Considering if he took off his clothes then he'd be invisible and free to torture Kemp any which way he could imagine that would intimidate almost anyone..
@@raven-deelarsen2644 Listen to him read 'The Nativity Story for children.' on YT. Funny to think that he overcame a dreadful stutter and that he had to learn to pronounce the letter 'r.'. Called himself Willy Wains his entire childhood. An amazing man.
I mean, you can see some of the wires if you watch it in HD. Still, the effects have aged really well, especially considering this was made during the Great Depression.
@vetarlittorf1807 😂I was wondering about that. Lol. I saw this for the first time today and I'm really impressed. How they made him invisible was very cool especially for a 1930's film. 👏
Claude Rains pulled it off the best when it comes to portraying the Invisible Man in films. Voice, laughter, madness and the whole nine yards. Also due to his voice along with the laughter, Vincent Price who portrayed the part in the sequel "The Invisible Man Returns", he too did a pretty good job.
i agree but the latest one made in color was great as well. The caretaker or housemaid had me balling when she walked into the private parlor and found that he had destroyed her inn table with chemicals and he had tossed all that straw everywhere. he said just add it to his bill a shilling which i later found out was money just not sure how many pounds. she shouted a shilling . all the invisble man wanted was some privacy and he could never get it. and i was disappointed that kemp didn't want to go along with his plan to rule the world possibly because he was already living in the lap of luxary.and so he betrayed him. The invisable man kept his promise to come back chasing after Kemp with a hachet and unfotunetly Kemp survived and they beat the invisible man to death. ..its a good thing he was the invisible man on top strangling kemp or it would have been Kemp that they beat to death. Beating and shooting an object you cant even see was halarious. all the wrong people betrayed him and if it had been another criminal imagine the banks and jewelry stores they could have robbed or the many women they could have boinked in the middle of the night.
“We’ll begin with a reign of terror” “Murders of great men, murders of little men, just to show we make no distinction” “I think I’ll throttle you” The Invisible Man is great at saying such terrifying and threatening lines so calmly
Murders of great men, murders of little men. Just to show we make no distinction. I might even break a train or two, just with these fingers, around a single one's *_throat._* Thats all. Griffin, for heavens sake!- You want me to take these off? No, no... Very well.
0:45 I love how kemp doesn't treat griffon like a monster but still talks him like his old friend but unfortunately he was too far gone at that point except for small crevices of sanity
I can really appreciate how a majority of the people in this movie reacted to having an invisible man in their neighborhood. They handled it pretty well compared to most people in these old movies who just run screaming all over the place lol
@torystasteandtell7968 The remake does exactly that, unfortunately. Another reason why this movie is ahead of its time. The remake sadly falls into that trap of everyone apart from the main character and villian are idiots.
oh yes the kind of movies you have nightmares about, when he first entered it gave me chills. that hotel attended had an inkling something was off as she said they only rent rooms in the summer. yet she caved in until days went by without him paying his bill.
The Invisible Man is one of my favorite movies ever and easily my favorite of the Universal Monsters, Claude Rains’ portrayal of Griffin was perfect, the maniacal laughter and the evil genius later went on to inspire Mark Hamill’s portrayal of The Joker. Also a fun little fact, Jack Griffin is responsible for the deaths of 124 people in this movie, that’s more than every other Universal monster combined
No. He knew Kemp personally. I think Kemp was his university professor. Though Flora Cranley was not in the book, she was made for this movie because Hollywood puts love interests everywhere.
One of My Favorite Actors of all time and definitely one of my favorite films. Famous for his acting ability and voice. He suffered through a gas attack ss a soldier during WW1. That injured his vocals chords.
I've never seen this movie, but the very idea of it creeps me the eff out. Especially because this invisible effect was most likely new to movies, and the manic laughter when he took off his bandages, and ran around with only a shirt, gives me chills...
It was said as a threat to Kemp. Basically, saying that he'd become invisible and kill him if he was going to go against him. I find it interesting especially for the time though hinting at nudity in the film.
Ngl out of all the Universal movies, this one is one of the most epic and best villains/ monsters along with Dracula in my opinion. Both of the most evilest of all.
The entire idea behind the Invisible Man comes from Socrates' parable of the magical Ring of Gyges, which would turn anyone who used it invisible. Socrates believed that morality was based entirely in social stigma, and that if no one could see you committing crime you would quickly become a immoral criminal. This idea has filtered down through culture to us ever since, from this story to Lord of the Rings.
Jack Griffin would bend Adrian Griffin over his actual invisible knee and smack his visible hiney after tearing apart Adrian's "invisible" suit, maybe even teabag Adrian with his actual invisible package, all while saying "Son, who taught you how to treat women like that?" I kind of want a movie where classic monsters whoop remake monsters asses now😆😆😆
"We'll begin with a Reign of Terror, Murders of Great Men, Murders of Little Men, just to show we make no distinction." Sure he's gone insane with power, but he has a good plan to send a message!
You know the invisible Man, that is played by Claude rains is more threatening, especially when you have a last name as Jack Griffin… I never thought that my last name can be so inspiring, as well as terrifying, especially with Family Guy. Still an iconic scene.
Sunglasses like those are known as Side Panel or Shield Glasses. I don’t think the models similar to the one in this film (or the book for that matter) are made anymore. They’re probably not too difficult to make yourself by modifying a pair or you can possibly find similar ones online. I’m saying this as I remember a friend of mine doing one of the best costumes of Jack Griffin I have ever seen, robe, slippers, glasses and all, screen accurate.
Is it True Director James Whale Signed Actor Claude Rains after overhearing his voice in another room at Universal Studios when he signed him for the role of Dr.Jack Griffin aka "The Invisible Man"? Another words Claude Rains found himself in the right place at the right time True? I await your answer and reply.
