How we see the world determines how we act. Western thought sees us at war with each other over resources. Indigenous philosophy, we are all related as individuals in balance with nature. Watch ENOUGHNESS: Resorting Balance to the Economy and learn more at www.firstpeople....

very good video. I think people don't realize how serious a problem this is. I got a chance to meet some indigenous communities who visited our school once and I was amazed by how happy they are as a people. They do not have access to education or modern technology but they enjoyed the essence of their culture and valued their identity as a community and their kin. They have a totally different worldview as ours. At times like that will you realize that life is a lot simpler and easier and that what nature has given us is enough to keep us going and make us happy.

We need to be careful not to romanticize indigenous people and their world views. Not all indigenous cultures have the best views on things. Some indigenous cultures could really use a dose of modern scientific thinking in their cultures. Allowing certain indigenous cultures to be left alone with their beliefs would mean the Aztec and Mayans would still be sacrificing people. Why do many African cultures practice FGM and view some children as witches and then mistreat them? Because of their indigenous world views that's why. So lets not get caught up in thinking everything non western is holy and righteous and everything western is bad. It's a matter of people borrowing the most useful and productive views from each side and eliminating the more harmful views of each side.

Western values allowed for the burning of whitches ect....and did many of its own killings. However. I get your point. It's almost like all people from every walk of life has participated in these things. Like, its in our nature.

Those are highly exaggerated and weaponized theories on history. Fact is when the settlers got here they already had the issue we face today in retaining science and history. It was highly saturated with nationalism and flawed theories on human advancement.

Empire Reconnaissance Agents: or so-called "Explorers", Priests, Nuns, Missionaries, Teachers, Army personnel etc had very specific agendas from their oligarch masters in order to justify the expense of their very costly (Multiple-millions in today's $) & violent expeditions. Part of this job was to create horror stories about these so-called 'primitive' or 'savage' (Latin 'sylva' = 'tree') people in order to justify oligarch imposed invasion/genocide atrocities. ie We are 'better' as much as they are 'evil'. Purported stories of 'sacrificing people' accomplishes (i.e. your own pre-occupation) pretty much the same as the US "spreading-democracy" false story (of many 10s of 1000s of false stories) about "Throwing babies out of incubators" in Iraq. Many Archaeologists & Anthropologists have looked for the Aztec & Mayan evidence & only found the even more atrocious correspondence of Reconnaissance-Agents playing their role in the big 'LIE'. Remember there is no 'West'. Celtic & Slavic Europe resisted oligarch colonization for many 1000s of years through Babylon, Assyria, Greece & Roman violent invasions & resource extraction & human exploitation. To understand 'Science' (French 'scier' = 'to cut' or 'analyse' by multiple oriented teeth as in a saw-blade) as multi-faceted analysis, you must know the problem of so-called Western 'science' is really just top-down oligarch-financed control agenda. Most real western 'scientists' have the constant complaint about not being able to make genuine life, people & biosphere inquiry, when it crosses the oligarch trickledown system of funding mostly garbage life-damaging false technology. I spent a few years as a field assistant in Doctoral field research to learn this dilemma intimately. sites.google.com/site/indigenecommunity/home/9-undoing-false-science The Aztec city of Tenochtitlan for example was the largest city in the world with upwards of 350,000 people in 1519 built on an artificial island in Lake Texacocco, when the murderous Cortez arrives. Cortez is shocked in crossing one of the causeway bridges that the water is pure, unpolluted. How can this be? The Biosphere based science of the Aztecs accommodated, biologically transformed & harnessed the fecal & urine leavings at many 1000s of tonnes per day into valuable food producing production through such as Tenochtitlan's floating gardens. No city worldwide on this scale has accomplished as much. Charles C. Mann's book '1491' helps to debunk some of the false 'reconnaissance' reports. sites.google.com/site/indigenecommunity/structure/6-holistic-science

From a root perspective I find it interesting that first peoples have long held within there society's the deepest internal recognition strutures when It comes to addressing core aspects of what western phycology labels as Tribalism., For example the Haudenosaunee and how they internally addressed conflict within there own deep history , many native languages like Cherokee originally have no word for "I" only "We" and recognize value the importance of a persons ability to hold an "internal" locus of control , I still feel this presentation is to much "Us" and "Them" as ethos values have evolved and intermixed on a number of levels in todays time.

