As a previous metalhead that turned to hip hop and house music later in life WLR was something that I had no idea I needed in my life but I actually did.
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Welcome too the OO gang!!! I think your comment alone speaks volumes for Carti. Coming from someone who’s been a fan of his since the begin ❤
the time between die lit and wlr was just different, leakers, finstas, cryptic posts, carti affiliates, lq snippets, "wlr dropping this friday" theories every week, the start of the vamp era, i was so obsessed with this esoteric, cultish, goth punk, obscure lo-fi aesthetic created by this super tight knit community in equal parts to carti. this online rabbit hole of threads and scraps of info on carti, with a leaked song or video every so often that was completely different to anything i'd seen before. the post wlr years have been fun, but the fanbase is so different now
You can feel that ye had a big impact on the album as executive producer. Rushed, unfinished and hated on release describes 50% of kanyes albums, and yet turning into a cultural phenomenon that influences the next wave of artists is another hallmark of a ye creation. Hope all artists realise that being polarising will always be better than being dispassionate. "art that sells is rarely the art that lasts" is a fitting statement to end the video on.
@@duskzephyr2842 tlop, ye, jik and donda were all called rushed and unfinished on release, yeezus, 808s and to some extent college dropout and graduation were hated on release for going against what was expected of a rap album. But just like wlr, every one of them eventually reached a level of cultural appreciation that would never have been reached if ye did what was expected of him. Im not saying kanyes music is bad, because it obviously isn't, im saying that a lot of kanyes music, especially recently, has been hated on and called rushed, and then a few years later its looked back on as a classic.
@@billhoult3262 minus college dropout - and late registration because those are more traditional soul they weren’t hated at release and will never be hated due to the fact those are the only 2 albums true hip hop fans love from him either they like him or not now with the other albums that’s where the mixy critics come in because that’s when he started dabbling in other sounds and shit 💯
@@jaychulo.F nah there was hate on college dropout and late registration too, all the old heads saying he wasnt a real rapper cos he wasnt in a gang and didnt dress like any other rappers. Kanye was the symbolic death of gangsta rap and rap fans and gangsta rappers didnt like that. Other rappers might have been making songs over similar beats to ye, especially after the blueprint, but their personalities and lyrical content was massively different. The delivery on college dropout especially sounds so different to every other rap record in the early 2000s. The opinion on it wasnt nearly as split as albums like 808s and yeezus, but he had hella haters at the start.
I hate how in most Carti documentaries, we rarely get to hear about Awful Records Carti and his SoundCloud era, we hear more about AWGE era Carti than anything else
yeah he skipped the whole Cash Carti era but honestly at this point Carti mythology is so huge people aren't going to talk about everything anymore. Same reason he doesn't perform his old songs much at all.
Probably cuz It’s not the greatest look for carti. He used the rest of splur gang as a stepping stone. He stole their sound, mainly uno and basically backstabbed them. All they were props. Without splur gang carti wouldn’t be here yet he completely fucked them over. He is and always will be a terrible person but that’s one of his worst moments 😭
There are a few new snippets from 2021 - 2022 and one 2023. Rockstar snippet was recorded sometime in 2023 and previewed right b4 a rolling loud show. This shows his deep voice on a F1LTHY beat like something from WLR. He has a snippet called ‘All Red’ recorded in 2022 which shows him doing a future inspired deep voice. He has another 2021 snippet called “Funds”
I admire how well spoken you are. I went to the NY show and it was insane, but you should’ve seen the energy at the shows where he had the pyramid stage. It almost felt like the crowd was possessed!
@@simonh1987 you did the right thing. Once you get scared, you turn to the light. And you look back and can see just how many signs there were that somethin dark was going on.
For me IGOR, WLR and the whole saga behind it marked the most important periods of my life, and their different sound somehow helped me to go throught necessary changes, to be authentic, and learn to let go of what I once believed in.
i've seen carti twice, and am seeing him twice again this summer, and i will say his set at summer smash last year was legit surreal, it felt like a dream and i'll never forget it. legend fr
I remember at summer smash when oji was doing the outro to sky and carti was whispering “breathe” then all of sudden I felt a gust of wind. Shit was crazy
Yeah the production quality of the visuals keep getting better and better. I used to not really watch the entire time I'm playing a video, I just listen to it while I do other stuff, now I have to replay it to see the visuals I missed.
