Fun fact: the Higgins boats were designed and built in Louisiana but driven by what become the Coast Guard. The amphibitracks were instrumental in the pacific theater for their ability to not get caught up in the reefs

From what I've seen through his vids, when he says "fatal wound," he means a wound that will kill you if left untreated

It was during this time that Japan believed that they were invincible and couldn’t be touched. The Dolittle raid proved otherwise and as an added bonus some the bombs fell on their emperor’s palace just inside the courtyard

@@akarbit3r111 ah the Russo-Japanese War some considered to be WW0 while that was a factor in their confidence I believe the invincible delusion began with the Meiji restoration. They modernized in just under 20 years on top of that they kept the Bushido code (which does more harm than good) after the Satsuma rebellion even though the samurai class system from the Edo and Sengoku period had become archaic at this point. But if anything the Russo-Japanese War proved what happens when a country rushes to war ill-prepared. An old proverb states: “in times of peace prepare for war”

Reason this was so important is because Japan itself couldn’t produce oil and what not (which is why they invaded the pacific) and any fuel or ammunition destroyed hastened the end of the war (and 80% of their oil came from us until the embargo)
@anzaca1
@anzaca1 Месяц назад
Most of their oil was coming from Sumatra, I believe. It got so desperate that they designed a flying tanker truck, that had to burn 80% of it's fuel cargo just to reach Japan.

Highly recommend his Lewis Millet video. Man heard the Korean propagandists claim that American troops were afraid to engage in close quarters combat (only because USA had more bullets and typically mowed em down before the enemy got close enough to engage in cqc lol), so Millet said “fix bayonets” and charged multiple times in different engagements

Just 3 days after Pearl Harbor, Japan sunk the battleship HMS Prince of Wales and battlecruiser Repulse. (Keep in mind the Prince of Wales helped sink the Bismarck a little over a year prior) in under 2 hours with aircraft proving the Battleship no longer ruled the waves
@mapleflag6518

And the Bismarck was done in by swordfish torpedo bombers destroying the ships rudder which prevented the ship from returning to port.

In my opinion (as someone who is not in any active military service) in terms of Joe Sarnoski bombing the Japanese Navy ammo and fuel instead of the Officers, I’d say those were much greater targets by value. Putting the innocent Gaicha Girls aside, sure you could kill those officers, but it’s leadership and someone would fill in those spots. Killing the ammo and fuel though, those Japanese Officers still alive are worth much less because what’s the point of them and the orders they give if their fleet can’t attack, let alone get there to do any attacking? It makes them look bad and humiliated, and it buys better time by keeping Japanese Navy forces more at bay so the European theater can wrap up. Also side note; something that I don’t think was mentioned by Fat Electrician was the history of the plane Old 666 itself BEFORE the Eager Beavers being something like it had a reputation of always “getting shot to hell” both literally and figuratively, yet somehow always managing to get back to base or somewhere just full of holes. (If I’m remembering correctly)
@brothersgt.grauwolff6716
@brothersgt.grauwolff6716 2 месяца назад
destroying fuel & ammo hinders the enemy far more effectively than killing off officers & generals because in the eyes of the enemy your making mayrters of those generals and the collateral damage of civilians doesn't help either
@loftiestchaf423
@loftiestchaf423 2 месяца назад
I completely agree with your take on not bombing high ranking officials. On a strategic note, killing a good officer, only if he gets replaced by a bad/incompetent officer, could spill ruin for the entire army. look at the Soviets when the Germans invaded, despite any advantage the USSR had, Stalin had cut out so many leaders during his purges, and in the beginning of the war, they were completely unable to hold their own until people like Zhukov, come around to help organize the military (he was later dismissed and called useless by Stalin because he didn't allow himself to get encircled, but that's a different story). Stalin is also a good example of a poor leader in my opinion, too many soldiers and civilians died by his orders, it's hard to call a 1:4 KD ratio an actual victory. Another example could be the Hannibal crisis Rome had endured. Basically, there is reason to target high ranking officers, but yeah, NEVER involve innocent people when targeting them, not a good thing to do.
@sonofjack6286
@sonofjack6286 2 месяца назад
My thought exactly. Officers can be trained and replaced. Ammo and fuel are things that can hinder an enemy's capability in the long term if destroyed and will make the captains, commodores, and admirals of the Japanese Navy be focused on maintaining their supplies, which means less attacks and actions that could threaten vital American Navy detachments, bases, supply lines, and support the defense of their Japanese equivalents. Personally, I think Sarnoski's officers were too prideful to admit they missed those objectives, and punished him in the aftermath to feel better about themselves.

you missed the soviet union. they killed between 19 -26 millions and imprisoned in gulags over 40 mln (real number was never reported) with ultra small percentage surviving. they killed more than Japanese Empire and weren't on trial for that as they were on winning side.

I'd say we in Europe know quite a lot about the Pacific front and war with Japan, it's just that for us here, they weren't a threat as much as Germans were so the importance of these two is vastly different because of proximity of threat. But I still admit that Japanese were extremely brutal, in many cases even worst, than Germans.