Who developed the indigenous world view? Indigenous used to mean what the dictionary says it means but in some parts of the world it means the people conquered by Western imperialists in North and South America and Australia and New Zealand. (In this context it is usually spelt with a capital "I"). In Canada, for example, First Nations, Aboriginal, Native and Indigenous all refer to the indigenous inhabitants of the land - the "Indians" and "Eskimos" (Inuit) - that lived there before it was colonized by Europeans. The video obviously is in favour of the IWV over global capitalism but it never gets into detail how its values are achieved in practice. Is it a cohesive ideology practiced by any tribes or peoples today? It would be interesting to know more details about it. Global capitalism is teetering on collapse and Western society is morally bankrupt with the rich worshipping the "free" (i.e. rigged) market and the aimless citizenry dedicated to escaping reality with drugs and booze and mindless hedonism and, increasingly, hatred ). Western wars, invasions and occupations tear apart other societies in a desperate and savage attempt to keep the moribund Euro-American project relevant. The Zionist (yes, it was Jewish Zionists, it's a fact...get over it) appropriation of Palestine was the last overt European colonial takeover and follows a "proud" tradition that saw genocide in the Americas and Africa with no redress or acknowledgement that lives are still being destroyed by the colonial legacy...and the Zionist project is now openly genocidal and practices apartheid (but don't say it too loud or some upset Jews will cry to you about "anti-Semitism" as if the Jewish people are poor and oppressed in today's world and as if Israel is a legitimate nation). The Palestinians were ready to accept a deal that saw Israel pull back to its pre-1967 border but every Israeli government has rejected that is now taking over all of Palestine. And they wonder why Palestinians (and anyone with eyes and a brain) think Israel is a pariah state that uses the Holocaust as justification for becoming like the evil that was done to them by the nazis. Even Jews who say this are accused of hating themselves by Zionists and Jewish extremists. Its a bad situation and the future is dark now that it is much much more fifficult for Israel to enlighten itself as it is building colonies for Jews only on Palestinian (Muslim and Christian) land as fast as it can. All of Southwest Asia (the "middle east") has been overrun by France, the UK and now also Israel and the United States for over two centuries and its people have never had a chance to sort themselves out and live according to their traditions and beliefs (which might NOT always include secular or liberal democracy) something that many Westerners simply cannot wrap their minds around because they have been indoctrinated to believe the Western way is the only authentic and desirable way to arrange a society. The West is "fine" with non-Western systems as long as the leaders bow to Europe and America. They prop up regimes that the people hate and don't want, but will destroy any country that decides it will look after itself and not obey the West. It's a bad situation and is getting worse. New ideas are desperately needed.

The thing I don't like about this video is that it creates a false dualism between "indigenous" vs "western". Everyone is indigenous and everyone has been affected by colonialism. People don't view social relations as competition because of some "western" perspective but because increasing specialization in society divides people into a hierarchy of competitive groups which exists in both western and nonwestern cultures.
@layinlow77
@layinlow77 10 лет назад
No, there is a big difference between colonizers and those colonized. Everyone certainly does not live in a society with ties to indigenous traditional culture, and increasing specialization was not a factor in indigenous societies. Specialization was never the reason for hierarchies based on power anyway.
@StPeteDada
@StPeteDada 10 лет назад
bryan s Even though not everybody lives in a society with ties to indigenous culture, everybody is a descendent from indigenous cultures that have been displaced by colonizers.
@layinlow77
@layinlow77 10 лет назад
***** That's a good thing to consider definitely. But then we know there are some who are suffering a lot more now and for the past good while, regardless of what displacement may have taken place long long ago. And it has to do with what a people currently consider their culture. Regardless, i think the video presents an important choice that faces us right now.

