I saw Joe Jackson in NYC about 20 years ago. I was with someone who knew someone and we ended up in a small bar after the show with Joe Jackson and a few others. The place wasn’t crowded; Joe was friendly, easy to approach and we had a decent conversation. He listened to whoever he was speaking with and just hung out until we left. A great guy!
If the Bar was in Soho, we might have crossed paths! I was in town for the New Music Seminar and I was in SoHo tripping on LSD and Joe Jackson walked by me and into a very small Bar. Too High to say Hi.
❤❤ I come back, too. Every movement is perfection, his sense of humor with the audience and crew, and it's kind of a sad song. His lyrics show how vulnerable he really is.
This man is in my soul. He gave me the soundtrack of my youth ....helped shape my worldview, validated my joy, pain and anger , and gave me the best live shows imaginable.
Was at a small club in Atlanta (Alex coolies) electric ball room, magical night with Joe and his band. They used the same restroom as the public. Those were special times for this musical genre
Yes, it is! Had it on Vinyl, back in the day when music, musicians and stereo equipment was the BEST sounding....! Sorry, Bluetooth sucks, I must be from the dinosaur era.... lol
Was there ANY better than Joe and the band during the New Wave/Punk era? No, not even close. Their combination of song writing, innovation, musical prowess, raw energy and live performance was completely unparalleled. No others that could do it all like Joe and the boys.
Talkinh Heads. Listen to "The Name Of The Band Is Talking Heads" if you want to hear a band with a brilliant songbook, play better on stage than in the studio.
We were all much younger then, 40 years ago, frightening! The last time I dressed up for Halloween, it was as Joe Jackson on the cover of I'm the man, I was 14. We figured we'd take one last stab at childhood.
Hetty, That's the beauty, soul & genius of Joe Jackson. His sardonic wisdom even at such a young age lends the real power to his music. I believe that he's one of the greatest song writers and arrangers of the 20th Century!
Joe Jackson's work and image still feel really fresh. I was really surprised that his songs weren't 90's. He's played a lot on the radio and could have sworn these were released in 96 or something.
It seems fresher, not as old as the 80s, because you remember it so well, as if it was really the 90s when it came out. At least we can remember to begin with haha 😂 I realize your post is a year old, but thought I would reply anyway 🤗 take care...
Lisa Mackres An absolutely brilliant song. Sung with a real hard punk attitude and soulful voice. A real classic of its day because he combined different music styles... punk, pop, new wave and soul.
Saw him on this tour and got to speak to the band in the tour bus....more of a van really. He wrote my friend, massive fan, a really nice letter. Top guy, top songs.
Graham remains my freaking hero. So solid, while basically being the main melodic instrument in the band. Check out the wild stuff he plays under the chorus, and then the out. A stinkin' genius I say.
It’s wonderful to see some appreciation for Graham Maby’s bass playing. The guy was perfect for this band and on Joe’s first couple of albums. Read an interview where he said fans ask why he played differently on Joe’s later material and on other projects. Guess they don’t realize that a melodic and punchy style doesn’t work for all genres.
He is so, so very good. He alone WAS the 80s. And still changing. Still giving. And ain't it just like planet Earth that he would be totally and completely underrated?
Absolute genius!...Joe had everything at the time. The bohemian look, delivered by a passionate new wave troubadour. His music is unique and as progressive today as it was back then, getting better and better through the years.
I just rediscovered Joe Jackson, so to speak. Man. He was the man in his own way. This performance was great. I was wondering what it would sound like with him alone on the piano.
Cat i agree with your comment ,,,squeeze were so similar with their lyrics ,, joes classics all tell a story , so did Squeeze xx i will always adore this genius of a bloke xx lol Jane x🎶🎸🎹🎺🎷🎤💽🎥🎵🎵xxx
I'm here because the song was mentioned in the Bentley Little book, "The Haunting." (Library copy) How amazing is it that we can listen to a song immediately?
Dynamite video...thanks for posting. 1980...the year I graduated High School, and everyone was listening to Joe Jackson. Look Sharp and I'm the Man hit us all like a ton of bricks. Joe is doing his angry young man bit here, and believe me, in 1980, as today, we just love(d) it.
Still procesing I've discovered this song through Thom Yorke and Johnny Grenwood (The Smile). Got me hooked by the sound and all. It's the type of melody and vibe nobody does anymore. Capsule time!
Saw Joe & his band back in the late 70s & early 80s WOW what shows, I cant think of one band today who even comes close and he is still doing it that new Duke album is amazing.....
It is amazing to me that was I was in H.S. when this came out; how many people did not realize that it is tongue in cheek. Great tune; thank you for posting.
