The time has come: we have found the first traces of life in space! The James Webb Telescope has discovered a planet that is even more suitable for life than Earth! Biomarkers in the atmosphere of the exoplanet K2-18b indicate that this world is covered by a superlative ocean. But how can we now find out whether intelligent life exists there? Can James Webb and others provide clues, and if so, could we ever reach K2-18b?

Click bait: K2-18b 124 light-years away, And orbits a Red Dwarf. Which almost certainly means K2-18b is tidally locked to it's star. I don't know why We keep searching for planets that orbit Red Dwarves, pretty much every planet that has been found orbiting a Red Dwarf Star is tidally locked, and not suitable for human life. Need to find a Main sequence star like our sun with a planet in the habitable zone that is less than 10 light years away or less. Then I'll get excited. Even though Red Dwarfs live way longer lives, planets in habitable zone also receive way more solar radiation, and tidally locked is not good (extreme temperatures changes from each side of planets)
@hadyabd1984
@hadyabd1984 5 месяцев назад
I ve always wondered about that. How can a planet be habitable if it's tide lockdd
@tbrooke3016
@tbrooke3016 4 месяца назад
Howdy, red dwarfs are some of the dimmest star types we can observe which makes them better for spotting planets because we find planets by spotting when they cross in front of their host star. You can get an idea of their composition by using emission mass spectroscopy at the same time. Because of the difference in brightness between the planet and the star having them be closer in brightness helps. Imagine trying to take a picture of clouds by pointing your phone at the sun. It will overexpose the clouds and you won't get a good image. That's effectively the same issue. It's also why we find the bigger planets because they reflect the most light and block more light from their host star. Hope that helps a little. Thats what I remember from my Alevel physics a couple years back

They r telling harsh planets only , there r planets which r more habitable than earth.

Wouldn't the earth be tidally locked if it wasn't for the moon?
@jasonwb6884
@jasonwb6884 Месяц назад
@jrt818 No, Venus is closer to the Sun, has no moons and isn't tidally locked. We are pretty far away from the Sun compared to dwarf stars and the planets that orbit them.

Even if we found a completely earth like planet, it would be so far away that we would never get there. 120 light years is a very long way away.. out of our reach. So what's the point? How about we just look after what we have? And leave it at that.

It amazes me when I see wild claims of earth-like planets when they are light years away. Mars is practically next door and we have to send probes there to confirm that water existed/might have existed on the planets.

except there never was a claim on this, a year ago they said james web telescope is going to begin searching exo planets for life, and explained they way it picks up lights from 7 trillion miles away, which is close to us, there is no stars 7 trillion light years away. this was completely made up with no actual sources

I think it's confirmed water did exist cos the ice found there couple of years ago or something
@Zizzy7
@Zizzy7 8 месяцев назад
That's like comparing apples to oranges. What the James Webb Telescope sees is what is there when we observe it. On Mars they are looking for possible water that existed there millions of years ago. There is no need to send "probes" to confirm if water exists on a planet if you can see it as clear as daylight.

If we did find an earth analog, then it would probably already be full of life. That means we wouldn’t be welcome there. We’d be better off finding a fixer upper planet and terraform it. One that is in the habitable zone, but has some issues that aren’t insurmountable.
@jasonockerjsj

These type of things always throw me for a loop considering the fact it’s so many things on earth that hasn’t been fixed or truly figured out besides that you mean to tell me they can make a satellite that detects matter light years away but can’t make a complex camera that pixel doesn’t shift and a phone that doesn’t need a tower at least ever 25 miles let guess everything’s classified right🤷🏾‍♂️

If mankind is looking for a perfect copy of Earth, we will never find one. Something will always be different. It may be survivable to a point but it will always require changes to us. If humans want to leave the Earth permanently, we will need to build our new home ourselves. Even habitats we build will have differences. Yet if we need to leave our current home, for whatever reason our best chance to survive will be to build our new home ourselves. It could orbit another planet somewhere else in the galaxy. The planet we orbit may be survivable for short periods. Yet will only be to aquire needed materials to expand or repair the habitats that wr constructed.

Even if the vastness of space is teaming with life out there, wherever or whatever they are, it's God who put their existance. Since we cannot explain how matter came into existance ( C, H, O, N, P, S and many other elements) then creation remains only and only to Him. I don't care whether life exists somewhere or not. But I too still believe that life does exist somewhere else in the universe and still it's for God Himself.