+bryan s Everybody is from an indigenous culture, even those from western cultures. They all began as indigenous tribes to a certain area, but then eventually all tribes evolve into empires and conquer. American Indians had a few empires that did that..think Aztec. Please stop with the non-Western indigenous are all angels and westerners are all bad racist devils propaganda. And please don't use the I hate non-Western indigenous cultures crap crap, I love the non-western indigenous cultures, especially the North American Indian ones.

Although there are some truths in this presentation, it ignores completely several realities: 1. Everyone is indigenous to somewhere, and not all Indigenous peoples believe the same things. 2. Many cultures use a word for themselves which is equivalent to "the people", which oftentimes means "we are, but you're not". 3. "Western" civilisation did not invent competition for resources nor war. 4. The Inuit share to make sure that their own survive, however, before the Inuit arrived, there were the pre-Dorset, Dorset, and Thule cultures. Where are they now? Hint: the newly arrived didn't share the resources with the previously established culture... 😱💀 another hint 5. The Mongols spent the better part of 300 years conquering and dominating everyone they could - it wasn't learned from the West 6. One of the main reasons Cortés so easily conquered the Aztecs is because their Indigenos neighbours hated their guts (since the Aztecs conquered and brutalised their Indigenous neighbours), so they helped the Spaniards take them out. Where do you think the sacrifice victims came from? 7. The Zulus did not originate in South Africa: they fought their way down, dominating everyone in the way, using newly invented military technology to do so, invented by their leader Shaka Zulu. 8. In short, EVERY CULTURE has had trouble with its neighbours to some degree or other. 9. We all like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way, Isaiah 53:6.

I think it is very important to emphasize that the native perspective of society is animistic. This is very different from pluralism, which is the Bedrock for socialism; it is very different from individualism which is the Bedrock for corporatism. Both socialism and corporatism create the same results in the end. The end result is of course running headlong into self-destruction through the philosophy of progressivism. When studying Western cultures which retain their tribal identities, we see the diversity found in Western Society; which fell to the progressivist romanized cultures in the West, which has resulted in The Stereotype that Western Civilization is this narrow perception that creates the conquest of colonialism and globalism ( same thing really). It is therefore arguable that using the term Western as a blanket statement for all Western culture is a very poor choice of words because it promotes racism against Europeans, and places people in the Western World on defense by telling them we are good and you are bad. It is most wise to understand that our matriarchal cultures left us vulnerable to the physical advancements of patriarchal culture. Thus it is self-evident that instead of trying to completely destroy "Western" advancement that it is favorable to find a balance of matriarchy and patriarchy. matriarchy provides a great deal of social technology advancements, while lacking in physical technology; whereas patriarchy provides a great deal physical advancement, while lacking in Social technology. Both worldviews are necessary just as the mother and father are necessary for a functional family. In short, the solution isn't buried in dichotomy of matriarchy vs. Patriarchy, the solution is self evident that the two are unwed like we find in so many dysfunctional families. the journey to that balance began with the founding of the United States of America. which unfortunately has failed miserably in fulfilling the promises of the charters of freedom. It Is by returning to the foundations of this nation and working to fulfill them and learn from them that we will at last find balance.

Imposed perspective structures rule our societys today ,, for example native laws are associated with concept of "responsibility's"--------- European laws are associated with the concept of "rights". most native languages do not even have a word or expression structure for the concept of "rights". Now we are talking about the creation of laws that Grant or recognize that nature has the "rights" to exist ??? interesting perception of reality to say the least.. "example" "Bolivia Grants Nature Historic "Bill of Rights" (youtube refrence) The concept of the "two ships" sailing down a river , in the core symbology of the two row wampum , The two ships can see each other ,, but no one in either ship should be able to take the helm "steer " the other ship , this perceptive in todays world is shifting (youtube reference) on thoughts upon this "Treaty Relations and Two Row Companion - Conversations in Cultural Fluency #5
