I will say some people think the trash talk is too far, but I think it adds drama to distance events which in turn will lead to more viewers. Most watch the Olympics, but I think this could set up distance running to be the main attraction of 2024.
I admire this channel, so I'm sorry if this response does not seem to reflect that admiration. When I see a lead in such as "I Never Thought It Would Be This Bad," all I think is, " Great another channel succumbing to click bait. Just tell us up front what you will be covering. Oftentimes, I will be drawn in; it is the reason I am a subscriber. But using click bait postings just makes me want to go away and look for a better channel because, honestly, I never thought it would get so bad that one of my favorite channels would sink so low.
It’s really bad. He doesn’t seem to understand that this audience will click the video even if it isn’t AMAZING SHOCKING NEWS!!! It’s gotten to the point where I’m ignoring videos unless they literally say “New world record broken today”
Indeed, some of his video titles are so misleading. He recently posted a video about Neeraj Chopra and the image title screamed "90m!" and I was all "Finally! Can't wait to see it!" Then the video was all about how he hasn't thrown 90m yet. So crinjy.
I think it's just part of playing the "RU-vid algorithm" game. Don't hate the player, hate the game. He's doing extremely well for an individual covering running content, and as long as the videos are good I'll keep watching and not let outrageous clickbait titles get on my nerves. Instead, I'm glad that he's growing his channel. Look at other running youtubers, he's blowing most of them out of the water, good for him.
Kerr wins one race and thinks he’s the goat. But I love it. Track and field needs more stuff like this. Drama. Rivalries. Get more eyes and interest in the sport.
@@RUNISFASTJakob is faster but he’s not better at the moment. If you can’t perform on the world championship level without a pacer you don’t actually know how to compete. Jakob needs to learn how to race strategically and win if he want to be the best
Well obviously, he's the most dangerous opponent at the thing Josh has dedicated his life to winning races in. The bigger question is, why does Josh live rent free in Ingebrigtsen's fans' heads.
He uses a lot of the 2012 RU-vid type clickbait as well with the thumbnails which is pretty annoying. I don’t think he realizes how counterproductive they have become
have enough confidence in your content that it's good enough to NOT require these ridiculous titles. I agree that it takes away credibility from what is otherwise good content.
Kerr clearly has a deep fear and dislike of Jakob. Jakob on the other hand knows that his only real competition is himself. He could care less about Kerr.
@@that_which_is_notYeah, you're right, but really? You should probably find a hobby or something. You know, something like pulling lint out of your belly button. Smh
Lol last time I checked Josh was the world champion not Jakob, to say his only competition is himself is empirically false as it was demostrated in the most important event that Kerr can beat Jakob.
I thought it was great to watch Kerr win the World Championships and I have liked him as an athlete, but I also think that the best rivalries in sports are the ones where the athletes try to compete with each other on the day, but can still be friendly with each other when they aren't competing. I know not every set of competitors will be like this, but whatever happens it will be exciting. I would say that Ingebrigtsen, Kerr, Wightman, Nordas, and Nuguse all have a chance at the olympic title, and it will be competitive between them.
Yeah, and I think Nuguse in particular has more upside than all of them in the middle distances. I think Yared will actually be the one to get the WR in the 1500, mile, and possibly even 3k before Jakob. It'll be very interesting to see how Yared does with another year of training and racing under his belt. He's improved drastically every year.
Someone who is so obsessed with their rival is just scared. Kerr has no choice but to continue digging his own grave. The more he talks about how he will beat Jakob the more pressure is on him to perform. Jakob talks big because he is big. Kerr just doesn’t have the same performance record and that’s scares him. Just watch, after all this big talk it will be Naguse who pulls a rabbit out of the hat.
If you've ever seen Kerr interviewed, you will know he always put insane pressure on himself. This isn't anything different from how he's always been and it's helped him become World Champion.
I like that you mentioned Nuguse. He seems to be left out of some of these conversations, but after seeing him fight Jakob to a 3:4- mile I think he’ll be a real threat in Paris
Jakob apparently doesn’t win non paced races, but who paced Josh Kerr to his world championship win again? How many non-paced races does he win exactly?
