one of the features that need to be address quickly is output audio management, where u can select which audio output u want it to be, either from hdmi output, bluetooth, or from the ipad speaker itself.. right now its only output the audio automatically to hdmi where no bluetooth audio is connected.. no option to go for ipad speaker itself.. p.s. my hdmi audio monitor kind a suck btw.. 😅
I love Stage Manager. My M1 iPad Pro 11 has been my real estate business machine since last November. Waited years for this, and now I can use my iPad Pro as a desktop machine. Got my cake and eatin' it too. Whooo Friggiinngg Hooooo!!!!! I use a BT keyboard with an Apple Trackpad 2. Feels very natural and intuitive to use a touch device to control a touch device. Also have an Anker hub with a Samsung T7 SSD for external storage. Life is good and luvin' iPadOS. Thanks for another great video Chris.
I had previously been tearing my hair out at how unusable Stage Manager was as a whole, but then magic happened. It all started to come together when I started using external display, and I tuned my workflow to accomodate this set up. Now I pretty much use Stage Manager on both my iPad and external display whenever I am in Productivity mode, and switch it off in my iPad when I am doing everything else. I am loving this new setup now!
I appreciate tech reviews that are positive and optimistic. I don’t mind if they mention short comings of the item being reviewed, but it’s still done with hope that it could be improved. Good job!
You are 💯 correct. Channels complain iPad doesn’t have pro features. The second it arrives they complain about it not even out of beta yet. This will be improved upon it’s just the beginning. I’m exited to do some music production with this set up and have my levels up on the second display too hopefully . Great video
Stage Manager is great! Now I desperately need support for Continuity Camera or Studio Display camera to fix the iPad Pro camera placement. Surprised I don't see more people asking for this 🤔
Definitely a step in the right direction for Stage Manager and other Apps that will take advantage of working with an external display with the iPad Pro lineup. By 2023 when the newer and rumored bigger iPad Pro's come out it should be well ironed out and run smoothly. I am excited to see how this develops. If this works out to be as good as I think it will I will get a iMac to go along with my iPad Pro.
This feature completely changed the way I use my ipad for school. I am now able to just take simple notes when in class or ask Questions that actually help me better understand the topic. With a secondary monitor and a good mech keyboard + mouse I now really enjoy to do a clean daily follow-up in Notion without having to boot up my desktop pc.
I enjoy that you are always positive on these features and find how to make them work to make you more productive while the rest of RU-vid experts only whine about new features because they aren’t exactly what they wanted
Indeed!! It's A SUPER REFRESHING outlook that's really needed right now. I truly hope that he never changes or deviates from his optimistic mindset!! I can't even begin to explain how refreshing it is to get home and learn more about the apple products I have come appreciate so much, when I basically hated the brand for years.(@Louis Rossman I 🤔 think) *Long story short, I wanted to draw on a tablet and found the mini 6 about a month ago and have been SO INTRIGUED ever since I found out that this beast can do almost anything my PC can and games better than any Samsung tabs as well! Thanks again for your time and efforts DailyTekk you are doing a phenomenal job! Have a blessed day/or weekend!!! 💪🤓
Thanks for all the iPad content. I adore the iPad. It’s just a fun way to get work done. It makes the mundane, magical. 🤩 I appreciate, and enjoy your perspective on this amazing device. Peace, Love and Light!
One year later and that’s my setup! Mainly use scrivener and procreate, and am loving the external monitor. I upgraded my 2018 12.9” ipad pro for an M2 1 tb model last month. Didn’t want to spend on a new keyboard for the M4 :( but going from the 2018 to the M2 is plenty of an upgrade so far hehe. I was surprised to get 400 bucks back in credit for the 2018 pro from the applestore, so like 30% value back after six years of use!
I'm genuinely excited about Stage Manager / External Display Support. Fed up with taking my 1.7kg laptop and iPad on business trips. Instead I can travel iPad only and remote in to my laptop at home with the Mac desktop full screen on the external display when I need it! 👍😎
iPad ecosystem is all about unnecessary limitations: you can use a monitor, but not in a clamshell mode, you can resize windows, but only to fit into pre-designed positions, you have a laptop-processor, but you can't run laptop software. it's all about buying a company deciding for you how you should and how you should use the resource that you already paid for. Not sure why one should tolerate that.
That’s a pretty fair assessment, but I would like to say as a creative person, most of the time I don’t notice the limitations. Being able to put something down on one device and pick it up on another and keep working without sending files or converting things or moving stuff around really means more to me than the limitations I face. When one device doesn’t work for what I need, I switch to another, and I think we are starting to see a move to more freedom for the user in software from Apple and the limitations are going to start to shrink
@@Sashazur I have a MBP from 2012 that’s definitely the weakest link in my chain, but it’s still trucking and doing what I need it to! For the things I use it made more sense to get a newer iPad
The idea is really cool on an external monitor. Needs some refining but overall a nice experience. I just think stage manager is weird on the iPad screen. I don’t like the experience
Finally this works great, iPad is turning out to be really great 3 in 1 device, it runs mobile apps which can be opened in a window in stage manager along with other apps, we already have great ipad apps like procrete and notablility, only thing missing is the desktop apps, if Apple lets installing apps other than App store then its gonna be great dream device for most people, with the support of touch, pencil, mouse and keyboard, then esssentialy this will or should replace macbook air line up and only needing the macbook pro models for power users.
