We make a Bread Pudding from Martha Lloyd's own Regency era recipe. Martha lived with the Austens for some time so we can be reasonably sure that Jane Austen would've eaten this Bread Pudding herself!

I love American Bread Pudding. I don't make it often because it has a lot of calories when using the bread, butter and cream:)) I just loved this video. I loved the cup of tea, the cat, and especially the history of Jane Austen. Wow...who would have thought of Rose Water in bread pudding. You did not disappoint us with this video. Can't wait until the next one. I hope the Jane Austin fans watch this video. They may not have known about this cookbook.

Thank you so much!! I hope every Austen fan can get this cookbook! It makes history so much more tangible when you can make or use something from the time period. I'm so glad you enjoyed watching and Roku the cat will be much pleased when I tell him he has a fan! 😄😄

Thank you so much! I have watched the 1970s versions and Pride and Prejudice is my favorite from that set. As for the books, my favorite is actually Emma! Although I love Persuasion too because the romance is so different from Austen's other books! I bought that teacup and saucer from the Biltmore in Asheville, NC. They have so many beautiful things in their gift shops! It mirrors the house wonderfully and makes you feel like you're taking home a little piece of Victorian history!

I read pride and prejudice about 53 years ago in junior high, she was a great writer. That bread pudding looks good too.

The formal Regency period lasted from 1811-1820. Started when the Prince of Wales assumed the role of the Prince Regent (later George IV). His father George III - time called the Georgian period.

There was a Lucy Worsley doc where she made an ink recipe from Jane Austen's diary. Quite remarkable.

@@ACookbookCollector there's a whole little collective of fantastic historians at the BBC. Lucy Worsley is just the tip of the iceberg!! But I got really excited about that ink demonstration.

Brit here. I need to make this myself, but just to say we have two different forms: Bread pudding, and Bread & Butter pudding. I'm guessing the 2nd is more typical in the States? When I make Bread pudding it is much darker than you have here. But as I say, I'll have to make this one and get back to you! Ps I live 1/2 hour from Jane Austen's house, so very proud of the connection.

You're so lucky to live so close! I would love to see everything connected to Jane Austen one day! I'm hoping one day I can... and when you make this, I would love to know how it turned out and if you liked it. Thanks so much for watching and I love the thought of you making this in Jane's actual stomping grounds. It's so fitting!!

Rose water is so good! It's usually used for Turkish Delight. I loved it in this bread pudding. I think you would be as pleasantly surprised as I was!! 😂😂😂