You are exactly right. I’m so sick of Kerr. Further, over the last 3 global finals, Kerr has a gold, a bronze, and a 5th place finish. Obviously stellar. But Jakob has a gold and two silvers. Really sounds like Jakob can’t show up on the day of the race 🙄
When did Josh say he could win non-paced races himself. His point is, Jakob's faster PB doesn't help him much in major finals; since he has to front run to take any advantage of it. Why wouldn't Ingebrigtsen's rivals put that in his mind and rattle him with it every chance they get.
I love Track and Field because of being the best of yourself and ability to grow. Jakob is chasing World Records Kerr is chasing Jakob 😂 I will see everytime Jakob Wins against Kerr just as satisfying as him breaking each World Record. When Kerr wins its because Jacob had a bad day. Kerr you will never be better until you run the best times. NEVER
Personally I'm a Jakob Ingebrigsten fan and want to see him win come the Olympic Finals, but I've gotta say it does worry me how he's not wanting to really compete much this indoor season due to injury. I hope he's at 100% for Paris
Very few of the top middle distance runners in the world even bother to race Indoors. For most, it just isn't important. Often, when they do compete, it's just to satisfy a sponsors requirements or a promotors request (With $ attached!) Running on a banked 200m track requires a change in running action. Some runners just aren't physically built for Indoor track running. Americans seem to think that everyone runs Indoors and have an "Indoor" season, mainly because of all their College meets. That obviously isn't true. Many Countries don't even have Indoor Tracks. Universities outside the USA often don't have either Outdoor nor Indoor Tracks because Universities are focused on academic achievement, not playing sports. Note: That's why they don't offer sports scholorships.
@@johnwilson5743the vast majority of colleges dont have indoor track, and many states dont have an indoor track season for high schoolers. Only some Americans even know indoor tracks exist but probably the majority of american runners dont even know when indoor track is run
@@johnwilson5743 I know many people don't run indoor track, but its the fact that he's run many indoor seasons in the past and has amazing records running indoor and he's just not running the season mainly due to injury to not face making it worse before Paris
Kerr literally says, "I respect him as an athlete, and I respect his work ethic, but he doesn't always reciprocate... and on a given day I believe I am a better athlete" - What part of that is disrespectful? People trying to hype this up so bad, it's embarrassing.
Maybe Wightman will make a huge comeback. He could then also be a contender for the Olympics. I'm also interested in seeing what progress Niels Laros from the Netherlands will make. Could also be an outsider for an Olympic medal.
Well, people kept saying track needed more rivalries and personalities to help the sport grow, I just don't think they meant for that to include unnecessary smack talk from people who haven't got the bona fides to back up their boasting. Gonna be a riot to hear Kerr's excuses if he doesn't win the Olympic gold medal.
Kerr's not really an excuse guy. He talks huge all the time and often doesn't win, yet sometimes does. It's his personality; it's how he reminds himself he's good enough to win, even when his record and youtube comments would have told him he had no chance of beating Jakob down that final straight in the World Championship final.
When did he say it didn't count? The bottom line is that Jakob likely won't hold off the entire field in the 1500 unless someone else takes it out hard from the gun. Jakob knows that most of the field would beat him in a straight up 100 or probably even 400. So he needs a fast first 1100 and to be in the lead at the bell.
@@XDF745 my bad he said it didn’t count as a non paced race because he went behind Timothy for most of the race but then you could also say the same about josh for not winning non paced races because he didn’t lead for 2023 worlds
Lol I love the wording you give in this little rivalry. Intense and wild is in no way how this rivalry should be defined ^-^ Some of the most casual and mild comments. Also this isn't a "situation". Two men saying they are faster than the other at running in circles is not a situation.
If Jacob gets healthy and is able to train hard for a few few months before European And Olympic championships , I believe Jacob Wins Olympic Title , Yared gets Silver and maybe Cole Hocker for third ! No Josh Kerr
You mistake Kerr for somebody who cares what people think. He's less dismissed and more celebrated now than he's ever been in his whole career and he's always been full of it. Even when people thought he was crazy.
@@thedailystride5407 But don't tell that to the media, because "when he does it, he's just having fun, but when Josh Kerr does the same thing, it's super disrespectful."
@@thedailystride5407 actually he was referring to all athletes he faces on any given day. And that is the mindset of most elite athletes, your competitors are just that, other guys in the race to be beaten!
I never hear Jake Wightman mention Jakob either. People have different personalities and ways of motivating themselves. This has always been Kerr's way; his team-mate Wightman has always been the polar opposite.