Nice video… it would be more helpful if you do a video on monitor buying guide for ipad like its resolution and ports etc and also which mouse or touchpads are best for use with ipad.
Now that I no longer develop (software) for a living, I can actually envision a time when that sort of set up will be all I need. I’m already at the point where my laptop stays home when I’m traveling and the iPad fills in nicely (for the most part).
Full version of resolve? Pretty sure it is the cut page and color page. No Fairlight, No editing page, and no fusion page. I could understand no fusion but the editing page should be added. If it works the speed editor just having the cut page will be pretty cool.
After the iOS and stage manager I am selling my MacBook Air and going all in to iPad use. (Ps; not a pro user only privat). Thanks for all the tips and videos
I’m pretty excited that I bought my iPad Pro three years ago. I also can run Windows 10 thru Parallels off the old imac remotely. Y ou have a great channel Chris. Keep doing what you love.
the fact external display is only going to be available for M1 and M2 iPads is a bit frustrating when it was already shown that it could run well in previous iPad Pro generations.. typical Apple- introduce software restrictions to try and force people to 'upgrade' unnecessarily.
Well done... just found out that you (the channel owner) can remove comments that you dislike or don't agree with. Neat Trick Chris. Rock on.... (I have now unsubscribed)
So I've now been trying the stage manager for the last couple of days and I have to say that it has totally transformed the iPad experience for me. It now feels like a device which I can use as for tasks like email, browsing, messaging with a lot less frustration. The ability to have multiple windows on the screen at the same time is brilliant. I now wish I had the bigger one.
I can see apple give us a new feature with the M3 iPad. Since it may take on the new iPad form factor we may still just get 1 thunderbolt 4 usbc however the new smart connectors will allow for a new Magic Keyboard3.0 with 2 more thunderbolt ports for both charging and data transfer this will allow for 2 displays.
It would be cool if they put macOS to the iPad as a form of extension. Like how samsung galaxy phones/tablets can go dex mode when connected to display, Apple maybe can put the iPads running iPadOS when it's by itself but it can be converted and run as MacOS when connected to an external display. This way it's a win-win situation for everybody including Apple in a sense that Apple still have people using their iPadOS but consumers be happy to finally have MacOS on laptop albeit needing a display.
Question ?? I have my iPad updated to IOS 16. Not 16.2. Is that the reason I am not able to use the dual monitor set up ? I’m only able to mirror my monitor and it also doesn’t resize to for the screen appropriately. I’m so excited to use it as you showed in the first minute of the video. Any clarification would be amazing! -thank you
For me extend monitor is still lacking in 16.1 upgrade. It is only mirroring my ipad. Not sure if anyone has the same issue as myself. I have logitech folio keyboard + logitech mouse and anker docking.
I don't quite get this. Is this for people who only have an iPad and not a computer? I don't see a point to this unless you have a monitor and the only computing device you have is an iPad.
Looks promising but still not as useful or evolved as DEX - I'm slowly building up an Apple echo system and need Apple to focus more on multitasking / UI rather than just CPU GPU processing power....
What about people who use spreadsheets? I wanted my iPad Pro to be my daily driver but I couldn’t find a path forward on any spreadsheet app, including numbers. The way the curser works on iPadOS is just too restrictive.
Besides occasional bugs, there are just few things they need to give us, and we would be all set. Give us the option to choose if new apps are launched in current pile or in a new pile (currently they are launched in a new pile always). And give us more control over placement of windows. Do those two things and I would be one happy camper!
@@joselucnico Yes, you can, and the OS will then rearrange the other windows to avoid overlap. Let people put windows wherever they want, without OS trying to arrange them for the user.
I think they might do it eventually, that’s how stage manager works on Mac (free moving windows) I kind of get why they might have done it the way they have, they are trying to retain the spirit of the iPad. Steve Jobs believed the Mac was too complicated for some users and they got confused by overlapping windows which end up getting lost. If we had something like expose then I think free moving windows would work fine
How about a MacBook, iPad, and external monitor? Would you prefer connecting the Mac or iPad, or it’s one half dozen or the other since iPad OS is improving? I love having a MacBook next to an iPad and using Universal Control. I’m assuming an external monitor would make that even better between all the devices.
