While agreeing with the panels view of Green Party policy I take issue with the views expressed about heat pumps. My system works superbly and is powered by the electricity produced by the solar panels on my roof. Don’t think I am some sort of eco warrior, the green systems have been installed to save me money and are on track for a break even seven years after installation with a predicted life of twenty years. My motivation for investing in green technology was not some sort of green crusade it was about the large amount of cash I can save.

I'm yet to meet a green that isn't stark raving mad, so far away from reality it's an embarrassment.

Grew up with limited hot water, an outside loo, coal fires and frost on the inside of every window every winter day. No way am I going back to that at over 60.

I've just had an election leaflet through my door from my local Green candidate. Most tend to campaign on local issues but third on their list of five things they want to achieve is 'Back an immediate ceasefire in Israel & Gaza'. This is for a rural constituency in southern England, utterly bizarre.

Met a Green canvasser, who banged on about the persecution of trans people and the Palestinians. Said nothing about the environment.

The Green Party believed that the electorate had every right to have a vote on staying in the EU or not. When the result was in they did everything they could to overturn the result.

Imposing them ? Like Ulez, LTC and 15 minute cities via state backed extortion rackets ?

You dont remember get dressed under the bed covers, if you were lucky you might even have an electrci blanket before they got banned. You dont rememebr fighting with siblings about who gets to lay in front of the fire if you had a telly to watch and something worth watching ? You dont remember a time before the age of double glazing was even a twinkling in someones eye, where the more ingenious decided to try perspex screens over the windows ? You dont remember when people wore pyjamas in bed because it wasnt optional ?

Central heating only fitted in our house in 1981. My youth of paraffin heaters and shivering. Put the Greens in a 1960s house and get them to show us first how its done.

I'm in my 50s and i've never lived in a house with central heating, it's always the people with no idea how comfortable their lives are that have a rose-tinted view of life before modern comforts. Winter is a nightmare without central heating, I honestly thank god every time we have a mild winter.

I don't remember in wich country in Europe they calls them the "Watermelon Party", because they're green on the outside and red on the inside. But since they're advocating for massive migration from muslim countries, and traditionally the green is the color of the islamists and the political islam, they might also become a islamist party

The Australian Greens are led by a nasty piece of work. He joined the Greens out of pure self-interest, after first describing them as a "bourgeoise" party. His PhD thesis title is "Work to Rule: Rethinking Marx, Pashukanis and Law". He has restricted access to his thesis, which goes against the whole point of academia. The acquiescence of the university to this request shows how poor an institution it is. By comparison, his rhetoric makes Marx look like a centrist, and Jeremy Corbyn look like a strong friend of the Jewish people.

Grew up with no boiler, no heating, no hot water, no bathroom/shower... Mum used to take us to visit my aunt, who lived in a council flat to use her bath. Now I can't live without this stuff.

Greens in Australia have many wonderful ideas that look like they're straight out of Enid Blyton. I've never seen anything about how they propose to pay for anything, though.

Thje Greens in Scotland are largly responsable for the end of the SNP and all sides should keep that in mind. Hint, I am not talking so much about the green issues, it's all the other maniacs that they attract.

As a Physics graduate I've always been sceptical about heat pumps. They look like they're breaking the Second Law of Thermodynamics, or even making a sort of perpetual motion machine possible. (You use a heat pump to charge up a heat reservoir, then you use that reservoir to run a heat engine that powers the heat pump! Ought to work, right?) Of course, it doesn't. But as far as I can make out, there is only a narrow range of differences between inside and outside temperature where a heat pump makes sense. Go outside of that range, and you're either not saving money, or actively losing it. And for this you've bought an expensive and cranky piece of equipment, when you could just as easily have had a three bar electric fire...

How has it become accepted that CO2 is a pollutant ? It is colourless,odourless and inert. It is vital for all life on earth. In the past it has been present in massively higher concentrations than its present 0.04% ( YES, 4 PARTS / 10,000 ) . Climate is and always has been cyclical and if the present warming phase continues we will need more reliable affordable fossil fuels not less, till we enter another cooling phase.

Heat pumps may work in warmer climates, not in England...

