It is an irony for Indian Scientists that they never get enough credits for their work. Bose has always been judged for not getting a Nobel prize but commoners forget winning a so-called prize can never be a symbol of excellence. There were lot many scientists viz Bose, M.N. Saha, Stephen Hawking, Ramanujan etc. made significant contributions in Science.

It is interesting to see why we say Indian scientists do not get enough credit? How do you measure credit? Science is not a discrete world - its a continuum where every scientist makes incremental improvement over the work of the previous person. There are very few whose work is absolutely standout as they founded new fields of study, e.g. Einsten and his theory of relativity; Niels Bohr, Erwin Schrödinger, Werner Heisenberg, Max Born, and Paul Dirac, who gradually developed Quantum Mechanics - another revolutionary field in physics but by sheer individual contribution, Einsten, Newton and Gallileo stand apart. Even then, Einstein based his work on n-space differential geometry of which Minkowsky space was a part. Theoretical scientists rarely get Nobel prize because Nobel prize is given to an actual discovery. Many of Stephen Kawking's papers are theoretical framework but have not been tested to be accurate. Even Einstein did not get his Nobel prize for the theory of relativity. Saha and Bose both were theoretical physicists whose works paved the way for further theoretical research and then with the invention of particle accelerators since the 1950s, their works were proved. Ramanujan was a mathematician and as such he could not get Nobel prize because Nobel prize is not given to mathematicians.

I think bro we indian even don't care whats happening in science field if sir APJ Abdul Kalam wouldn't had become the president of india barely anyone would have know who he is and after looking at the current scenario of india i dont think anyone is interested in science stuff atleast news should promote rather than promoting god/religion which many scientist thinks that they don't exist and about the ancient science stuff we were not alone that time like we have lost and failed to recognise many scientist that time there were others civilisation who has lost them and about the baba stuff promoting religious text as a science (are you gonna read science metaphorically like connecting the dots or you want to read the exact word which today universally accepted ) and i agree some of these seems like they are just like mordern science but hey those were just basics and some of those were wrong like for example you have hanuman chalisa i don't where but somewhere it is written the distance of sun and earth but the thing those information are given by a baba they just missed the fact that th sun is exapanding every instant of time and from 9 billons light years after big bang sun was formed and after0.22 billion light years earth was formed now the time we are living in is 13.64 billion light years after big bang then and it has expanded 20% from its actually from its actually area and we don't know when was holy hanuman chalisa was written and after 1 billion the sun will start boiling and after 5 billion years the earth will end because sun will grow like very fast and it will suck up the earth so my request is to not to fall into these baba traps and read the actual science and who am i to tell you i am a future theoretical physicist

We Indians are obsessed with the past. We are not looking what is happening at present and what we are about to do in future. The news channels are full of shitty programmes since the last 1.5 decades. I don't blame the medias. They just show what fetches them high ratings. If people love to watch shit, they will telecast shit. Teachers are also responsible to some extent. They kill the curiosity of young minds. Science is not just solving numericals. It brings rationality in mind. It makes mind more conscious of whats happening around..observe every little thing and analyze how and why did it happen first of all from scientific perspective.

I also don't know anything deep about sir S.N. Bose.. But my physics teacher once told me that his teacher was a student of sir S.N. Bose. I only knew about Bose-Einstein Condensate and The Boson particle....And if I remember .. When a science fair was organized in my school on the occasion of Sir Meghnath Saha's birth anniversary, a professor from Calcutta University told us a very little about these letters..

During his education in presidency college, teacher wanted to know his memory power....so they made a plan....a teacher from constructed a new poem....the teacher caught Bose on the street and tell him the poem.....now, the teacher asked Bose to repeat......Bose did it without missing a dot. People used to call him 'Ranga Babu'. He used be in good times with chemistry guys rather physics guys during Calcutta University period. And yes.... Einstein try to give him a recco for Noble(mentioned him to asked another recco from Fermi) but he has no interest for Noble prize. He used to credited his grooming as a science enthuast to Acharya Gagadish Chandra Bose(created electromagnetic wave and demonstrated, but...) and Acharya Prafulya Chandra Ray).

