I deal with dyslexia, despite attempting to force myself to practice practice practice, i feel like im growing to be a weaker reader as the years pass by. People like you, who dedicate so much time and effort are a god send. I adore reading (audiobooks) and have done it since i was a kid. Thank you so much for the work you do. It helps me decorate the hallway of time with enjoyable storys and thought provoking ideas. Thank you so much. -N
This was the first book I remember my dad reading to me and my sibling at night before bed. (Is this why I love horror and the macabre now as an adult?) This reading of it was very calming. Thank you.
I drive all night long for mobile security, I happened across this and you made my night go by so fast! Thanks for making a long boring night fun and relaxing!
For the past month or so I've come to appreciate the value of audio books while in hospital, recuperating from a devastating physical operation. I needed a pastime with minimal demands in terms of light exposure, noise and eyestrain (brain tumor surgery actually). It's almost deliciously ironic that probably my favorite book so far (I've audited many) is Island of Dr Moreau. House Of Pain indeed lol. Came to relate to that in a whole new light. HGW was a genius.
I have adhd (untreated), so reading this book for school is so insanely difficult for me. Despite pausing here and there, and of course taking short breaks I managed to listen to the full thing! Thanks for the help!
That's so fantastic Violet, I'm so happy I could help. Reading means a lot to me and I'm really glad I could be part of you enjoying this book. You've given me a smile on a dark day - thanks for listening.
Violet, I'm ADHD as well, I rather read the book than listen audiobooks. I reckon that each person has its own way to learn. Don't worry, you're not alone ;)
Amazing reading here! I tried another version but it was a little dry & clinical. I feel like you really are Edward Prendick telling us all this tale you actually went on personally! Great job, really drew me in.
Amazing reading of this book!! I have tried other audio videos of this book, but none of them had me as enthralled in the story as your voice seemed to do. Thank you for uploading this !
Thank you so much Anne! I'm glad you've enjoyed it. This one was from a few years ago and I hope I've gotten better since then, but I've always enjoyed this book.
Yes, that's why he is one of my favourite readers. Not all audiobooks are enjoyable, and some I just stop full stop. I tried the Peter Pan audiobook, as I was interested in the book but don#t have time to read, I heard the book is very different from the film we all grew up with. Peter Pan is a villain, too. But the readers, even though they really made an effort, just didn't make me listen to more than 10 minutes then I listened to something else.
Hello Mr.Parker just wanted to add my explicit thanks both for this wonderful audio book and your generous well wishes regarding my recovery (I'm the tumor patient below- all I could manage by way of acknowledgement at the moment was a feeble like in reply). Anyway, cheers Sir.
I absolutely adore your reading style, it’s so engaging! It’s an amazing skill to be able to capture tone, character and tension when reading and you do it perfectly. This has become one of my favourite books in the Victorian Novel class I’m taking and that’s partly due to your reading of it! So, thank you! :)
This was absolutely amazing. I have always wanted to read the book. The vocalizing and inflections in your voice. You embodied every character perfectly. I can’t wait to listen to Time Machine.
Really enjoyed the book aswell as the effort you put into the reading of said novel. Really well done sir. Thanks for posting. Will be listening to other of your readings for sure.
Excellent, great to hear. This was right at the start of my home production cycle, so hopefully ,(other than Treasure Island which was recorded for radio) they're all better from here on in.
ONE OF THE MOST SLEPT ON CHANNELS IE COME ACROSS IN A LONG TIME. KEEP IT UP I APPRECIATE WHAT YOURE DOING FOR MY MIND1 THE 9-11 HOUR READINGS HAE BECOME I LIE FOR.
@@SteveParkerAudiobooks it beats the hell out of falling asleep to netflix. Its amazing the imagry your mind can paint just simply hearing it from the bard
I noticed a very subtle and notable change within predik. He goes from saying creatures, beast this to beast that, brutes, to at one point consistently referring to them as men and women. Very nice touch of H.G.Wells I may say. Now I want to see the movie to see all the similarities and differences
Anyone else think its interesting that these two men live on a secret island together and spend all their time "man-making" and calling each other "silly asses"?
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy my work. I think this is the lowest quality of my full novels, so if you like this you'll have a real treat up ahead if you listen to my other works. :)
Absolutely fantastic job you did narrating this. I had listened to this story a few years ago and had wanted to hear it again, but I found the narrative to be boring, but you're narration is perfect!. I plan on making several of these "beast folk" in figurine form and you certainly helped out with the process. Ill without a doubt be checking out your other narratives. War Of The Worlds catches my attention.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) You should join our discord and post your figurines in the community art section when they're done, I'd love to see them!
This has to be the best voice acting I've ever heard! I might use this audiobook for an animated film version of this audiobook online! Edward Prendick would be telling this story to a psychiatrist, and it would constantly cut either him with the psychiatrist, or the story he's telling.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy my work, I'd probably rather you don't steal it though. We can certainly talk about a colab if you like, though. Drop me an email at Steve@SteveParkerAudiobooks.com and we'll have a chat. All the best.
