In the mid 1930's a Huon pine logging operation commenced in the remote Jane River, western Tasmania. Access was difficult. All supplies and tools had to be packed in 30 k's on men's backs. Three gorges in the river made it almost impossible to navigate by punt, though three men did it and lived to tell the tale. The story also tells the story of hauling a punt over 600 metre high 'Punt Hill'.