Not gonna lie man, I think you’re feeding into the very thing you claim to be getting tired of. Josh made a comment (a pretty wild one for sure) and has been getting asked specifically about those thoughts since. You can’t blame him for talking about his hopes for the Olympics and his thoughts on Jakob (if he doesn’t like Jakob as a person he doesn’t have to, no rule to say they need to be best buds.) His comments about being better on his best day are honestly potentially true, the main difference between the two of the is Jakob has a high floor, whilst Josh has a high(er?) ceiling. FYI the Letsrun comment is totally innocuous, plenty of shitty takes flying around on that cesspool
It’s a commonly used expression in any sport, referring to the fact that some athletes are consistent, whilst others tend to be up and down. The question mark implies that I’m not sure who’s ceiling is truly higher yet
@@luckyspurs im commenting on the idea of one having a higher ceiling or not. Ingebrigtsen has faster times than kerr. If you want to say kerr can beat him in a championship thats fine but its not true kerr has a higher ceiling
all with love and maybe its just personal taste and opinion... but your titles and thumbnails are often a bit too much or "clickbait misleading" and i think you dont need that at all. because i really like your videos and i think they are really well done!
If he can run 3.29 sick, he wouldn't have lost to Wightman. If he was sick, he couldn't have won the 5,000m days later. Or run 3.29 front running for a silver in the 1,500m.
It’s driving YOU crazy and some others posting here - not “people”. This isn’t difficult: Ingebrigtsen is arrogant and easy to resent. Showboating in races, describing Kerr as “just the next man” who won, and he is always saying how great he is. He doesn’t show respect to others so why do you think he deserves any back? Kerr has decided to rile him. Good on him. And actually it demonstrates that when it comes to the psychology of sport, Kerr really does know what’s he’s doing. Jacob will be so keen to “teach” him a lesson that he may well make mistakes in Paris.
To the "Josh is going to be humbled" comments. He's spent his entire career being humbled after making big claims and it's never stopped him believing or saying what he wants again. It won't break him if he doesn't win, but he rightly thinks rubbing salt in Jakob's wounds, irritating him and reminding him constantly of his failures in the last two 1,500m finals, is the best way to give himself a big chance.
Kerr forgets Jakob is the 5k world champion. How is Kerr even talking the dude is prepping for one race while Jakob is preparing for two. Kerr has no class.
If Jakob only runs 1500, we're seeing 3:26 territory if both semis and quaterfinals are slow (3:40-3:45). Regardless, after olympics, a world record attempt should be in the books where a 3:25 or 3:26 is more likely.
what interests me is that going into the 2022 world championship final. josh kerr was doing the same thing. saying that he thinks he will beat jakob. and obviously jakob was the clear favorite. so all of the focus was on jakob and kerr . but the outcome of the final ended up how no one would have expected it to. wightman won. I could definitely see something like that happening in paris this year. maybe nuguse my sneak up and win. or maybe wightman might make another comeback. but this might be foreshadowing. usually the quiet one’s are the most successful.
The 1500 field is stronger than ever but Jakob is two cuts above with no rivals---there is no back and forth exchange of wins. Jakob would have stormed in front and won 1500 worlds had he not been sick. Same for the 5000, winning by the narrowest margin. Various made up or potential rivalries the past couple of years are good for the sport. In terms of trash talk, that has been a monologue from Kerr.
I am all for the trash talk and gamesmanship....lol The reality is that Kerr has lost to Jakob 10 out of 12 races. He is very lucky that Jakob was sick during the world championships final. If and when they race again my money is on Jakob 👍
@@jhuffman52 So he was not sick in the 1500 semi finals where he was showboating to the crowd then was sick for the 1500 final but recovered for the 5k final immediately after? Total bullshit. Kerr and Wightman were able to beat Jakob because he is a 3k/5k guy whereas they are 8/15 runners. He is the best time triallist around but he is far weaker in relative terms as a championship runner.
Josh said that Joacb has big flaws in racing, but HIMSELF have a bigger flaw in my opinion, he expect everything to go his way and positionts and kicks.... But on that most important day, not only he wants it, but BEST of the world all wants it, so unless he is really physically faster, he is going to get DESTROYED by other poeple.
