I saw this movies as a kid and I never realized the eskimo guy was Mako Iwamatsu (Mako) the man that played the wizard in Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer. Wow.

A fun movie. I saw it in the theatre when it first came out. I only had one complaint, then and now. Who in the hell decided that 'Fi Fi of the Arctic' was a good idea? A poodle ?! It only served to compromise the story; not to mention the visuals.

I recall going to see this at the local cinema when even then I laughed at the quality of the special effects - and especially this part of the movie where each whale segment occurs in clearly different sea conditions!