This man just put everything that I feel has been wrong with modern hip hop and r&b music in the past 3 years into a well executed 33 min vid. As a lifetime fan of these genres, I think that the only way to push music forward will always be to create your own sound, to go against the grain in whatever way you can, as long as it is authentic. Shout out jordan carter
Somehow, a album with awful composition like Whole Lotta Red managed to become a landmark and culture chager in music. The path from disliking it with passion, to finding it iconic and unique like I do now was one of the best things that happened to me as a listener.
please don’t take this the wrong way, but you might be the youtuber with the wildest ratio of Quality : Views i’ve ever seen. like your videos are among the best on the platform and the view counts don’t reflect it even A LITTLE bit. if you were a niche knitting channel or whatever i’d kinda get it.. but the topics you cover are literally ultra mainstream with huge potential audiences. had i not seen the view count of your vids i’d expect them to be in the 5-10M per vid range. i hope this doesn’t come across the wrong way but channels like yours are the reason i’m so blackpilled and will almost certainly never try and start a youtube. like walking into your local 5-a-side football pitch and finding an adult who plays like a professional footballer but for whatever reason just never managed to get scouted, it’s utterly baffling. this content creation stuff isn’t fair and i hope one day you get the smoke you deserve dude.
Yh I’m genuinely surprised how that just got completely missed because that had a lot of shit to do with it for it to be glossed over especially in a 35 min video
Everything you said between 22:48-26:00 is so true and something I've been thinking about a lot recently. Music really seems to just come and go with no cultural impact anymore, regardless of how good it is. I also find it a bit worrying how the artists at the top right now are still the same ones that were doing it 10+ years ago. No one is rivalling them, meaning they can just chill and release mediocre music knowing they'll get huge numbers from it anyway. The 2020s doesn't really feel like its own era of hip hop and more just a shell of what the 2010s was. Carti's one of the few artists actually progressing the genre and doing something memorable, love it or hate it.
In 2021, when I was 18, I went to my first concert(s) ever. I saw Phoebe Bridgers in September and thought to myself, I wish more people were moving to the songs, almost everyone was still. In November, I went to the King Vamp tour in Milwaukee, and was pretty close to the stage. A Spotify playlist of songs were playing, ofc they were trap/souncloud rap songs that had been popular from 2016 up until that point. It was quite literally a medley of songs from my youth that I never got to see live, such as Juice Wrld and X. As the songs got more rage-ier, the more the crowd got rowdy, and for the first time in my life, I thought I was about to be crushed to death, but I loved it. Unfortunately, Carti wasn’t at venue, from what I heard he wasn’t even in the state. Dec. 11th was the rescheduled date and I was there. For about an hour, I had the most chaotic and fun time of my life. I was always in the pit every other song as I got tired pretty quickly from pushing/shoving like an idiot. I even bumped into a girl who was on the outside of the pit, but I quickly apologized. When the concert ended, I was hoping he would come back out for an encore, but he never did. I liked it more than the Phoebe show, respectfully.
WLR is special. My favorite album to come out of the 2020s. Literally invented a new genre, its like the trap answer to what numetal was for regular rap. A whole live show lane is going to evolve out of this. Mixing trap drums with metal or punk guitar. Imagine a future with Rapper / Guitarist duo's operating with the teamwork of Run the Jewels or something, developing this rage genre in tandem with producers.
rap needs to jump over the boundaries of different genres. i need the scream growl vocals on rap songs so bad. Dark voices were always the best for me coming from a metalhead since 2010. jumped from rap 02 to metal 08 stopped with rap til 2015 and listened both. Added different music genres to my list over the years even japan music
the song at 30:48 is called anointed by lil unky. it has nothing to do w carti and has also been released for 2 months. there's also a snippet of molly that's j a fanmade remix of molly edit: there's also multiple real snippets of narcissist & music era carti out there, they're just kinda lowkey. his "new" voice is heard on mr miyagi by kanye from donda 2.
@@Jagsterarea51 don't think bro did hella research if he didn't know there were real 2021-2023 snippets out at the time of making the video (i'm a carti diehard excuse me being an asshole)
im pretty sure Kid Cudi isnt a WLR leak. Its a leak for a song originally made by Young Nudy for his mixtape Sil'merre or whatever its called. It only got leaked when Carti was featured on the track later.
