My Brother in law was there. Some of the Rangers fans swarmed over to the Stretford end. Some got in and some were forced back. Some also got into the Stretford through other means. I don't know why the truth is such a big deal for you. for

The traditional place of Newcastles most vociferous fans I thought was to the left of where the TV gantry is I though that was the gallowgate end.Thats where the Rangers support was in 69 so is the leazes the opposite of that end.Most of these battles I don't think Rangers took the ends the coppers allowed thousands into these sections before the games.Man U have a massive support from Ulster who would have Rangers and Man U scarfs on so plenty Rangers would be in the Stretford end at the start of the game and at villa Park.

@billyleadbitter5661 I was in Barcelona for their 75th. anniversary match v MCFC in Nov. '74. After the game myself and 2 mates went into the nearest bar. We couldn't understand why the bar staff were shitting themselves and offering us whisky for free. All we wanted was a couple of beers. We eventually realised that we were the first British team to play in Barcelona after Rangers in the ECWC Final of '72. Four years later we were on our way to Standard liege, sailing from Dover. We always travelled before the official travel club. As we got nearer to Dover we were passing a few Rangers coaches. We drive onto the ferry and hit the bar. then it is announced that it is being delayed. It only took about 30 minutes before we were heading out of Dover, with 2 or 3 coach loads of 'Gers fans. It transpired that the captain had refused the coaches onto the Ferry as apparently he'd had aggro the previous 2 nights. So Rangers fans exited their busses and wouldn't let the trucks on, Dover police called and attended. Now I can imagine what happened next. Whoever was in command just wanted them out of Dover. We got drinking with a group of them "Big Dunc" is the only name I remember. We wanted to know why they were sailing to Belgium when they were playing Feyenoord. Big Dunc explained they were doing a "Pincer" (his words) movement and planning on coming into Rotterdam from the other direction as The Dutch authorities were waiting for ALL Rangers' coaches at Hook of Holland. Great bunch of lads and happy days.

Rangers fans weren't fighting with Newcastle. The ones that invaded the pitch attempted to get the match abandoned when the second goal went in. Many of the young fans in the photos trackside were on the pitch trying to find safety from morons at the back throwing bottles. Thankfully those days are now long gone.
