The Joey Dunlop Memorial and a ride along the County Antrim Coast

Welcome to another video.
This is the third instalment in my 2024 Northern Ireland road trip series.
On this ride we begin at the Co Antrim port town of Larne, before heading up to the Cairncastle Hills, where the Winterfell Castle scenes were filmed for the Game of Thrones television series.
We then head across country to the North Antrim town of Ballymoney to visit the motorcycle road racing Dunlop family memorial garden.
After paying my respects, we head back to the coast via the town of Ballycastle. After this our journey takes us past Ballypatrick Forest and Loughareema, The Vanishing Lake.
This marks the turning point of our journey, and we ride through the small coastal towns of Waterfoot, Glenarm and Carnlough as we head back to Larne.
Once back in Larne, I decided to savour a local delicacy; A Belfast pasty supper.

Really enjoying this channel. The time it takes to film and edit is definitely worthwhile. As a lifelong rally going scooterist this channel makes me want to try a bike rally. I'm sure my Lambretta will be made welcome 👍

Most definitely. You’ll most likely find a classic scooter attracting loads of interest. Probably even be asked to include it in rally bike show. Most bike rallies are open to everyone, and as you can see from my videos, they’re some of the nicest folks you’ll ever meet. Glad you’re enjoying videos 👍❤️

The carpark above Cairncastle has another film credit to add to that associated with GoT. The slopes below the carpark were a major filming location for ‘The Northman’. It was the site for the farm where the title character went as a slave to work and where he began his gruesome revenge killings. The set was built, filming occurred and without leaving a trace the fields were returned to the grazing sheep. The Viking hill fort where the film began was built at Torr Head, a place I’m sure you also know well.

@@norsecynn oh wow. Thank you for adding this information. I’d no idea that was filmed there. I’m now going to watch it. I know Torr Head well. I’m hoping to do a much longer series on the Antrim Coast at some point. Perhaps spend a few days travelling the entire route and spending longer at each of the towns 👍

As you’ll know NI has over these last few years become something of a filming location. Just recently a GoT spinoff, ‘The Hedge Knight’ was filming at Glenarm Castle, around the time of your visit actually. The interior scenes, as in the case of ‘The Northman’ filmed at the studios at ‘Titanic Quarter’ in Belfast. Torr Head Road is a ride in itself. A few years ago I took a Swedish friend along it, him on his 1200 BMW GS and me on my Ducati Scrambler Icon. He loved it, and we both enjoyed a Guinness sitting outside on a (rare) blistering hot day at McBrides in Cushendun afterwards.
