Hang in there. I think many of us have had some dark days. Mine was 15 years ago, fortunately I got some help and allowed time to heal me a bit. I wish you all the best. Take care
Wow, Pam willed him off that mountain. She's an angel. I love that everyone - from Pam to the producer, treated John with dignity and compassion. Great story. The true ones often are. 🌹
I met Pam, casually, walking around Echo Lake (Franconia) 10+ years ago. She invigorated me with her hiking passion and passion for the NEW HAMPSHIRE's White Mountains. She told me about Steve Smith and his book store in Lincoln, The Mountain Wanderer. At the time, she had the appearance of one of those old, robust women with gray hair and a scrappy physique every woman her age (and younger) wishes they had. She exuded happiness and I connected that to the White Mountains. I was so stoked when I learned about this rescue. She's a true White Mountains legend.
People who have never been to Mt Washington have no clue as to how fast the weather can turn there, and how violent it can get. Sad that the filmmakers didn't actually show the real terrain of Mt Washington, and instead chose a mountainous are that is nothing like the Mt Washington area.
It's kinda BS it's based on Mt Washington yet wasn't even filmed in New Hampshire. Like.....? And John, if you ever see this, I hope you're well buddy. You're worth it. 💜
It was not a big budget movie and filming on Mount Washington would be brutal. Mostly because it was much cheaper. As someone who spends a lot of time in the Whites I agree it would have been much better if it had been filmed in the Whites. As we know the weather can be very brutal.
The media never tells the public about the hundreds of thousands of suicides, or overdoses in this country. Murders are more entertaining, which brings in the viewers and money.
It's all about the cost of doing business. If the movie was shot here in the states they would have to hire union technicians, camera, sound and lighting. The movie was likely made on a tight budget.
Hopefully, John got some help after this. Wonderful that Pam got recognition for her heroism. I wonder if they filmed overseas to save money and other hassles with permits.
Bought the DVD. Filmed in Slovenia ( I think), the mountains they show are NOTHING like the White Mountains. The movie was OK, but not great or gripping at all. Too bad - it could have been a great rescue movie.
I responded to another person with that comment. It's all about the cost of doing business. This was a low budget film. There were no major stars in it. They were lucky they even got it made.