At that time West Bengal was the centre of learning in South Asia due to the Bengal Renaissance and subsequent establishment of Universities. Scientists all around the world including C.V. Raman was associated with universities in Bengal. Nobel laureate Pakistani scientist Mohammad Abdus Salam came to Kolkata after he had owned the price to meet his professor from Bengal. Today every Indian science institute be it IITB, IITM, IISC, etc. has a considerable population of Bengalis. But slowly many institutions and universities are declining in Bengali unfortunately due to issues, corruption, etc. As a Bengali today we have to move outside Bengal for jobs as a researcher!

He was born very poor, so poor that he somehow survived 1943 Bengal famine on his grandmother's food. While in University of Calcutta, S.N. Bose himself persuaded him to complete PhD. With a torn bag, borrowed money from fellow villagers, and just little money in his pocket, he reached USA ( to pursue research at UCLA). That poor guy today is one of the richest persons there. He discovered the great LASIK surgery with few other people. People should know his story, a real rags to riches story You can, I mean should read his book Code Name God

I would say - most of the science student in West Bengal knows this connection and far more details on this. Those letters are still having crucial knowledge on quantum physics as there were discussions on properties on quantum elements (which is now scientists deriving by projecting 3D Crystal out of 8 Dimensions concept and found much relevant on it). That's why Satyendra Nath Bose is The father of Quantum Statistics.
@SSmitar
@SSmitar 2 года назад
It's quite unfortunate how he isn't celebrated in Indian education system given Satyendra Nath Bose's work along with Einstein paved a way to entirely new class of particles and gave a new way to detect behavior of particles which were different than Fermions (Bose-Einstein Statistics). If junior college physics textbook contains mention of Enricho Fermi, Ernest Rutherford et al, as soon as Photons come into question, Bose's name must be mentioned as well. Hell, there should be a national holiday in his name given Standard Model wouldn't be where it is now without his contribution. Padma Bhushan and a postal ticket aren't enough, IMHO. Man was not only a polymath but also a polyglot and AFAIK was also able to play several musical instruments. What a literal badass.

Excellent video. Bose wrote a paper and sent it to Einstein because no one was willing to publish his paper, simply becase he was an indian. Einstein immidietly appreciated it's importance. He then published a paper in which is explained a new stae of the particle beside solid, liquid, gas and plasma. This forth state was achived at an extremely low temprature. A hair above absolute zero (nearly -273 degrees centigrade), He called it bose einstein condansate. The vibration of atoms increases with temptrature, and the matter changes from solid to liquid to gas. Also in reverse the vibrations of atoms reduce as temprature goes down, from liquid to solid (Less vibrations of atoms). When it reaches a temprature, just a hair above ABsolute zero, the stae of the matter looses it's individual identity. All particales becomes like one, part of the same system, instead of indiviudual particle. This new state is called bose Einstine condensate. In 1992, one gernam and 2 American scientisits got Nobel prise (Jointly) for creating the forst Bose Einstine Condansate in universe. It is a quantum state. The properties of Bose EInstein consate is amazing. It lasts for few seconds. But the light when passed through it, the speed of light reduces to from 186,000/Miles/second to 10 miles / second. It slows down the speed of light. It has many more features.

Professor Satyendra Nath Basu was a genius, 100% without doubt. In india to get recognition, genius is not the only criterion, one has to put his Religious, Caste, Creed, Ideological preference card judiciously.

He's not forgotten those who study physics know about him. We literally have bosons named after him and Bose Einstein Statistics is a part of every physics undergrad program in the world.

When Bose himself was once asked that question, he simply replied, "I have got all the recognition I deserve"- probably because in the realms of science to which he belonged, what is important is not a Nobel, but whether one's name will live on in scientific discussions in the decades to come.

I've been a fan of physics, quantum, and cosmology since childhood but because I feared mathematics I couldn't advance in the subject. I always wanted to research in nuclear, quantum, etc. Ig that level maths isn't my cup of tea understood that earlier.

It's very difficult to understand why Indian scientists don't get enough credit they deserve,people will always slamm about receiving Nobel, but a scientist's work is not limited or gets justice by receiving the Nobel only . It's so much more.... These scientist and their work should be on our books,people knowing about them , talking about them,and praising them. I think that's how they should be credited instead of just slaming about the Nobel only...

I have heard a powerful statement a while ago, and it stuck with me, it goes like “Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.” .. the things happening in our indian politics today is the result of the good time created by those gaint ... feeling vary bad that we are the week men .. hoping for strong men in next generation ....
