@RyanHartmann That would have been awesome but unfortunately people in todays climate would look at it as black vs white rather than two legendary people who an both honorable men. Even though it would have nothing to do with race it would be preseved as so now for no reason.

Especially considering the state to the North, Minnesota, has more population and only has one. Same with the state to the Northeast, Wisconsin.

I'm an Iowa fan and no it's not! A win doesn't do Iowa any good and a loss is just plain embarrassing. The game needs to end.

buggyracer 1 as an Iowa state fan I agree. Since our AD doesn’t see the need to play any different P5 schools in non conference I would rather play some old big 12 schools that left the conference then play Iowa

This rivalry doesn’t get as much notice because of it being early in the season. Imagine how much more hype if it was at the end of the regular season. Especially if CFP implications are riding on it.

@Pink Starburst The Pewter Family trophy was horrible, lol. But the story of its origin was really a good segment. I never knew that part and McCarney told the story very well. Even though I can’t unsee his short shorts and skinny legs, he was a character and a good coach at the time Iowa State needed.

I can assure you that no one outside of the state of Iowa gets excited for this game. I think it's nice they kept their rivalry going but I typically dislike it because that means Iowa won't play a decent out of conference opponent that will expose them early. And yesterday's game between these two (2022) was one of the worst football games in the history of the sport.

Iowa’s best rivalry games ranked 1) Floyd of Rosedale (vs Minnesota) 2) Heartland Trophy (vs Wisconsin) 3) vs Nebraska 4) CyHawk CyHawk is fun... but it’s literally never been competitive and the trophy is less interesting

@@thebacons5943 they played over 100 times being geographical next door neighbors and in the big 12 era they were no doormat to Nebraska. Only reason Iowa and Nebraska are rivals is the same reason Iowa state and Nebraska are. Except ones played like 40 times the other 100 times

A very important player in history. He died playing football from injuries as he was the first black player to play for iowa state as racial discrimination was still going on. Minnesota played him dirty and did cheap shot hits on him. Might wanna google it and read for yourself.

That would not benefit Iowa and they would never leave the big ten. Iowa State wouldn't be able to compete in the big ten so I think it's better if they stay in their separate conferences

All of Nebraska's "storied" history comes from the Big 8, a weak, weak conference. If Nebraska wants to regain its former glory, it will need to return to the Big 12. Nebraska might not have much of a choice if they can't get back into the AAU, which by the way Iowa State is a member without a medical school. But then again, they probably couldn't beat Iowa State now either.