I don't think Kerr's kind of talk really brings anybody new to the sport to watch it, I really don't. People think this kind of "rivalry" trash talk is great for the sport, but my friends who don't run or follow running don't know who Josh Kerr is and none of the talk he's done since worlds has made any difference to that, but some remember Ingebrigtsen winning the Olympics. It just makes Kerr look petty to over and over again go out of his way to do interviews where he claims he's superior to Ingebrigtsen because he finally beat him when he's 2-12 against the guy and his other win was in a prelim, and his overall list of achievements is miniscule in comparison. I was actually super excited to see Kerr get the upset in the World Champs but since then he's come across as thin skinned and arrogant. To keep giving interviews slamming Ingebrigsten and claiming "I'm the best in the world" because you won one race is more than a little over the top when you're 2-12 against the guy who is best in the world. And he's doing this while laying the groundwork for dodging big competitions (world indoors when they're in your home country) and part of his rationalization for doing that is the media obligations associated with it, ok so he can talk to the media on his own time as long as he's talking about how great he is but he can't show up for world indoors because then he'll have to talk to the media and it's a whole thing for him to have to do? No, it's because he's afraid he'll lose and then not get to talk big anymore. You don't get to claim you're the "best in the world" based on one performance, sorry. More goes into "best in the world" than that. You can say you're the world champion, you get to say you were the best on the day, and all that kind of stuff, but Kerr doesn't have the body of work to claim he's the best in the world, not even close. It's not like Ingebrigtsen has yet to win on the biggest stage and has that gaping hole in his resume either, he's the Olympic champion, but outside of that he's done way more to give legitimacy to him being best in the world. Kerr may get there even without showing up for a lot of races by winning the Olympics but he's not there yet.
Yes!! What an amazing race! So funny that no one in these comments mentioned the idea of Hocker winning. And honestly Kerr doesnt seem to be doing that much trash talking; this is super mild compared to what I hear in other sports at least in the US. Plus Kerr backed it up in this case at least!
Man, a lot of disrespect from Kerr. He's not even paying attention to the Americans, like Nuguse, who beat him in the diamond leagues. If he's not careful, we'll pass him without his notice.
I can sum it all up in 1 sentence you said: "calling this a "rivalry" is a stretch". I'm also going out on a limb & guessing Jakob's response if asked about his "rivalry" with Josh Kerr: "who?".
The better athlete should rise above the talking and let the running do the talking IMO. But this is just another psychological tactic, just not on the track. Rivalry is a good thing and it’s not new in athletics, sure it adds drama, but I feel as a professional athlete the way you articulate & speak of yourself & others goes along way. Thats a skill on its own IMO. The 1500 is anyone’s race on the day, but more so any athlete that lines up for an Olympic final has a chance. While I believe this rivalry is real I also believe this kind of thing gets amplified & distorted by the media & journalists looking for a drama. I wish them both well in the Olympics, they are both phenomenal athletes, should be a good show 🤩
You're doing your job well if you are getting these athletes to add off track entertainment for us. Also gotta add some respect to Kerr, he's adding this extra attention and I love it.
When 6-7 finalists can run a 1500m race within a couple of seconds from one each other, honestly it doesn't make sense to sell a 1vs1 rivalry. Specially when races are proven very close and tactical last times. Pretty much any finalist can step up in 1 year period
Really not a fan of the Jakob bias on this page. A few weeks ago, he posts a video about how Kurr was ducking Jakob when in reality he just wanted to tailor his season towards Paris and now over exert himself too early. Then when Jakob makes the same exact decision for the same exact reasons it’s then somehow a very smart decision, or a situation where Kurr is doing too much trash talking for not even racing. These videos completely disregard everything that Jakob has said that’s lead Kurr to this point in time such as Jakob literally not even congratulating Kurr and just calling him the next guy in line. It also doesn’t highlight the fact that Wightman and Kurr used the same exact strategy in back to back years to earn their golds over Jakob which is just further proof that he has a point and was not just doing it to trash talk. Don’t get me wrong, Kurr trash talks a lot but it’s nothing that isn’t warranted considering him being called just another guy in line after winning the gold of a lifetime for a guy. I’m fine with people having a favorite runner, but when you start to use your own ambitions and your own biases to assume wrongly of others, that’s when it becomes a problem
