actor. But in every audition, Bird would give an example of the kind of voice they were looking for, and no one was good enough. They finally concluded that the only person who could do the voice was Brad Bird himself.

One thing I love is that while Bob can seem incompetent, the one thing he is truly good at is being Mr. Incredible. Regardless of the sequel, I feel that the original intention of the Underminer was just to end the movie in a fun way and to show that they’re back to doing hero stuff, now as a family. He’s just a bit too ridiculous to work as a main villain, or really as anything other than a one-off joke.

@@hanna-writes Well, the sequel just used him as the Bomb-voyage of the film, so... not exactly main villain.
@hanna-writes
@hanna-writes Год назад
@@jordancooney6817 they tried, it just didn’t work very well. Problem number one is that the key to a successful one-off joke is that it is, as the name suggests, one-off. Bomb Voyage was introduced, said a couple of funny lines, and then we had a fifteen-year timeskip almost immediately. It was easy and natural to assume that he would never show up again, and he didn’t. The Underminer showed up as a one-off joke at the end of the first movie, and then they brought him back. So suddenly you assume he’s somehow important-why else would he be here? Problem number two is how long that sequence was in the sequel. I haven’t watched it in a while, but it was a full-on action sequence that lasted for some minutes. The fact that they lingered served a narrative purpose, yes (it showed off the massive property damage that set the rest of the plot in motion) but again, it gave the Underminer more attention than he frankly deserved. Problem number three is that he underdelivered on his promises. He surfaced, revealing himself after decades or maybe centuries of living underground, and basically made a bid for world domination. And then… he robbed a bank, and back down he went. So the fact that they brought him back, gave him a fair bit of screen time and had him underdeliver on his initial promises all suggest, from a story-telling perspective, that he’s somewhat important and that you’ll probably hear from him again. Except you don’t. Now, I’m of the opinion that the plot of the entire sequel was exceptionally stupid and unnecessary-the whole point of the “2 months later” scene at the end of the first movie was to show that they’re back to doing hero work in the open, with their suits and their masks, and that this is their new normal. So the plot of the second movie is kinda retconny, but even if you wanna keep it, there were other ways to set it in motion. Show a montage of them doing secret hero work, where everything is nice and rosy, and then later juxtapose it with a montage of all the collateral damage. Heck, say that the bill that forced them into hiding was removed in the wake of Syndrome’s attack, but that they need to put stronger legislation in place to protect the rights of superheroes, or there’s nothing stopping a new bill from taking the old one’s place five or ten years down the line. Nothing could have really saved this movie except reworking it from the ground up, but it could have been less frustrating in its mediocrity with a few key changes.

If I may be so bold as to suggest, if you enjoyed this movie (and it appears you did), you might consider 1999's 'The Iron Giant' (also directed by Brad Bird).

This movie is so nostalgic to me. Every time I see it I feel the warmth of old memories. It's one of those movies I grew up with along with Shrek, ratatouille and more. I can't express in words the warmth and comfort I feel watching this movie as it so nostalgic. I am glad that you enjoyed the movie 😊.

At the time Disney did not yet own Pixar. That's why they had more control over the movie.

In real life, Mr. Incredible couldn’t’ve been sued for trying to save the guy out of good faith. If you get rid of that, you get the kind of asinine precedent that leads to the story of this movie. Cool story, though.

IMHO one of the most impressive parts in the movie is Helen flying the plane (of course she can!) and talking on the radio. It's the real lingo used by airplane pilots, and Holly Hunter insisted on it being explained to her, so that she fully understands everything she says. It shows.

It was not a cliffhanger in the conventional way. This movie was tied up with a computer game, in which the Underminer was the main villain. The sequel movie begins with this same shot, but the story is completely different. And another main villain.

26:17 Ok, but... Mr Incredible, as the dad, is meant to be the STRONG one of the family, Elastigirl is the mom, and is meant to be FLEXIBLE, the shy girl is INVISIBLE and DASH IS DASH. Also, you'll find out later, but Jack-Jack is meant to be a Jack of all trades, so he has multiple powers

There’s a theory that syndrome went to Edna to get his suit made. She normally doesn’t do capes but since she sensed evil in him, she made his suit with the cape, knowing one day it’ll lead to his downfall

The Incredibles is one of my top favorite Pixar movies of all time, and it along with Spider-Man 2 were among the best superhero movies of the decade which preceded the Marvel Cinematic Universe long before its inception in 2008 with Iron Man. The action scenes, the acting performances by the voice actors, the comedy and humor, and especially the soundtrack all still stick out to me even as a grownup. Thank you Sophie, for making a reaction to this movie! My epic quest of reliving my childhood is complete 😆😆 Hope to see your reaction to Incredibles 2, and maybe if it's not too much to ask, the Sam Raimi original Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire, perhaps the other movies with Andrew Garfield and then Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy

Just as the Matrix was a better adaptation of Ghost in the Shell than the live action movie that actually bore the name, so is this a better Fantastic Four movie than any of the live action movies to use that name. Violet has both invisibility and force fields because she basically has the same powers as Susan Richards from the Fantastic Four. Edna Mode is voiced by the male director. There are a lot of fan theories that Edna is a reformed supervillain. You're right. Violet is OP. So is Susan Richards.

You realize that iron man 3 was the exact premise from the Pixar film The incredibles Tony met him a long time ago, hurt his feelings, which push him over the edge and now he's a super villain, currently with the upper hand and Tony's temporarily trapped it's totally the same story, hell he has a black friend who helps him fight crime and he has a super suit

Kind of crazy how when this movie came out, the thin portable screen that Mirage uses to video call Mr Incredible was non-existent scifi future tech, and to today's audiences its like "oh neat, an ipad". Like you probably weren't even aware that the tablet was a comic book / superhero thing, rather than a real world thing.

Fun Fact: Apparently you can actually be sued depending on the situation or state you are in even if you are saving the persons life. Since most states allow you to sue for almost any reason even if its something as stupid as bad breath it's just up to the court and state to decide rather your case is worth it or not. ( So realisticly if you dressed as a superhero and tried to save someones life and damage them or property in the progress you will be liable to compensate them for it so that also explains why superheroes disappear after the deed is done. LMAO )

Play on words Mr. Incredible has superstrength and is the dad, and they were expected to show strength back then. His name is Bob. Mrs. Incredible/Elastigirl has elasticity and is the mom, and she were expected to be able to take care of everything around the house then. Her name is Helen. Violet is a teenage girl going through puberty or adolescence. Her powers are invisibility (teenagers) and force fields the color of violet. Dash is a kid in Elementary school, the age your hyper and excited about things. He has superspeed. Jack-Jack is a baby. Baby’s are unpredictable in their actions for the first year or two, so he has many powers or is a jack of all trades. Syndrome. He has Hero Syndrome (creates a chaotic problem that he can only resolve).

This is my favorite Pixar movie. But you have this one a little sideways. The Incredibles is an homage to Marvel's first family the Fantastic Four, from the mid 1960s. . Their power sets are almost identical and the FF was the first comic to focus on hero family life. So Marvel crawled so The Incredibles could walk so Marvel coud run! 😀
@Cinemabu11
@Cinemabu11 Год назад
It's no secret at this point, but the Incredible Family is actually a parody of the Fantastic Four. Elastigirl = Mr. Fantastic (elastic powers) | Violet = Invisible Woman (invisibility & force fields) | Jack Jack and Dash = Human Torch (super speed & fire powers) | Mr. Incredible = The Thing (super strength) Another detail to nail the comparison home is that the Fantastic Four are known as "Marvel's First Family"
