A nice example of this is drug metabolism, which can also be characterized using zero- and first-order kinetics. Most drugs are first-order eliminated, resulting in a constant fraction remaining per unit time, and characterized by a half-life. Alcohol is one of those drugs with zero-order kinetics, where a constant amount is metabolized per unit of time, like in the approximation of "one drink per hour".
