I have one of these and I never knew what the goal of the puzzle was before. Thanks ... It's still a challenge after watching answer.

This is a puzzle often used in the reality show Survivor. It's made slightly more difficult by making the cubes 2.5 feet tall and of significant weight making any attempt at brute force take actual brute force.

He's just so likeable and innocent

The way I tried (unsuccessfully) doing this puzzle is counting the coulors and then just eliminating the extras so I'd only be left with 4 on each visible side. I then just played around with them, should have thought about it more I guess, also I found it easier to look at all sides by not putting them in the case but just making a tower that I could easily spin.

I love your videos! I really like that you didn't show the correct way to the solution immediately, but showed how to back up if it doesn't work right away.

I found this channel 3 videos ago, and I already want every single puzzle he has

Got this puzzle in a cereal box in 1970, when I was eight years old. In 1980, I wrote a FORTRAN program to solve it with brute force (6X4)^4 = 331776 permutations. Handed my PUNCH CARDS to my college's mainframe computer operator, and picked up my form-feed printout later. It had timed out without a solution in 5 seconds of CPU time (the maximum allowed, LOL). A few years later I bugged my girlfriend in university to use her computer time. She entered the code on a terminal, and picked up the printout. It took 35 CPU seconds, and it was solved. She chewed me out because that was 1/3 of the total time allowed for her entire computer science semester! But I was was HAPPY.

A busy bee who just got time to start watching videos speaking here. No mater what you do to each piece, you will always have a block of some random color. Additionally, if you perform the same move repetitively, you will eventually reach your initial color. That means this puzzle can be represented using math's permutation group. The rubik's cube is also a puzzle that can be represented with a permutation group. A lot of math clubs will hold some form of a lecture/seminar of permutation groups using a rubik's cube.

ditch the holder until you've solved it 'freehand',then place the cubes at the last move...it'll save so much time

4:32 GR-BY-RB-YG and YG-GR-BY-RB works. I first eliminated the GG and YY sides, as they resulted in no possible combinations. That left me only 4 possibilities with the last two cubes, and since GY wasn't on both of the prior cubes, you could eliminate both of the last two cubes having RB, which meant you had the combinations of YB-RB, and RB-GY to work with for the last two cubes. Much simpler than trying to work out all the possible combinations, you now have two greens, a yellow, and a red on the first two cubes, and also one of each color on the first two cubes.

i figured out the puzzle at 3 mins in there are 4 colours on each cube and 6 sides each cube has 1 of each colour except one of those colours it has 3 of so you find the 2 sides that are oposite of each otehr and the same colour on each cube and make those sides the sies that are not seen then arange the cubes from there

just wondering what program you used to make your intro, its great

The Instant Insanity exists for android under the name IQ'biki. This is more hard because each app start the cubes have a new coloring and you can choose level of difficult. RU-vid has an example iq'biki.

Just wanted to say that instant insanity is not the same as what they used in the survivor show. Same idea but the survivor one is made with easier color palets. It would otherwise be to difficult.

I'm a bit confused; you said that the orientation wasn't important, but then went on to say that what was important was the "color pairs." What I find conusing to that is that it seems to me that the orientation (at least in this puzzle) is inextricably linked to the orientation because the orientation decides which color pair is visible. In fact, this is why you had to take the cubes out and reorient them; is it not?
