Awesome video! Isn't there quality lost when you transcode? Wouldn't it be best to always create proxies instead and then just relink to the original footage? Also what do you do with the original footage once you've transcoded?
Yes there can be, so it depends on your source format. H264 flavors are fine converting to prores or dnxhd flavors. Anything that is raw or log should definitely use proxies. Great catch!
You can transcode raw footage for use in a proxy workflow. Just remember that after it’s transcoded, you won’t be able to adjust its color properties. If you’re reconnecting later for color correction, then no worries.
