as a late artist, I believe that a “soft” aproach to the art that moves me keeps the amazement intact, to be absorbed by the “skin” into my art. No need to be an art historian. Just an approach through sensibility can turn into creativity….
Personally I love Cy Twombly but its always entertaining to listen to the haters, and there are so many, rant on and on about his work being illegitimate ,they are so passionate about denouncing his genius with such conviction ❤
Haters in art al always entertaining. The beauty of art is there is something for everyone. I choose not to hate, to find out why I dislike something by studying the artist I dislike and figuring out if there are really specific reasons why I dislike the work and I may learn something new, even if I still dislike it in the end:)
I was late to discover (2011) the magic essence that is Cy Twombly. His approach and appreciation of marks and the history of them was so absolutely paralelled with how i practiced back in the early 90s. I havent painted for close to 10yrs and after watching your podcast am seriously considering getting rid of the furniture to replacing them with all the easles which are simply holding prior expressions (as i have few walls in my small warehouse). I really love your discussions, thank you and keep it up. 👍
Do it! There is never a better time than now to start again, even if it is in little bits of time. Start in small chunks of time and build up! GO GO GO!
For me, Twombly is neither a master nor a chump, just someone whose work has always interested me. What is poetry? A contradictory form of elegance; earnest, yet playful, very considered, yet very light. Elevating Twombly actually diminishes the work, and vice versa. That's not its spirit.
Cy is one the greatest artists too , İ don t know why so much haters he has? Other great artists like Pollock, De Kooning etc dont have such haters as he
