Did Jack know that this was his last radio show? Although there are hints, we never get a heartfelt goodbye to radio which is what I expected when I first heard this 40 years ago. At the end of the show he says "see you in in the fall". I don't think JB was on in the fall of 1955, (Edgar Bergen had his time slot) but came back in reruns in 1956. What's the real story? I wish he had continued with radio. Was he cancelled or did he leave because TV was a lot of work? Jack didn't go weekly on television until 1960, but I don't know if he was twice a month in 1955 or less. Thanks for the upload!
Jack had hoped that he could find a new sponsor for his radio show the following season, after American Tobacco informed him in January 1955 that they were going to sponsor him on TV only, after that season ended. Despite his best efforts, Jack couldn't find a different sponsor, and reluctantly ended his radio show. He DID get 3M (the makers of Scotch tape) to sustain his December 1956 "Christmas Show" special on CBS {rebroadcast on AFRTS, minus the commercials}- his last original radio appearance. Otherwise, the best he could do was bundle his 1953-'55 radio shows and have them repeated from 1956 through '58 as "THE BEST OF BENNY" on CBS [for Home Insurance].