I’ve been on the Beta and other than killing shortcuts automations for a little while its been really solid, I’m on 16.2 on my daily driver with no problems
@@ericsparkman3645 I grabbed the beta and gave it a go, it’s pretty good on an external display. I think it’s definitely better than most people are giving it credit for. This video is spot on saying it only seems “bad” to some people because it’s not what they’re used to. Only negative for me is the MS Remote Desktop app doesn’t run full screen yet but I hope MS will fix that as it must be some issue with their app. Trying to go full screen just resizes it to some awkward size. Works pretty well windowed but I would obviously love to be able to connect to a remote PC using the full external display. Def on MS to sort so got my fingers crossed they’ll support the latest features.
I asked for this since ipad pro 1st gen.... and now its out and i think its worst than using the ipad itself. The stage manager solution is dumb to be honest. The screen usage is just bad. If you have a huge monitor you wast most of the screen with nothing and most apps just dont work well with bigger monitors. I think we are a long way from a good usage of an external monitor for anything that really is useful. Right now this is a second monitor for doing something that dont need a second monitor.
Hey Chris. Just spent some time in the Apple Store with my iPad connected to the Studio Display and can't say it was a great experience. Why not do a FaceTime call with the iPad and use the Studio Display camera which is at a better height? Sorry, can't do it. Why not use an external mic but have the speaker output go to the Studio Display? Sorry, can't do it. As you said software may change the situation in the future, but today, there really isn't any good reason to purchase a Studio Display strictly to use with the iPad. Already using the Studio Display with a Mac? Then being able to connect the iPad now and then is cool, but that's about it.
Earlier when ipad connected to macbook with usb c to usb c wire; we were able to view ipad screen in quick time player (new movie recording) or obs (video capture device). After updating to iOS 17 its gone from Quick Time player and OBS too. Now from where i can stream my iPad screen to to OBS in my mac 😢
I predicted something like this years ago and it is about to come true. No more actual small desktop computers, just a smartphone / iPhone.. You would be able put your phone into a dock that is connected to a large monitor with keyboard and mouse. That would then unlock the iOS to MacOS (Dock OS?) with full features of all applications just like a normal desktop computer. Then when you undock it goes back to iOS. Most people do such low power computing (Web Browsing/email/spreadsheets/documents) that a smartphone is all you need. This iPad feature that you went into detail is it available in the 14 promax iPhone? I dont think you mentioned it, do you think that is coming???
Can you use any monitor or only Apple Studio Display? I would really like to see how you use the Davinci Resolve App with this Setup, how the Performance of AI Features like Magic Mask perform!
I maybe stupid here, a few days ago I decided to buy a monitor for my iPad Pro not knowing what you do. I looked at your iPad and it was not mirror imaging the iPad Is there a program to do this? I’m lost. Thanks for sharing Ray K UK 🇬🇧 YNWA.
Where did you get the desk lamp? Great video BTW. I’ve always appreciated you seeing the brighter side of things. Apple isn’t perfect by any stretch of imagination but I do find value in the direction their heading. If I’m being honest, if I wanted the features that others mentioned, I’d own a MacBook. Otherwise, I’ve used iPad Pro since it’s first model. It meets all of my needs and more.
Maybe I am in the minority but I hate apple's take on desktop mode. I guess I am spoiled by Samsung's DEX mode. It makes more sense to me and is way more usable. I have tried to force myself to use Stage Manager and just hate the way it is laid out. Snapping two apps and being able to go full screen is Soo much better IMO.
I don’t have the smart key board, I have the other Apple key board, would I need a mouse? I saw you discuss how to use the touch mouse features, but not the other apple keyboard and an external mouse.
I have hated windows pc since I first used it in the 90s. I can only afford one Apple “computer”, for me it has always been the iPad as that what I first got years back.. I have always found a way to get what I need done. I’m so glad this new way exists on the iPad, for me it works great. Sure there are some odd bits, but it is so much easier to do stuff now..
Link them for you down below? Where down below? Help newbie get started please. I new and really like the iPad Pro and bought the studio Display as you suggested.
Great video as always Chris! I can’t help but thinking though that everything would be better simply using the M2 MacBook Air/pro now (it can do more multi tasking, better real world applications and iPad apps too) Of course if your an Apple Pencil use that setup is killer! 👍
For a digital artist, and a weird portability user then a MacBook is just not an option, but I do understand why a MacBook would be a lot better in so many ways
@@bitraboj722 On a Mac you can use a drawing tablet plugged in. (We use them here at the office) Then at least you're able to use all the iPad apps and the Mac apps too. You can even use Side car on any iPad to use the Apple Pencil with your Mac.
I purchased a USB-C to HDMI adapter and have tried running it out of my iPad into a monitor and nothing happens. What am I missing? Should it automatically recognize a signal coming in?
i hate being poor. this is so cool but i need to be able to afford an iPad Pro AND an external monitor + keyboard. 😭 i still have an iPad 4 which is nearly useless at this point in time. i only use it to listen to podcasts with wired earphones. the battery life is surprisingly still good.