I always voted green thought they were good people and a decent alternative to the main parties. But oh dear, what on earth has possessed them? I watched the green guy on Question time, he said he'd put 30%on chinese imports, smart guy (not) we import all our solar panels from China, so he's basically said he's gonna put 30% on the green electric that's ineffective, expensive, and not actually viable.....what a joke... My neighbours are happy to advertise they vote Green. They live in a new four bedroom house. They have three children, the oldest of who is, of course, "non binary". He works as a teacher. All of them look like they need to be sandblasted clean. They drive two cars and have, "Free Palestine" flags on the front of the house. They may as well be a set set of cartoon characters. Luxury activism.

I have never entertained the "Greens". They are as useful to me as the greens served up to me on my dinner plate - I studiously avoid them all (apart from broccoli, peas and beans!) They have always seemed to me, to be varying levels of lunatics - unhinged and dare I say it, "cult-like".

I was walking to work during the very hight of covid, i worked in a food factory so i was a essential worker, anyway id done the walk maybe 200 times now, 9/5 so always dark and as im walking i was at the side of a motorway, 10/15 minutes from the closest public place, a man walking in a suit, a dirty grey beard and a actual walking cane comes swagging down the road (no idea where from because the only thing the way he came from is my work) he starts talking to me about random stuff which i cba to listen to so i say ive got worl and got to go then he hits me with the "who are you voting for" so hearing this it got my attention because now i know hes out here doing Something and wants peoples attention, in short after talking to him for 5 minutes i worked out he was a green party rep, didnt understand the whole covid thing, didnt understand how to actually make the country "green" and was basically just doing it because he was retired and bored, all in all, thats 2 more reasons than our current prime minister and most of our past ones so all in all they get my vote, joking but really the green party are just a hunch of OAPs that are bored and think they know whats best

I've voted 'green party' not because I'm down with it but to dash their hopes when they lose a vote the next election. Like losing a subsciber.

The important question to ask is what do we agree on? Should we all be making an effort to lower carbon footprint or not? First be sure of the truth before entering political discourse.

These three people express the view that we dont want to change our way of life. We want to carry on with the same energy use as previous decades. But they dont address the crucial question. Is climate change happening? Hikers dying in Greece (because they are foolish enough not to know that you cannot hike in temperatures over 40 degrees), floods like the one that flooded one third of Pakistan a few years ago...is this real? Because if it is, harking back to the halcyon days of snow in winter and pleasant cool summers here in the UK, will not realky help us.

if these heat pump things are more reliable than gas boilers bring em on. Boilers are so unreliable - mines buggered again. Only put it in like 2 yrs ago, had to replace the old one that was f'ked. The most unreliable machines Ive ever known.

Jesus Christ folks. Heat pumps work for some properties and are cheap to run and keep a house warm. Obviously you’ll need gas boilers in other places. We need to be seen to argue against a policy position without coming across as incompetent idiots. Work to do here troops.

What the greens don’t understand is the state is designed to serve the interests of capital and isn’t designed to carry out decarbonisation, as in less energy and resources consumed instead of more. ‘Green’ energy does have lots of positives, but it’s ultimately a contradiction in term.

Moved into an older property renovated with a heat pump and although we get good hot water on cold winter days it really struggles. Also learnt as well how long it would take to warm up and heat the house. Wish i could get rid of it and have a gas boiler but no mains gas leads to the property.

Unfortunately the Labour Party is as rabidly green as the Green Party.

Why this hostility to heat pumps? I had one installed a few years ago, and it's great, especially when I use it in the summer as a dehumidifier and an air conditioner.

Left and right only form that "circle" in respect of their authoritarianism. The content of their views is still vastly different.

Heat pumps are a lie. They cost a lot more and need more maintenance as they are more complex than a mere AC and so have a tendency to break more often. However regardless of that even if one does not break down it takes about 7 to 10 years to break even depending on what climate you live under. Teh colder the longer it takes. No one talks about that. They just sell you the fact that electricity will be cheaper and yes that is true but then you forget about the higher cost of the unit itself. In the end if you live in an area with a mild short winters then its almost worth it however any colder climates and you only start saving money after almost a decade. So be careful when buying a heat pump. Most probably it is not worth it. You are better off investing in better insulation and windows for your house. That always pays off!
