I just can’t believe they managed to make a Starfleet ship look scary… it’s an ordinary Starfleet ship, but knowing that it’s not on your side, and slowly rises up again to shot at you, is very scary

It just hit me that this is the number one reason Picard S3 is so awesome - compared to the 'newer' Star Trek movies. It has real drama - not explosions left and right and HUUUUUGE plot holes. The newer movies just let us all down IMO. This makes up for it. Whoever did the writing here needs to continue....it is the only way they will keep us united as the Star Trek family that we are. In summary: The newer Star Trek movies are utter crap. Picard Season 3 is the new gold standard that we are begging for from this point on.

The nacelle being on fire in space I can roll with, as I have no idea what warp coils are made of, or what is in warp plasma. But smoke rising out of it in zero gravity, instead of fanning out in all directions evenly if you are going to take that route? Nah!!
@jonathansullivan6706
@jonathansullivan6706 Год назад
@@nolanwhite1876 The warp coils are, as I understand, made of an incredibly dense and heavy tungsten alloy. Plasma is, well, plasma. In this case, the ionized biproduct of deuterium and its antimatter counterpart, which are hydrogen isotopes that when mixed, mutually annihilate releasing plasma and gamma radiation (hence why photon torpedoes are named as they are, incidentally, as gamma radiation is comprised of high energy photons.) A plasma fire in space is certainly possible since it doesn't need oxygen to burn, though the rising effect is most likely a stylistic byproduct of most Sci Fi shows depicting space in two dimensions. I suppose if you really wanted to make up an explanation, that may simply be the direction in which the plasma most easily flows out of the nacelle based on its internal geometry.

This scene was amazing because it did "less is more" to create something frightening, instead of gratuitous violence or evil laughter. Not only is it a callback to Wrath of Khan where you know something bad is going to happen, we never get a visual on whoever's in charge. And as it is, the enemy is figuratively and literally faceless, and only wishing for destruction. Add in to the fact that a lot of the Titan crew is now there, and the show at that point didn't really say anything about what's happening on the ship, you're forced to use your imagination to think about what's going on. And none of it can be any good. Now you know why Ro was so scared.

If they fire on the Titan with Admiral Picard aboard, whether or not the Changelings have completely infiltrated Starfleet's Command and Control and High Command, they could start a Civil War. He has that kind of a profile, not to mention we all there are people out there like Ro who would go down shooting rather than ever believe he hand his crew have turned traitor. Unless that's the Changelings intent... Also, the Intrepid just lost a warp nacelle to a shuttlecraft ramming it, which has to have done catastrophic damage to the system. That looks a lot like plasma and coolant spraying into space, no matter damage control efforts. Engaging Titan in combat under those circumstances spells utter destruction, IF Captain Shaw finally realises that the Federation is so completely corrupted that physical conflict is the only way out...

The angry ship bit fits. It does seem that is one pissed off ship!

I like how the Intrepid is staring down the Titan like the Shrike was from a higher position

Seriously! This is a great shot with everything working together and no one element overpowering another. Just enough dialogue, just enough uptick of the music, the shot of it slowly rising almost looks animalistic, and the slowly rising hum of the power systems getting ready. Picard S3 is firing on all cylinders!

Yeah, that ship was like "uh, I don't know who you're used to dealing with but I'm not the one! Not today bitch!" LMFAO

It’s not a window, it’s the spotlight for the name and registry

Forget the fact that there's a fire burning in space, that's an awesome shot.

Not all fires need oxygen or indeed any other gas to sustain them. If they did the Sun wouldn't work.

Remember, the Titan-A is by no means a warship... She is outgunned by Intrepid...

It really reminded me of that moment in ST2 when the Enterprise rises behind the Reliant, probably because its silhouette is a bit similar to the refit-con. Except in this case rather than hyping up, it's flipped to an "oh shit" moment. lol I never thought about it till now but "angry starship" really is kind of an apt description in both cases.

Yeah that was really menacing. Last Starfleet ship I can recall looking that mean was the Reliant! Really excited to see where this series is going because of all things I did NOT expect to get a new threat from the Changelings! I hope they end up going by DS9, even if just to do a flyby on the way to the wormhole and go to the Gamma Quadrant. I would seriously flip out if that happens.

This moment is like when they hit the Terminator, it's head moved slightly to the side, then slowly looks back forward.

I love the retro dots around the ship to represent Shields. Right out of Wrath of Khan.
