The Janisch Gambit is one of the most aggressive systems that black can play against the Ruy Lopez, closely resembling a reverse Vienna Gambit or King's Gambit as black offers a very early pawn sacrifice with 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 f5!? The Janisch Gambit (also known as the Schliemann Defense) is an extremely effective way for black to immediately fight for the initiative and put the pressure on white. The Janisch Gambit may look completely crazy and unsound at first glance, however it is been employed extensively at top levels by Grandmasters such as Polgar, Maric, Bronstein, Nimzowitsch, Kholmov, Bisguier, Vasiukov, and Shabalov. At the Super-GM level in the 21st century, Teimour Radjabov has frequently played the Janisch Gambit with great success against the world's best. The following chess video excerpt from the Empire Chess DVD ¨Secrets of the Janisch Gambit¨ features Grandmaster Leonid Kritz explaining one of white's most common responses with 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 f5 4. d3 - declining the pawn to steer play towards a more rational game.

I've seen the spelling as Jaenisch, Janisch and Janish but it appears the spelling used is the most common, at least in English.

Also, just took a look at the website - had no idea Kritz did something on the King's Indian and Perelshteyn did something on the Stonewall Dutch!! Looks like this channel is behind...

torture for the eye as Gorgonian mentioned! I have almost everything from this channel - great stuff, especially the vids from Eugene Perelshteyn. My recommendation for Leonid Kritz - look some vids of Eugene or Daniel King to learn how to teach in a way, that your pupils get it - talk with the half speed, a.s.o.

4) d3 might be white's best move, but I would like to see more analysis on 4) Nc3 where black has a very strong and overlooked move: e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 Bb5 f5 Nc3?! Nd4!! (instead of fxe4)

I can see acknowledge the line analysed is the main line at the moment, but 4ef5 could have been quite instructive. This is because as a chess player you spend 90% of my time wading through the stupid and 4ef5 is quite a stupid move. This said it is clearly an excellent video wirh some crisp analysis.NICE VIDEO!!!

The worst thing to happen to internet chess is light gray vs. dark gray dyche chess pieces.

Because the name is German I think the spelling was Original with an Umlaut ( ä ) Jänisch I think. But Later modern spelling in Germany you see more often ae for ä and ue for ü , with is funny in Blübaum ( Blossomtree ) becoming Bluebaum ( Blue tree ) if you want. What in German would be Blau(e)baum I think.

I thought this opening was going to end up on the trash heap after Radjabov's recent embarrassment in it at the hands of Caruana.
