In Antioch, Paul and Barnabas were surrounded by worried faces.
People were confused and concerned about the teachings.
Some believed that new believers had to follow old Jewish laws to be saved.
This caused a lot of questions and disagreements.

Paul and Barnabas, along with some other believers, were chosen to go to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question.
As they travelled to Jerusalem, they stopped along the way to visit believers and shared the joyful news that Gentiles have being saved.
This made everyone very happy.

In Jerusalem, Peter stood up to speak.
He shared his experience with Cornelius, a Roman Gentile who received the Holy Spirit.
Peter explained that everyone can be saved by faith in Jesus.
He said it is “through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved,” not by following old laws.

The council agreed with Peter.
They wrote a letter to the Gentile believers, explaining that they did not need to follow all the old Jewish laws.
They asked the Gentiles to avoid a few things to help them stay healthy, honour God and to show respect to their Jewish friends.
This way, their lives will bring glory to God and be a good example to others.
