the anti piracy screen of games aren't like those spoof ones where you get like a death threat and a childhood trauma. most of them fuck with you or doesn't let you progress.

Yeah! If i were to make a game with Anti-Piracy, the way I'd do it is if the game detects Piracy it'd load a slightly changed Demo of the game. After the Demo is over, there would be the basic text that appears at the end of the Demo, along with extra text saying: "Also, don't think we don't know what you did. You attempted to Pirate this game, didn't you? Yeaah, real smart, buddy." "Piracy is considered a very serious crime, one that you could end up spending real jail-time for if you get caught." "Don't worry, don't worry, we're not gonna rat you out. Just let this serve as a lesson for if you try this with anything else." "Instead, because we're nice, we decided we'd let you still play the Demo of this game, since that's free to play anyways." "Either way, if you want to play the full game, you gotta be an honest man and buy it. Until you do, you can still play this Demo." "Not that we mind that you pirated it, since it's the same Demo aside from this message." "Oh, and in case you're one of those sneaky types... yeah, don't get any ideas about glitching past this point. We specifically designed this Demo to have nothing of interest past this point, so as to not let you play content you're not supposed to."

If I were to make an Anti-Piracy screen, I'd make it load into a different version of the game with HYPER difficulty to where it's nearly impossible (50x enemies, enemies are 10x faster, bosses have 100x hp, enemies can't die), and if you take damage, you'd get a softlock screen, with some extra text: "Well, seems you've died... But, it also seems you attempted to pirate my game, not cool bro." "I hope you know pirating is a serious crime, right? You can get real jail time for pirating stuff." "I'd recommend the demo if you want to try out the game, rather than pirating it." "Click this link to go play the demo: [insert demo link here]" "Anyway, I hope you stop sailing the seven seas, and actually learn to use your money to buy stuff." And after you close the game, or click the link, the game would delete itself.

If it's easily accessible and there's a demo and it's a fair price, usually just young people. Penny pinchers are uncommon but not rare. The Just Shapes and Beats anti piracy has the dev pop up and go "Yeah I did the same when I was a kid, so, karma. Make sure to leave a good review and tell your friends, they might have money and they might buy it, 'and come check out our twitch stream, thanks for playing!"

Most demos only show small low performance and low mechanical areas failing to show both arguments you make effective. Demos are rare and piracy does the same thing if they are honest. Elden Ring is a great example, the first 1-5 hours is different then the 10th in both difficulty and performance. If a game locks its story to DLC you won't know till you get there either. People who use Piracy are those who have been burned time and time again and learned that sometimes the only way to know is to finish the game and then pay.

Then it's on you to decide if you like where it's going. Also, what game has locked its story to dlc? I never heard of one. Edit: I am not 100% against piracy. Games produced by EA are so horrendous that i don't want to play them, let alone pay for them. For p2w games, i totally understand it.