@@SteveParkerAudiobooks Sure thing. The Island of Dr. Moreau is my favorite book, I bought it at Amazon.com. I'm actually writing an inspiration of it, called Children of the Law. It takes place DECADES after the events of H.G. Wells' novel. It has new characters and a new mad doctor who's obsessed with Moreau's work, and worst of all... he's hiding a disfigured face and hand from an incident in his lab. I'm publishing it to Disney as a Y.A. novel since it has blood and cannibalism in it. It's basically The Green Inferno in a nutshell! LOL! Hope you enjoy it when it comes out, and let me know what you think.
Amazing read. Didn’t realize this was your channel till more than halfway through. Audiobook aside, I think the Brando movie was a better take on this story than Wells’ work. I don’t get why that movie gets panned. I still need to watch the 1977 version
Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying my work. This was actually the first novel I recorded from my home studio, and the last one I did without sound effects. :)
Hasn’t happened just yet but the second a classic book adaptation makes waves at the box office, you can bet that this novel will be adapted soon after.
@@s1n_eater True. I had thought The Last Voyage of the Demeter would make that splash, but it doesn't look like it did. Odd choice anyway, adapting a single chapter of a classic book into a movie.
Wonderful reading ! Love these older books. I don't read anything modern at all, as I find no storyline, and language that doesn't add anything of quality to the story. I've subscribed in hopes you'll do more of these older books. Thanks so much and Merry Christmas to you and yours !
Well then, you're in luck. All I do is older books. Check my RU-vid page to find everything I've made so far. I'm glad you're enjoying my work, all the best to you and yours for the season.
@@SteveParkerAudiobooks Yes, thankyou, checked your page and there are several I'll be listening to. Its very hard to find a Somerset Maughman, or a Rider Hagger audiobook. Razor's Edge and Lost Horizon.... just not there, either. I've listened to every Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes books out there, so I know there has to be other authors of that era out there, too :-)) Thank you for all you do, and Merry Christmas !
Just finished listening to all of it in one go. That final chapter was superlative! I'm gonna gush for a minute because I love great narration like that. Black Library needs to get ya in for a short story or two at least. Hmm. You take any commission work?
I remember when this was required reading. So were Of Mice and Men, How to Kill a Mockingbird, and Shakespeare. Headless Horseman tales around Halloween, haunted woods fundraisers. Memories. Try paintball if you're trigger-happy.
This helped me so much I had to read this book for ELA and I get bored with the book especially since now I have to read it online. I never started it. I decided to listen to this to get my grade up and it did THANK YOU
This is wonderful! I' m up to 2:35:57 and the explanation of the Law just struck me as an analogy to the Old Testament Laws and the baser nature of men sometimes refererred to as our animal instincts.
Got to do more work with sound effects like 1984 animal farm and brave new world. if you do heavy readings a day in the life of Ivan densonovich, beyond Good and evil by Frederick Nietzsche, archetypes by Carl Jung war and Peace with sound effects would be cool Divine comedy, The death of Ivan Ilyich crime and punishment I mean I think even other ones like short stories and stuff would be good with sound effects cuz I think you do it great
Would you prefer that I don't get paid for my work and stop making things? Or perhaps put everything behind a paywall? This is how stuff goes, man. If you want free stuff, go to Librivox. They're nowhere near as good, but they're free and there's no ads. Have a good one.
@@SteveParkerAudiobooksI’d rather you put a minute worth of adds at the beginning or put five second adds throughout, it’s the long ones that you have to constantly skip that are so annoying especially if I’m lying in bed, I’ve got to keep finding the phone picking it up and skipping. I have absolutely no problem with a long one at the start or many at the start or five second adds that I don’t have to skip myself
@@michaelvinson5481 Oh! Gotcha. I've had that before. He's from New Zealand and I'm Australian - it's a very similar accent. Glad you're enjoying my work! 🙂
@@SteveParkerAudiobooks Absolutely, I've been looking for more audiobooks to look into since I've finished a large portion of the SCP content. Looking forward to your future uploads. Are you a writer yourself?
Look at all these ads! People: you can get actual professional audiobooks for free from your library, completely online. Books should never have commercials.
Steve Parker Audiobooks I wasn’t planning on listening, especially to an American read a British book. Go stuff another hundred commercials in your narration. Totally doesn’t break the spell
I'm Australian, but good luck to you. Go to Librivox, there's all the half assed free books you like. Or you could always pay for my work and get it ad-free. You're problem is not that you don't like ads, it's that you don't like ads and you're not willing to pay to be rid of them. I can do without you and your entitled ilk.
I only heard one word before shutting it off. There are at least two apps-Overdrive and Hoopla-where you can get professional audiobooks for free, the latter without having to worry about any wait. If you don’t have a library card you can even pay a nominal fee for one. This, in addition to the countless professional audiobooks ppl post on RU-vid without any ads. The only challenge now is having to negotiate around hundreds of amateur readings. But you’re right: if ppl like your recordings it’s good they have the option to pay for ad-free versions
Unfortunately, most of those professional versions are stolen. I myself have to do weekly searches to take down versions of my work which have been stolen by unscrupulous channel owners. I'm also working on having my work distributed on other platforms, but I'm not very skilled at that sorry of thing so it's taking quite a while.
"Out of mercy I ... BLEW HIS BRAINS OUT." You didn't have to say it like that, Wells. Reads like cheap pulp for me. A little sloppy, Wells seems to be reaching for expose and tells more than shows.
