The inner courtyards of Cordoba, the so-called patios

Patio-urile sunt acele mici curți interioare cu o mică fântână la mijloc în jurul cărora e ridicată locuința. Așa-și construiau romanii casele, așa le-au preluat maurii, așa au rămas până în zilele noastre. Balcoanele, grilajele si peretii caselor sunt impodobite cu vegetatie ornamentala si florala de diferite culori.
In luna mai are loc fiesta locală, El Festival de los Patios Cordobeses. Cu acest prilej se organizează un concurs ce desemnează cea mai frumos împodobită patio iar cordobanii permit vizitatorilor obișnuiți să le treacă pragul pentru a le admira munca.
Patios are those small inner courtyards with a small fountain in the middle around which the dwelling is built. This is how the Romans built their houses, this is how the Moors took them over, this is how they have remained until today. The balconies, grills and walls of the houses are decorated with ornamental and floral vegetation of different colors.
In May, the local fiesta takes place, El Festival de los Patios Cordobeses. On this occasion, a contest is organized to designate the most beautifully decorated patio and the cordobans allow regular visitors to cross their threshold to admire their work.
