I could have sworn that you reviewed this previously. I saw it at the thrift and passed it by. These kind of stories just piss me off. The public school I went to was more like an institute. I don't need to revisit that. It was a football institute.
I very much enjoyed the way this genuinely suspenseful story unfolded. Even better, King, often criticized for weak endings, delivered a slam-bang one here. The situation reminded me of Desperation, where the author throws a group of people in the middle of the damnedest mess, all fighting a common enemy.
To me, it seemed like he was kind of phoning it in on this one. I read it a few years ago and can't even remember that much about it. It was kind of a somewhat enjoyable time waster, like the kind of thing you read on a long flight just to distract yourself. All I remember about it was that there seemed to be a lot of plot mechanics in the second half, which I think is what King does when he's just padding the page count to get another product out the door. It wasn't the worst thing ever, but I wasn't that impressed with it. He's written better.