@@RUNISFAST was he sick in 2022 as well? You do realize he lost in the same exact fashion with almost an identical time right? Nevertheless, how are you going to discredit someone’s gold medal that is by far their greatest life achievement with such a statement like that instead of at least congratulating them or acknowledge that there are things to fix especially considering this has happened to him 2 straight times to 2 teammates? Plus it’s insanely crazy to say he just over came his illness in a matter of 2 days to go back out and run the 5k as if his illness didn’t exist whatsoever. If he keeps this same attitude up with Kiplimo and Wightman coming back from injury, he might go third in the 1500 and second in the 5k and he’ll have a whole lot of guys he’ll be calling “just the next guy” after Paris
@@RUNISFAST who is “they” lil bro. And tested him for what lol, he said he had a fever what is there to test from a fever lmao. Breaking news: Jakob tests positive for fever
Kerr is the only one trash talking Ingebrigtsen just speaking facts Jakob ain’t even dodging he is injuired and had to post pone his training camp to win 4 gold medals in Europeans and Olympics Kerr ducks most races only peaks in one race and will probably only win one medal cause he not only ducking the diamond league meetings but europeans and indoor world champs One win means nothing compared to a legacy Incredible athletes like Farah, Ingebrigtsen, El Guerrouj create. Jakob just makes everyone race faster cause he paces the diamond leagues 3000/1.500, 2 Mile, 2000 Mile Kerr can only run one quick 1500
Why you consider this even as a trash talk ? Kerr perfectly knows what he is doing. He is certainly trying to disequilibrate. He can speak from the position of power, because HE IS the World Champion at this moment and certainly in such manner he is showing true confidence, which in the end might impact on Ingebrigtsen. It is not a common situation for Jacob that he is not the one who rules the roost ? Isn't ?
How can you disagree with "bizarre and puzzling" perspectives? 1. Jakob often does lack manners 2. Let's Run is a cesspit. I think even people who use it know that.
I think too much focus is being put on these two. I don’t think either one of them will win. There are others that certainly have potential to win as well. But certainly the trash talk adds to the drama just like in WWE.
One of Kerrs main points is, that Jakob does not win unpaced races. My question is, how many races has Kerr won from the front? No doubt, he has an amazing 200 m kick, but does he not get paced until then?
Kerr knows he's not 'the better athlete', and that's why he keeps saying he is. He's trying to convince himself and everyone else, trying to get in Jakob's head because the best opponent is a distracted opponent. I hope Jakob has the good sense to avoid social media and other platforms that Kerr might use to broadcast his erroneous message from now until the Olympics.
What is great about athletics is there are no sick calls. If your quarterback goes down the game goes on. If a farmer dies on his tractor the harvest still is going to come in. We do not burn the field because farmers have heart attacks in their tractors. When race day comes we will see who wins. Past harvests do not mean the same farmer always brings the harvest in. I was walking yesterday. I thought what I love most about life is that I will die. I am on the clock. Every second counts. Time is God's finest creation. Tick...tick..tick. I love the sound but I will not hear that sound forever ❤❤❤
It's an epic Olympic year. These guys are playing poker and you won't see the culmination until the 1500 final in Paris. No way are they showing their hand until August 6th.
Josh Kerr 'I am better on one single day than Jakob.....I'm the best in the world'. Except for Jakob's 23 victories v Kerr's 9 victories. Not to mention Kerr's PB was finishing 3rd.
If an elite runner decides not to run, they’re probably not feeling 100%. You don’t become elite by learning how to run fast when you feel bad. You become elite by running the fastest in the world when you’re at 100% - stop being drama into a mathematical equation.
Can't say I like this type of thing much and it belongs in boxing, not athletics really. However, people can say what they like about Kerr's approach, if it has the effect of making Ingebrigtsen think even slightly unnecessarily about him in Paris, then he'll have done what he needed to do. Yes Jakob is a better athlete, I think most people would agree but he also knows Kerr can beat him in Championship racing and that will be somewhere in his head, however small the doubt is. I think if Nordas keeps improving , he'd be better off worrying about him potentially
As a Brit I find this a bit embarrassing. Jakob is clearly better than Kerr & Kerr should make his point on the track. This is running, not MMA or boxing.
I seriously don’t think that Jakob cares what Kerr thinks or says. In fact he probably doesn’t listen to what he has to say. Jakob is the one to beat. I will go as far as to say that Kerr needs to grow up, to be honest.
