I always love the Twilight Zone for having different approaches to story telling. This episode definitely showcases the "Show, don't tell", kind of story and pulls it off magnificently. The ending was even mindblowing revealing the aliens were actually humans.
Love the twist in this and it's one that I don't watch as often as I should. Agnes Moorehead is amazing with how much she communicates without saying a word. And I like that it's not too cheesy or spacey as well. You really feel for this frightened lonely woman who's being attacked and then at the end it's like "OOOH! this is one of those alien episodes!"
Hey Melissa, yeah that's the one thing I noticed now watching as an adult. As a kid this just generally scared me. Now there's more of an appreciation for the creativity behind the scenes, the performance from Agnes Moorehead and as you mentioned, just feeling for her as she's terrorized by these little creepy guys from space. Thanks for watching.
For me the memory. I was 6 years old, 1960? This was my first Twilight Zone experience. We were staying at my aunt's house the day after our house burned down. So memory on top of memory. This episode frightened me very much. For sure I was too young at the time. My older brothers liked it. I felt sorry for the lady when she got cut and cried.
Ms. Moorehead attended Muskingum College, as did Astronaut John Glenn. This episode aired Jan. 1961, and Glenn went into orbit Feb. 1962. I wonder what he thought of this? Although born in MA, Agnes spent most of her formative years in Ohio where her father was a preacher man. She's buried in Ohio. That fact, the acting, and the surprise ending making this my favorite "Twilight Zone."
Much thanks ARIZJOE! Those are some excellent facts. I appreciate it when viewers contribute further info related to these classics and the performers who helped bring these stories to life.
I stand corrected, THIS is my favourite Twilight Zone episode. I did not realize that was Agnes Moorhead. So incredibly creepy. Love the plot twist too. Awesome review Anthony!
I remember this episode real clear. I never knew that she played bewitched, mother. I love that show also. That was pretty interesting fact about a little man
One of the best classics.....Richard Matheson is such a strong writer. The show Bewitched delivered two great performance from Anges Morehead here and Elizabeth Montgomery is "Two". Great retrospective.....
Hey Patrick, hope your weekend is going well. Matheson's episodes are all top tier, Nick Of Time, Night Call, Invaders, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, so many classics. Thanks for watching.
Lovely performance by Moorehead. Unfortunate that the budget didn't allow for more realistic spacemen, although there was a certain charm to the toy-like aliens.
Thanks Greg, I really appreciate the positive feedback. That 60th anniversary movie theater showing must have been really cool. Be well & have a good week.
Excellent review as always! Agnes Moorehead for sure gives an amazing performance and the old fashioned effects embue the episode with a hokey charm. Those invaders always made me think of fat Cylons from Battlestar Galactica especially with the eye visor. The sound direction like you mentioned is also a huge component to making this one work as well as it does.
I was very young when this episode aired. Had to beg my parents to stay up later than usual. This really scared me and I still remember experiencing the big reveal at the end. Great episode.
This is not only one of the best Twilight Zone episodes, but also one of the best shows ever put on television, period! Classic performance by a great actress, Miss Moorehead.
Hey Mike! Great to hear from you & happy new year, hope you've been well. This episode was a lot of fun to cover and I agree, Agnes Mooreheaed was fantastic.
Anthony you are a damn wiz at this, dude! Another fantastic review 👏🏽 It really shows how old the show truly is as one of the leads was in “Citizen Kane”. Jesus lol But this twist is a very interesting one. I think what I was able to seriously enjoy about it was how they implemented the use of proper sound design to add to the horror of the situation. Great video, brother!
Speaking of the focus on sound design, you just made me think a more modern comparison would be the Quiet Place movies. Characters are restricted form speaking so there's no dialogue. So we end up with long tense scenes with just minor creaking of floorboards or ambiance. It's a subtle but effective form of horror. Thanks for watching Jonathan.
You know I love when you do these Fev! And I know I sound like a Brocken record but this is one of those eps I rank in my tops. Mainly due to that ending, so I’m glad you covered hay one. Nice comparison to the Jason sleeping bag scene too. Excellent stuff per usual my friend! I forgot to say that I love this one but I did NOT know that was the same actress who played Andora, so your video had a twilight zone twist ending for me too 🤣🤣🤣
Hey GCap, glad you like them, wish I could get around to them more often. The trivia for these is especially fun sometimes. I feel like if something is interesting to me, hopefully it will be to others. Be well!
I love when the time and setting is ambiguous. This twist is great. I also love how much you love The Twilight Zone, that's too cool that you have one of these little invader dudes, lol.
Ha ha, I have a few nerdy collectables, I have been kicking around the idea of a vid just showing off some items. We'll see. Thanks for watching Rainbow, have a good one.
Interesting twist and interesting trivia about this episode. Loved your breakdown of this episode. Yet another one I’ve never seen, but should definitely check out
Heeey Curly Girl, glad you enjoyed the breakdown, sometimes that's the most fun part. Since these are short, it's relatively easy to do. Have a good week!
Love Citizen Kane and that one she's in Hush ..hush Sweet Charlotte. Those invaders were cute. Funny they were based on the Michelin Man!! Another entertaining review. See ya buddy
Coming back to this because I always wondered of this was the inspiration for the Pikmin series (only with a very different approach to the twist). I kinda love this episode because it serves as a reminder of the importance of diplomacy and understanding of when *you* are the threat- you don't want to start a fight you can't win. The astronauts showed no understanding or empathy for the giant despite how very obviously human-like she was. You would think the responsible thing to do would be immediate retreat, but instead this crew inexplicably goes on the extreme offensive when attacked. Seems odd for Americans- who have it in law in many states that you can shoot home invaders without fear of legal reprisal- that they would not apply that standard to aliens.
