The response to this video has been huge. One of our biggest videos ever. We worked our ass off on these animations. Big shout out to Mike and Eli, our stellar animators. Also big thanks to Curiosity Stream, without them we simple would not have the budget to make something this ambitious. If you liked this video, you will love that Armstrong documentary on CS. It gives me some serious goals to work towards. Packed with information and beautiful story telling.

What I really wonder though: If it's just shut down because it has no way of getting power, then when humans get to Mars and find it and brush off its solar panels, will it boot up again? What will it do? What kind of damage will there be? It would be impressive if it just had paint scratches and dead batteries.
@colejohnson4941
@colejohnson4941 3 года назад
@@thewhitefalcon8539 The batteries will certainly be useless and I suspect the flash memory will be as well (although the flash memory was already in a terrible state.) Oppy uses some nuclear-based heaters so the electronics will always be at least somewhat warmer than the surrounding atmosphere so they might just work after a decade or two. In The Martian (both book and movie) Watney was able to get Pathfinder working with just a power source and a portable heater and I've never seen anyone claim that was unrealistic. JPL designs those things to be practically indestructible after all.

I still can’t believe that there will probably be people on Mars by 2050. My mind is blown.
@InfamoussDBZ
@InfamoussDBZ 3 года назад
I hope by 2050, but I think it's going to be a 100 years before we land on Mars. Working out a redundant system for three hundred thousand different routines is going to take alot of time. There's no hurry to get there. We're at the point in history, I believe, where we get to witness NASA construct a new space station that orbits the moon, and several moon landings. I'm 38 years old. I've never seen a man land on the moon. That's pretty cool.

NASA has 7 landings on Mars while ESA has zero. The last ESA attempt failed because of a malfunctioning elevation instrument. I would hope to hear that ESA has a couple of successful landings before they attempt to send a rover to retrieve the soil samples.
