Join us as we explore the First Jewish-Roman War, the Kitos War, and the Bar Kokhba Revolt, uncovering the resilience, struggles, and lasting legacy of these significant events.
⚔️ First Jewish-Roman War (66-73 CE): Begin with the First Jewish-Roman War, where the ambient sounds of ancient Jerusalem and the distant echoes of rebellion set the scene. Learn about the causes of the revolt, including heavy taxation and religious tensions. Discover the key events, such as the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE, which led to the destruction of the Second Temple, and the heroic last stand at Masada in 73 CE. The whispers of resistance and the cries of battle bring this tragic conflict to life.
🏰 Kitos War (115-117 CE): Transition to the Kitos War, where the soft murmurs of unrest and the rustling of ancient documents enhance the narrative. This lesser-known conflict erupted during the reign of Emperor Trajan and spread across the Eastern Mediterranean. Explore how Jewish communities in Cyrene, Cyprus, Egypt, and Mesopotamia rose in revolt against Roman rule, leading to widespread destruction and brutal Roman reprisals. The ambient sounds of burning cities and solemn prayers underscore the devastating impact of this war.
🌌 Bar Kokhba Revolt (132-136 CE): Journey through the Bar Kokhba Revolt, where the quiet rustling of military preparations and the distant sounds of Roman legions marching set the stage. Led by Simon Bar Kokhba, this revolt aimed to establish an independent Jewish state. Delve into the strategic guerilla warfare tactics employed by the Jewish rebels and the intense battles that ensued. Learn about the ultimate defeat of the revolt and the severe consequences, including the renaming of Jerusalem to Aelia Capitolina and the further scattering of the Jewish people. The whispers of defiance and the solemn echo of lost hope bring this tragic era to life.
📜 Reflect on the broader themes of faith, resilience, and cultural survival, woven throughout these historical narratives. Fantastic story telling and sense of humour. On a side note, I can't help but draw parallels to what's happening to the Palestinians by the Israelis. The Jews rebelled because of Roman occupation impacting their culture and religion. The Jews dug tunnels and caves to resist the Romans, and how the Romans, like the Israeli army today, butchered villages with "blood up to _their horses_ nostrils".

It’s like another Russia Vs Ukraine. Cousins vs cousins. Many Palestinians are of Judean descent, so this is like a Roman revolt 3.0 for them.

This is the hardest core I ever heard of this part of the history . I want to go more in depth to learn why the Jews rebelled so fanatically.

I’m Jewish and, I’ll try and say this without offending non-Jews, I think, or maybe even KNOW it was Yahweh who lead the Jews who have faith in him.

Not a fan of the "soothing " voice style but very much appreciated the wealth of information here. Usually the story stops at the destruction of the temple. Appreciated the continuation and to learn the origin of the renaming of the area to Palestine.

49:00 using the same tactics Rome used for hundreds of years.... 1:00:00 just wow. Ask the Samnites, Etruscans, Latins concerning Roman tactics. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Rome changed the way expansionary wars were fought. When Alexander killed thousands of prisoners the world was aghast. Rome normalized genocide as a tactic. Forced relocation and enslavement had been around forever. There was never a Roman Peace for anyone but Rome. Deserved their end as did Justinian. Look him up, bankrupted and Ruined the East on an ego trip.
