Something I find funny is that the American civil war is a rebellion (a nation wanting to become independent) and the taiping rebellion is a civil war (two groups fighting to take control of one nation) it’s a little forced but I find cool.

Imagine what would have happened to the UK if it had supported the Confederacy and the Taiping instead of the US and the Qing Dynasty who in the end still lost. How would it affect her image in the US and China ? and more importantly, how would it affect her interests and herself?
Confederates would make a useful proxy, but them being pro Slavery would hurt the image of Parliament after spending so long pushing abolishing slavery. That was ultimately the biggest hang up the CSA had.
