I am a huge Robert E Howard / Conan fan. I thoroughly enjoyed this audio story. The only thing that could have made it better, would have been visuals that match the detail in which the story was told.
Russian Comic Book Geek brought me here, the narrator is perfect- maybe too perfect, is it an AI, or real person? Sound design is very important, and nobody does it better than the Russian Comic Book Geek.
*I've heard it said that **_Gwahlur_** is one of the worst **_Conan_** stories written by Howard. Is it longer than it has to be? Arguably. Could the Cimmerian have been a little less expository? Maybe. But, I myself don't see the reason for the hate, I like the story well enough and enjoyed this audiobook immensely.*
It’s the most confusing Conan story I’ve ever heard. With about 3 or 4 characters called “G….something unpronounceable” constantly trading places in the narration, 3 or 4 characters playing at the goddess, a mad random scramble all over the ancient city, and people constantly randomly appearing and disappearing, it’s a hot mess trying to figure out who’s doing what to whom where. It’s like an episode of Keystone Cops.
@@glenncox9128 Yes, I remember being a bit confused when reading it for the first time, having to go back and reread certain passages to make sure I was following the story correctly. Listening to an audiobook of _Gwalhur_ is definitely better than trying to read _Gwalhur._
This has to be one of the most confusing Conan stories I’ve ever heard. It didn’t help that every time I tried to listen to it, something interrupted. I ended up listening to this about a dozen times just to simply have a clue what was going on. I’m still somewhat befuddled, but at least I get the gist now.