All love but whenever I hear Carti come on all I think about is him falling right off the damn stage that one time and getting back up to resume the show 😂
@@tellthetroops you could tell throughout the entire video he was fishing for Carti fans to view this. He said nothing new, made up lies about leaks and features. Smh we gotta stop giving these niggas views on some B.S
Carti is creating a whole new era of music where trap meets punk rock. Its more about how the beat & music makes you feel vs what he has to say with his lyrics
I remember i used to hate on carti because he wasnt lyrical enough for me but after i gave die lit a chance my opinion of him change. Now hes my favorite artist at the moment
That shot at Kendrick was crazy mr morale and the big steppers is an incredible album. Songs like united in grief and mother I sober are the farthest things from generic and corporate friendly.
If carti's new album is produced anything like Utopia's production, it will absolutely drop a bomb on music in general. He's the only person that can match Travis scott and Kanye west.
The animations in the recent videos are so good. Your video narrations were already always good but the recent visuals really upped the production quality level. I have to admit as a 41yo, when I first heard Playboy Carti's music, I got a headache and thought this is what the neurology scientific articles always say, when you're older, you will start to no longer appreciate new /young people's music. I felt old when I watched your Kanye album tier list video. I was already in my late 20s when that College series of albums came out - the old ones with Jesus Walks and All Falls Down etc. 😂 But after listening to your explanation, I sort of appreciated his music a bit, at least the ones accompanying your explanation. (Playboy Carti)
Just made me fall in love with Playboi Carti all over again. Volksgeist always comes out with the most fye analysis on the internet. This man >>>> mfs like Fantano
I haven’t finished the video but you forgot Fetti w maxokream and father really helped him come up too. His involvement with Awful Records and Ethereal was pivotal for his come up!!!!
Some people might find a Jack Harlow show transcendent and unique. It’s all based on perception and tastes. There’s many artists people dislike that have fans who adore their performances.
i have loved WLR since its release and i really cant wait to see where carti goes next! WLR was exactly what i wanted from carti even though i loved the psychedelic minimalism on his first 2 projects i kept going he keeps playing into this rockstar image i really want him to get in that bag and make really hard disguising sounding music and i'm glad he finally did it!
Man, I remember February 2021 by me starting my job, and then banging my freaking head off to this album every night. I knew someday this record would be regarded as a cultural smash, and it’s cool to know how apparently I wasn’t the only one who felt this way
Год назад
the album didn‘t come out until december what are you talking about february 2020
I hate how they always completely skip over Ethereal and Awful Records when they talk about Cartis history. You cannot dismiss AWFUL RECORDS in his story.
i never comment on youtube videos, the editing on the weeknd and this carti video is the craziest thing i seen. awesome to see videos made on my favorite r&b singer and favorite rapper
Only two critiques is not speaking on Awful Records before he got discovered by Ian Connor and Bari and also Earfquake appears on Igor and during the snippet it said “Call me if you get lost track two”. Video was so good tho I didn’t notice till later.
Yh some song snippets and labels in this video are a little bit under researched like how “molly” the best used was a remix of another thing so technically it wasn’t an actual leak in the same way
@@eaAngelmusic right. I wish more videos went in depth into the “leak era” . It’s so important to me since we have a whole year of no official solo Carti work and his sound changes during that time
Coming from someone who’s been a fan since the beginning ❤ I’ve been waiting on someone to do a video like this 🙏🏾 I was seriously thinking of doing one. A big FACT you put in this video is Cartis music will be around for many many many years. I’ve been saying this even when people were saying other wise. I’ve always liked different and outside of the box. Cartis a 1 of 1 and NOBODY compares. He seriously inspired a whole generation of new music, but there will never be no to do it like him.❤️🔥❤️🔥 He’s not like your everyday industry rapper and I love that from him. Even in his earlier days when the world 🌎 started recognizing him he’s always had that dark/rock rap side in him at his live shows. He just showed it a little at a time. People didn’t realize it then probably still don’t but I had someone ask me why do I love him so much and how have I been rocking wit him this long when he doesn’t drop like everyone else. My exact words was…”When you make music like he did with “Whole Lotta Red” 🩸🩸there’s no reason too rush and drop” because if your a true fan your gonna turn that 💩 up like he just dropped it for the first time. I knew this album would grow on ppl and it’s doing just that!!! Not one time on any of my S.M accounts have I EVER dissed anything about Carti. I have joked wit the fan pages but NEVER dissed. Greatest can’t be rushed and shouldn’t be rushed. 🙏🏾🔥 I do remember him saying he felt like he should dumb down his music but I have and will always be against him doing that. Everyone will catch up eventually and that’s what’s going to keep him relevant and around for along time because he’s way ahead of time and for that and many other reason I’m locked 🔒 in 4L ❤️🔥🩸🩸🧛🧛♀️