Great insight, you are right. In this bizarre scenario they very much are 'the invaders' and they are going to the extreme when attacked. No wonder the older woman loses it and goes hard on them.
Hey Mr. Dan, agreed, the twist ending in this one alone makes this worth a watch and also gives rewatches a new context. Thanks for checking in man. Be well!
@@FeverDreamlandTheater yeah, thanks buddy. It's been a hectic few months. Really enjoyed this one and will definitely be back for more. Have a great weekend dude! 👍😎🎬
Cirespeed! Yeah man, I have a few scattered collectables. I'm almost afraid to really start collecting Star Wars, Twilight Zone, Nightmare on Elm Street stuff...etc..I'll go broke so fast. LoL Thanks for watching bro.
3/5 was my rating also before I saw yours at the end. BTW, a movie I really like, and like Agnes Moorehead in, is Hush ... Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964).
Hey Hop! I came across 'Hush, Sweet Charlotte' while researching a bit. It's amazing how you can go down the rabbit-hole from these sometimes. That movie seems right up my alley, I have to check it out. Thanks Hop. & thanks for checking in, be well & have a great week!
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Yeah, Anthony, I'd encourage you to give 'Sweet Charlotte' a watch. Even though the critics like its predecessor, 'Baby Jane', better, I don't. But it's not that infrequent for me to differ with the critical consensus. For example (since you like horror), I like the original Frankenstein ('31) better than its sequel, 'Bride of' ('35). I like the sequel; I just like the first movie more. Most critics feel the reverse.
Richard Matheson is such a great Author. I am legend is a classic. I remember reading it during the summer before I started high school. This episode is very eerie, I like it. What a twist. I have to say those humans deserved it messing with that giant woman.
Hey Everything Horror, great observation. There were a lot of Twilight Zones that focused on the weaknesses of humanity. This one was more subtle but it's still there.
Wait a minute. This means that there have been at least two TZ episode titles THAT BECAME TV SHOWS! The Invaders.................. tv show I Dream of Jeanie..........tv show
A darn fine choice, once again. Another of my favorites. And easily one of the best, most unpredictable twists, of the series. I thought about covering them for my Sci-fi Aliens list even. But I didn't want to have to be so vague. They really are a great design though. Love the figure too. Hate I missed out on that one. But the biggest mystery here.....why was the Michelin Man white?
Hey Rob, thanks for stopping by man! No doubt, in terms of twists, this one is right up there with 'To Serve Man' and 'Time Enough At Last'. As for the Michelin Man, good question, apparently tires weren’t colored black until 1912, they were either grey-white or had a light translucent beige hue. (I cheated and looked it up, LOL) Have a good week bro.
Loving these Twilight Zone reviews! Such a distinct show, it has such a unique style. I’m curious about what you think of Black Mirror? Also if you haven’t seen “The Vast of Night” I think you’d love it. It’s a love letter to Twilight Zone and 50s sci-fi 👌
Heeey DisTract! I loved Black Mirror and found Vast of Night to be interesting as well. In the case of Black Mirror, it definitely felt like a solid / modern take on the horror anthology formula. But I like that it set itself apart and had its own unique identity. It was so bleak at times but always engaging. As you know, its so tough to keep up with new content but I've been meaning to do a top 5 or 10 favorite Black Mirrors for a while. Thanks for watching as always DisTract, have a good week bro.
Good ear! The music was from Jerry Goldsmith's Invaders suite. The music you noted also popped up for a few seconds during the truck stop / bathroom scene in ''Dumb & Dumber.' Goldsmith's 'Twilight Zone' score also showed up in 'Kingdom of the Spiders' and 'Alligator' too.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Dumb and Dumber! That's it!!! Oh, you're good! Also, gotta say, your channel is amazing. I've been going over the Twilight Zone reviews. My dad grew up with the original and showed me them in reruns. I remember the 80's series from when I was a kid but didn't fully get into that one until he brought home season one on dvd in 2005. Now I have the complete box set of the 80's series. I had John Glover sign it at a convention not too long ago and had a cameo from Andrew Robinson talking about "Profile in Silver" I love that you've talked about the different eras of the show. Also loved your Fright Night reviews. Keep up the amazing work. I'm loving it all.
@@superby1 😁👍 Heeey no prob! Happy to have you here! Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.That's awesome you got the set signed by Glover. Man, I really have to get out to some conventions at some point. Have a good one! 👊
My favorite episode! Spoilers Next is a hard choice but probably howling man ( the monks have the devil captured) And number 3 Five characters in search of an exit ( basically the original toy story )
Yes, the Irwin Allen show, good observation. I am not as familiar with that series but just checked some clips online, it looks right up my alley. Thanks for watching & commenting J0MBi.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater yeah it was one of those 60s shows they repeat a lot when I was a kid, Land Of The Giants, Time Tunnel and The Invaders - Sunday afternoon entertainment heaven! Those little robot/astronaut characters in this episode look pretty unique, I've been meaning to watch these old Twilight Zone episodes for a long time.
Totally worth it seeing them in full. At the moment these are on Paramount Plus, Amazon and Hulu. The Box sets can be worth it too. Thanks for watching.
