Actually I lived there in the early 70's. Our home was number 606...the third house from the left as you pan across the family housing viewed from the front. Honestly it's depressing to see an empty concrete slab where my favorite home was. The view from that AFS was breathtaking...especially at night. I understand the reasons for wanting to restore the mountain, but what you only see as an ugly eyesore...is for me a source of many fond memories. I hated leaving that mountain. As kids we didn't think of it as a place devoted to war. It was just a beautiful place to live.
Howdy. I rode from the bottom of railroad grade to east peak three times in 8 hours. But I am nothing compared to Todd Franklin. And Tom Fleming was great on down hill but Steve Clements could ride a wheely from top to bottom sliding around turns. Can't leave out Chris Laurence the fire man who is a straight bad ass. Legends in my book. Ever since the Cove bike shop koski brothers made the first mountain bike in around 1974. Gotta visit their museum in Fairfax. What a grand life. What a grand mountain.
